The 100 Movie Challenge (2012)

^ YoninahAliza, you should also try to find some films by Satyajit Ray too, for a different perspective in Indian cinema. They're not Bollywood or Hindi (they're Bengali) and a bit older, but some of his stuff is really great. I'd start with the Apu Trilogy, I don't think that they'd be that difficult to find. I think you'd like them though.

Why didn't you warn me that Rang De Basanti was such an emotional film? Oh my goodness... I literally was sobbing during the last 1/2 hour of the film and for a while afterwards too. It was an amazing, amazing film. Wow! The acting was so spot on, the storyline was interesting and it definitely made me think. And to me, those are the best types of films. Blueorchid, I'll add his films to my ever growing list! Thanks :flower:

I really liked both My Name is Khan and Veer-Zaara. Both are sad yet uplifting stories! And can I just say, how charismatic is Shahrukh Khan? Seriously, I can totally understand why he's so well-liked, however he (and his characters) set unrealistic expectations for love!
Also, guys... I made it to 50! Half-way there (I really thought I wouldn't even make it this far in the challenge)!

I've watched 25 foreign language films this year!

Is anybody on hulu? Can you point out the titles that are Bollywood films? (I know they have them, cuz they have UK, Latino, and Asian as well as Bollywood films, but they mix them altogether.)

082. Protektor (2009 -foreign/czech) - beautiful movie.. Beautiful, yet tragic:cry:
083. The Architect (2006)
084. Rachel Getting Married (2009)
085. Black Swan (2010)
086. Remember Me (2010) - Robert's acting here is much better here, not great but good^_^.. It was a decent script, solid story but I felt the ending was lazy, if you know what I mean:innocent:.. Like they couldn't figure out how to end it so they just picked a random plot twist:rolleyes:

087. Tower Heist (2012) - I usually don't like/get Eddie Murphy & Ben Stiler but this was surprisingly funny:lol:
088. Last Night (2011) - so beautiful:crush:
089. Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene (2011)
090. Birdsong (2012) - Eddie Redmayne is soooo talented:crush: ugh, I'm in love

  1. From what I can tell hulu categorizes Bollywood/Indian films as musicals. Which to be honest, is a little bit insulting, not every Indian film is a Bollywood film. I don't understand why it doesn't have it's own category like the other foreign films. But I did a quick search and if you type in Hindi, Indian, or Bollywood into the search box it will bring up these film titles. ^_^

23: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)
24: The Seven Year Itch (1955) - the second Marilyn Monroe film I took in... the clothes she wore were lovely, but the story was really weak. She played the female lead but it felt like more of a supporting role to me, and the main character (a man) wasn't really working for me. I don't know if voice over would have helped but he spoke all of his thoughts out loud and I found that to be really awkward. Plus the whole story/plot just didn't work for me at all.
25: Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (2010) - This was a nice behind-the-scenes look at Joan Rivers' life. We all see her as the brash, provocative red carpet celeb critic but she's such an incredibly hard worker and this film really humanized her. She's incredibly resilient, so smart, and in the end, I think she's actually really likable. You get a peak at her vulnerability and can't begrudge her any of her successes.
26: Young Adult (2011) - I wasn't really a fan of this. I don't think I realized how dark the humor was beforehand so I was caught slightly off guard. I watched it with two other people and none of us connected to or liked it.

Cemetery Junction was surprisingly good. A great cast (including Ralph Fiennes, Felicity Jones, Ricky Gervais, Christian Cooke, & Emily Watson) and a funny/sweet coming of age story of sorts set in the 70's.
