The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #7

Good to know, about the scarf. I'll have something to do when waiting in line..

And I always have a lint roller at hand as well, my cat used to shed so much. In both white and black, so I would always see at least one color of cat hair on my clothes. :meow:

Oh, tell me about it! My dogs have black, white, grey, red, and all shades of brown, from tan to mahogany (one sable and white, two blue merle). My friend and I were babysitting her granddaughter recently, along with the family dog, a black poodle. I think a black poodle might be quite ideal  My dogs' hair is straight, and I have actually gotten them stuck in the soles of my feet before, which feels like a splinter. Who knew that was even possible ...

eizhowa, just more of the same. I believe it leaves some of the adhesive behind, so that next time it's easier for the lint, dog hair, and whatnot to cling.

Believe it or not, I actually went and got something today
It's the burgundy silk skirt from Massimo Dutti that I mentioned before but had thought I didn't need. Recently though, I'd been running out of dinner outfits, and realized I actually do need it badly. It's a good compromise for the dress I've never been able to find, and a step away from black.

I love how it falls and looks with my cream cami (or silk tee or cream cashmere sweater), black nubuck Robert Clergerie lace-up cut-out heels and big hammered brass earrings I got in Rome, and my shimmery bronzey clutch. I would like a nice roomy cashmere cardigan as well as strappy heels to go with it too...

Cons:
--It's dry-clean only, and silk-chiffon, which I'm scared will stain easily...
--It's an awkward length I'm not used to wearing, and absolutely needs heels...but it does look nice in heels.

Pros:
--goes with all of my favorite tops...antique embroidered peasant blouse, vintage silk chiffon top, cream cashmere sweaters and cardis, silk tees, black angora sweater, Vivienne Westwood velvet jacket, vintage burgundy leather jacket...and all my boots, even the teal ones. It's also the same color as my usual lips and nails.
--It is a *rare* item of clothing I find being sold nowadays that actually fits my style and aesthetics---this was the deciding factor, really.
--It fits the bill perfectly for the occasions I most need, with discreet slits to the knee that make it a little dressy

**What had tripped me up is that I'd never dreamed that YET ANOTHER skirt was what my wardrobe was missing...I already have a gazillion skirts, and not even enough tops...but a shift in perspective and an open mind helps find solutions...

Melisande: Looks like a very versatile skirt color-wise. It would look good with black too:wink: If it gets stained, maybe you could try a kind of pollock-style rescue?

Congrats on the purchase, Melisande. I would think the chiffon would do well, since there's really nothing there for a stain to soak into??

I love that skirt length, and have worn it all my life, including with flats  It's tres chic now, so don't let anyone but us hear you calling it awkward  Now would be a great time for me to stock up on skirts, but unfortunately due to the casual dress code at work, I'm wearing them less than ever, and so don't really need any more :(

I would actually have preferred to be able to buy the blouse version of my dress, since I think it would be more versatile ... but, it's very nice to find a dress I really love, and I am not complaining!

I think your skirt would be pretty with a black bustier. Or even some shade of pale pink or peach ...

Ah eizhowa now that is an idea that hadn't crossed my mind  Good to have that option!

:heart: Great minds. I was eyeing a pale peach Chloe cami. But I was also thinking a bustier would be nice! It would be good for cocktails, etc.

**It's not an awkward length per se, I love it on others with flats, but it's an awkward length on me~~~~ ...makes me look strange. It's okay, it's perfect w/ even a bit of heel.

Tata I think the dress version is great. Dresses have immense value of their own that goes beyond versatility! They're just better for some occasions, especially when you have to be dressy and still be able to move around...or dance...or chase children...or present yourself in front of others...or eat a lot

fashionista-ta Love that your dress pleases you that much! And the cut of the sweater is very chic. Great buys.

My two sweaters from Zara (pink and black, 100% synthetic) are pilling, but I let them. I know there is some electrical device that cuts them (in the end there is nothing left of the sweater?), but I won't bother. When they once started pilling it just continues and in this case it doesn't bother me that much.
You can also pick them off one by one in slow moments
Not in a million years! :P

Melisande The review of your skirt is lovely to read, the debating. Must give you a great feeling deciding to buy it and be happy with it.

I returned my sale items, the short sleeved shirt was really too short, it barely covered my belly button. The cashmere was not of a great quality. I also returned the quilted jacket, not special enough considering the price. I could find almost the same jacket for more than half the price, so then you'll know what to do. :innocent:
But I succeeded to find some very nice matte black flats, yay! ^_^

Thanks, Nymphaea  And congrats on the shoes!

I actually do that myself, if I'm sitting somewhere waiting and start to notice any pills, I'll remove a few one at a time  Now you know all my secrets ...

@Eva: ouch, that sounds expensive! I am aiming for something less expensive ATM. Good to know about the trenchcoat though. I know you are probably right and I know there is a difference between the quality of an H&M trenchcoat and a Burberry one, I just have a hard time getting how it affects the coats ability to be cleaned. Silly, I know.

@Eizhowa: I am not that satisfied with my usual brand anymore though. I have heard that the ones from Rema1000 is better (same price, same denier), so I will have to try those. There are no Rema in my town, so I will have to buy them when I am in copenhagen though, and tha is that very practical.

@Caramel: I know, right? I really know what a hassle it is with jeans. My newest pair is from Black Swan and so far I am liking them, but I havent tried washing them yet, and my main problem is that black jeans fade sooo fast.

@Nymphaea: Thanks for your input. I think kokoon coats look god on others - but not on me!

I feel a new thread coming up: wardrobe confessions.. :shifty:

You should start it

Melisande, it's interesting what you say about the advantages of a dress. Some of those benefits I feel I have with separates, but I will have to observe. I know that for weddings, people look askance if you wear separates ... let them look, has been my attitude  But now I have one to wear!

nordstrom

Received the pink sweater today ... it's a beautiful color just as pictured that looks good on me, the sleeves & neckline are beautiful, the knitting extremely well done, and the wool is very fine, nicer than the knit pieces I tried on several years ago. However, the feature Jinadaze was pointing out, how it hugs the body at the bottom, is not really flattering on me, as my waist is not my best feature. So ... it goes back. This also means that unless I have good reason to believe the cut is different, the knits aren't really going to work for me ... so I can forget about the black sweater I was eyeing  It's still perhaps possible a T in the same size could work. But not I think the sweaters. I think they are all made on the same lines.

However, Lucky Rewards had 10% cash back today only for Nordstrom, plus I still had a triple points day (points get me gift certificates I can use toward any other purchase). So I went ahead and ordered the bag today, as I don't think I'm going to get a better offer than this. The bag doesn't have to fit, so I'm hoping it will be good

^That's too bad, I really liked that sweater.
I can't believe the bag wouldn't be that good in real life, I hope even better and it's a great pro that the bag doesn't have to fit indeed.

And I've got my new Replay newswenfani jeans (relaxed fit) today, almost exactly the same as my old one, so I'm happy.

^ Yay! It's so nice to be able to replace an old favorite. Still looking for a new go-to for denim ...

I did too. I didn't think I was going to like the neckline, but I loved it on.

I've also had a similar Happy in the past, so that bodes well  The handles were different ... doubled was a handbag, and then you could adjust to be a shoulder bag with a long chain. Should be good though ... the leathers are always beautiful.

Ta-ta I agree, let them look askance. :innocent:
That's too bad about the sweater...but congratulations, I've always LOVED those Lanvin bags. Didn't you say something about part of the handle falling off once? Not that it would stop me...they're so beautiful...

^ Thanks

With my first one, there was an issue with the hardware ... the twist closure hardware kept coming unscrewed and falling off. Barney's had multiple customers with the problem, and I was one of them. They replaced--I forget whether it was just the hardware, I think so, or the whole bag--but it happened again, and I was afraid I would be stuck with a bag that was broken & couldn't be fixed. They encouraged me to return it & I did. However, my SA there told me a few years ago that the problem had been corrected.

Congratulations on the bag ta-ta! When I see that bag I always think of you.

Betina, I will check the brand out. I have a Rema1000 locally:smile:

On a different note - I just realized that the "high" I used to get from dressing up in glamorous dresses (the "Oh-ah" and feeling fabulous-feeling), I now get from corduroy:blink: Preferably brown or washed out black corduroy. Just thinking about corduroy makes me grin. Could it be true love... * Plans to write an ode to corduroy *

Otherwise... I am still content with my current wardrobe (what is this maddness?).

^ Thanks :flower:

I remember a wide-wale corduroy wrap skirt I had when I was a teenager quite fondly. It was a really nice skirt ... a secondhand buy.

Here's to contentment!

Just wanted to make a few notes about my shopping list ... looking at my wishlist on Pinterest, I had made some helpful notes during the cold weather last year ... I mentioned that I could really use

  • Another long-sleeved black sweater. A basic item.
  • I also noted that I intended to get a nice pair of black ballets. Also a basic item, and a bit tricky. I like the cap-toe ones, and I would like some that are interesting, different textures or whatnot. These are difficult to come by as everyone wants them. Have to grab them when they first ship.
  • When I ordered the pink sweater, I sold myself on the idea of another statement sweater, and I would still like one. I've pinned a few things on my wishlist board, but I don't think I've found the one yet.
  • I could use another top that I can wear to work during warm weather, which is ongoing (and I also layer most of these during colder or transitional weather). This can wait till spring, but if I happen to find something that's on sale now ...
  • I want another pair of denim trousers if possible ... a basic item.
  • Failing that, maybe I can find some pants that are different from what I already have. Lanvin currently has a number of different pants in athletic cuts. I don't want to pay full price, but maybe later when they're discounted, as I assume some of them will be ...
For this fall, I've already bought ...

  1. Teal silk dress, taking the place of the silk blouse I had in mind. Statement item.
  2. Black bag. Basic item.

I simply cannot keep up with this thread, so here is what I can remember:

Pilling: lint shaver! I have one from OBH but they can also be bought on ebay - it is a lifesaver.

@Tata: too bad about the sweater, but great that you were able to get the bag. It looks so nice.

--------

I am so disappointed with Nordstrom right now. After what Caramel wrote I had expected to recieve my purchase quite fast, but I did not get it until today, and even though the package stated my name, I did not get my necklace, but a pair of earrings, belonging to another customer :(

^That's too bad, very annoying! Hope you can resolve this easily with Nordstrom.
