I've started with The Pilars of the Earth by Ken Follet. I didn't knew it was that enormous when I bought it, but it's about 950 pages  So, I'll be reading that one for a while.

i'm also still on my first book, between work and uni i can only read on my train-rides and even then i'm too tired sometimes:ninja:

does anyone know a veeery easy book in Spanish? i just learned the first past tense, so it could be written in present and preteritum...is there some nice children's book maybe? i looked at the Spanish versions of the Potter books, but they are still way too hard, i need simple, easy Spanish and short sentences.

Hey i can recommend you book i used to read when i was in the first years in primary school. They're supposed to be good when learning to read, but without being like the ones for babies.

I am about 3 chapters into To Kill a Mockingbird but I can't get into it at all :( please tell me it gets better. I know its supposed to be one of the best books ever written but i'm finding it 'blah' at the moment :innocent:.

i loved to kill a mockingbird... it's probably one of my favorite books.
i think it may resonate more with americans (not sure if you're american) because of our cultural history and things that our society still struggles with to a certain extent today

i just remember reading the last page and thinking "what a beautiful book"

1.- Almost Transparent Blue, by Ryu Murakami
2.- Me convertiré en momia, by Masahiko Shimada
3.- Cien Años de Soledad, by Gabriel García Márquez (what a great book. i don't want it to end!)

Joining in too!! I read almost exclusively on my iPhone now, using the iBooks and Kindle apps, depending on where I bought the ebook.

So far this year:

01. The False Friend - Myla Goldberg - pretty good drama novel, the twist at the end made the book for me. It's a bit slow in places, but since the end was pretty vital, I'm glad I pushed through and finished it.
02. Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey -> LOVED it. It contains some adult content, for the kids amongst us, but I didn't mind it one bit - it wasn't gratuitous, but instead enhanced the story. An amazing fantasy novel, that had me captivated from the first page.
03. Kushiel's Chosen by Jacqueline Carey -> about 90% through! Loved the first book in the Kushiel series so much I had to start book 2 right away. :P

This is such a good idea, I really need to read more!

1. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath..I thought it would be quite pretentiously written but I actually found it very easy to relate to and it was really honestly written.
2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky..I enjoyed it, I thought it was refreshing to see a portrayal of a teenage life through a boys eyes. My mum couldn't finish it, found it too 'teen'.

Currently reading Lord Of The Flies, by William Golding.

1. The Fellowship of the Ring- J. R. R. Tolkien
2. On Canaan's Side- Sebastian Barry- I really loved this book!

I haven't decided what I am to read next!

09. Religion for Atheists by Alain de Botton

So, just finished Tete-a-tete, and it was a very engaging read,
I'm glad I read it because I have always heard of the couple
Sartre and Beauvoir, and I used to picture them as this
beautiful and idealized love story, and from this book's perspective
they are obviously just as flawed as everyone else. I feel right now, like it's
hard for me to believe in fairytales, it makes me frustrated and envious,
and this portrait just humanized this story without making it less
beautiful. :bounce:

I've read the first 100 pages of Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth and it's so good! I mean it's enourmous and I don't know how much time it will take me to read it but I'm delighted!

^it's one of my fave books ever, it's beautiful and although it's so huge, you'll want more once you've finished it. i didn't like the first 300 pages or so too much, but then i couldn't put it down:heart:
