The 50 Book Challenge (2012)

1. On Cats by Doris Lessing
2. Mastiff by Tamora Pierce
3. Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman (currently reading)

For those who have read The Virgin Suicides, what did you think about it? I don't know if I should read it or not (I'm a big fan of the film).
It's been some time since I last read it but I remember loving it! As far as I can recall it's a little different than the film but every bit as good.

Yeah, I agree. I started Bave New World a few time but always stopped after a few chapters. But this time I went further and I love it for the moment!

You should read it, the movie is great and it does justice to the book. I saw the movie first and then read the book and I wasn't dissapointed.

1. The hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
2. The adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

I started year with Sherlock and I'm not disapointment. Espesially short stories were really great.

wow, this thread is awesome!
i'm sooo in!

so far this year, i've read 4 books:
1. Frostbite (Vampire Academy Series) - Richelle Mead
2. Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy Series) - Richelle Mead
3. Blood Promise (Vampire Academy Series) - Richelle Mead
4. Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy Series) - Richelle Mead

and i'm halfway through my 5th book, which is Last Sacrifice, also from Vamp Academy series.. it's the last book in the series. hope i can finish it soon..
i'm going to set my goal for 50 books.. the only problem with that for me is buying those books.. haha. english books aren't cheap in my country.. although the price is almost the same as in US, but the living cost here are much cheaper.. so yeah.... but since i really want to reach my goal, i'm gonna save money from now for books :D

I've read just two books this year, but it's ok considering that I don't have time to sleep with all this craziness here. I usually read more in summer.

1. The Magus by John Fowles
2. Atonement by Ian McEwan

I'm starting late. Only yesterday opened my first book of the year :ermm:

01: No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
02: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
03: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

1. Secret Vampire #1 in The Night World series by L.J. Smith

4. Rødby - Puttgarden by Helle Helle

I'm a bit late, but count me in. I'll try to reach 30.

1.- Almost Transparent Blue, by Ryu Murakami (still reading it)

1. Secret Vampire #1 in The Night World series by L.J. Smith
2. Timbuktu by Paul Auster
3. The Valkyries by Paulo Coelho
4. Rødby - Puttgarden by Helle Helle
5. The Queen and I by Sue Townsend

Why is everyone so hard on themselves  It's January 17! Jesus! I've been on vacation and I still haven't finished one book!

lol karma ^ Let me know how it is.

1. Apathy -- and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan. This is a 5/5 book by my standards. But it won't be for everyone. I'm always on the lookout for funny books and this is literally one of the funniest, if not the funniest book I've ever read. I actually laugh out loud reading it. But keep in mind that the humour is very sarcastic, sometimes quite dark, quite politically incorrect. It's very over the top, deadpan, exaggerated humour. I'd describe it as something like The Big Lebowski put in a very wrong blender  This is a book I've re-read somewhere between 5 and 10 times. It's a short easy read.

01 > Das böse Mädchen (engl: The Bad Girl, orig: Travesuras de la Niña Mala) < Mario Vargas Llosa
02 > The Crossing < Cormac McCarthy

i'm also still on my first book, between work and uni i can only read on my train-rides and even then i'm too tired sometimes:ninja:

does anyone know a veeery easy book in Spanish? i just learned the first past tense, so it could be written in present and preteritum...is there some nice children's book maybe? i looked at the Spanish versions of the Potter books, but they are still way too hard, i need simple, easy Spanish and short sentences.

01: No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
02: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
03: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

I like all these books. How did you like A Though Splendid Suns, I prefer Kite Runner. Suns, was really sad for me.

I too preferred the Kite Runner, but ATSS was absolutely beautiful. It solidified my love for Khaled Hosseini's writing... I can't wait to read whatever he releases in the future ^_^
