I too preferred the Kite Runner, but ATSS was absolutely beautiful. It solidified my love for Khaled Hosseini's writing... I can't wait to read whatever he releases in the future

I enjoyed Suns, although it was very emotional for me. Same here, although I don't keep up with his work.

I enjoyed reading "Never Let Me Go", read it in 3 days. I watched the movie first and didn't fully understand why and how things were happening while the book explains everything perfectly. I liked it, I wouldn't say it was a great book but a "very good" one; engaging.

"Her Fearful Symmetry" was interesting although going through first 50-80 pages was a nightmare, I couldn't get into it at all. Once "the actual story" started it went rather smoothly. Not as good as "The Time Traveler's Wife" but ok although I'm not sure if I'd recommend it [unless you like weird ghost stories that are not scary and stories about twin sisters].

How is the Vampire Diaries? I'm in love with the show but don't know if I should read the books.

The books are very different from the show. I tried reading the first 2 books when the show was on hiatus but I just got confused because I kept thinking about the show's plot lines while I was reading the books so I gave up . This is just a personal opinion.

I love this! I was a little late when I found this thread last year, but I'm definitely up for the challenge this year!

So far I've read:
1) The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
2) A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
And now I'm reading The Wave by Susan Casey. It's very scientific (rogue waves, giants, tsunamis, etc.) but extremely interesting.

As funkystar said it is very different from the series, so when I read it I didn't think of the show's plot at all...But I think they are really good books. I like the plot, it always makes me want to read the next book!

i feel like reading a really short, quick read now, haven't decided what i'll read next though, yet

I am about 3 chapters into To Kill a Mockingbird but I can't get into it at all please tell me it gets better. I know its supposed to be one of the best books ever written but i'm finding it 'blah' at the moment .

^i liked it but that's it. i still don't get the hype, the story is great, but i think the writing wasn't all that great. but i've learned that i don't like American classics in general

btw, forgot to review "Under the banner of heaven"
i absolutely LOVED it. the book is about a murder commited by two mormon fundamentalist brothers who killed a mother and her baby "on orders from God". Krakauer has a very engaging writing-style, sometimes the language was a bit difficult (at least for me as i'm not a native speaker) but i still couldn't put it down. i learned a lot about mormonism and realised that most of the things i thought i knew about it is actually only practiced in the fundamentalist section of the church. Krakauer stays pretty neutral and just states the facts and never makes fun of the doctrines (although Joseph Smith's story and what mormons believe in is quite crazy).
