Textile Design as a Career /Schools

By the way, are there any textile designers here????

bump!

i second the last question. I'd love to read more specific information about this and unfortunately, none of the links above are working anymore.

I hope somebody will reply too, Mulletproof
I'm a Textiles student... but I haven't even started my program yet. I do e-mail my future teachers.

i am also really interested to find out more about textile design - i have a degree in communications design/illustration, but i don't really know what's out there for the pattern designs i am always coming up with?

Oh! I think that guy Estella is talking about is Le bon
...but I haven't seen him here anymore :ermm:

I study textile design in the University of Buenos Aires- Argentina.. the next year I will finish the degree if you want ask me anything about the career ...

I'm new to TFS and therefore late in finding this thread, but in case anyone's still interested, I studied textile design at FIT and worked as a textile designer in NYC's fashion district. I'd be glad to tell you about their program and answer any questions I can.

thanks

Print Designer

i don't know if there's another thread like this, but i can't seem to find one. but if there is, feel free to delete this one.

anyways, i've finally figured out what i want to do with my life: print designer. i've been working with photoshop, illustrator and all those other graphic programs since forever. but i would like to know, what colleges in new york offer graphic design and such? i know parsons do, but it's probably very hard to get in there.

thanks in advance!

So you just mean graphic design as in print for publications?
Not print for fashion..such as designing prints for clothing?

yes, i mean designing prints for clothing =) sorry if i wasn't clear enough.

i've heard not-so-good stuff about FIT, so i'm trying to stay away from that school lol. but if that's my only option i guess i have to take it. and i'm going to need a portfolio? i don't study graphic design or anything.

Textile Designers

Are there any here? I'm fresh out of school and trying to find a reputable studio to freelance with. Any suggestions or stories?

wow you're the first to post about this, paperDonna :P

i've seen a few members doing textiles in this thread on schooling:
http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f90/textile-design-schools-3005.html?highlight=textile
they were a little hard to get a hold of
also , theFashionspot member DJCNOR has experience working in the textile industry in New York

what school are you coming from ? and country?
don't they offer work placements? ^_^

there is this event that promotes graduates of textile design, but it's in London
texprint UK - promoting textile design talent

Centre des textiles contemporains - Canada

in English: the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles

It's a cégep (like first-years college) to study textiles:
design for weaves using a hand and electronic loom, knits, dyes, embellishments and studying textile technology, the use of CAD programs, history, trends forecast, sewing and business-related topics

website: http://www.textiles-mtl.com/

Does anyone here go there?
Or know someone who has?
I'd like to speak with someone who is taking or has taken the courses there
