The Acne Thread

oh okay thanks! I guess it wouldn't cost as much if you just went to your regular doctor, like for a appt.

Yes, if your skin isn't very bad, a regular doctor is able to prescribe them for you - so I'd check with one of those first :flower:

Hello everyone I'm new to the boards...

I have normal-oily skin (basically just my t-zone, but to be even more specific...my chin area) and have started to break out more. I use to have many spots as a child and was prescribed ERY. It worked for awhile, but I became immune and it stopped working. My derm. also recommended me take vitamin B-2 (I think it was B-2, :x) one week before it was that time of the month to prevent breakouts. Ultimately, the best thing that worked for me was birth control. It cleared up my skin and made my hair much healthier. I have since stopped taking birth control for about 2 years now and have noticed dramatic changes in my skin.

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried cosmetic skin treatments for acne/zits. I was reading about a procedure called Photodynamic Acne Treatment and also laser treatments. Has anyone ever tried either?

Here is a link about PDT: http://www.totaldermatology.com/pages/photoacne.html

^ no, because it's VERY expensive! and you have to do it often like every 6 months or so....

well i have a few scars from acne, not many but *I* notice them.
anyways, my skin doctor suggests laser skin resurfacing with erebrium laser (or however you spell it)...
has anyone had this treatment before or know much about it? some info would be wonderful...

ALSO, i think i have used minocycline before, in conjunction with a topical gel, it took some time - like a couple of months for everything to clear up, but afterwards my skin was great!.... so yeah, keep at it Jasmine<3, i'm sure u will see results

raw pure unprocessed shea butter:flower:

but how do you use it? just putting some on your face? isn't it all sticky and stuff? (perhaps i'm using it in the wrong way.... )

Thanks monsieur! im waiting =) haha . im still in teenage puberty T_T HOW HORRIBLEEEE. so it's taking a heck of a long time. i sure hope so!
does anyone know a good de scarring product? i've heard of vitamin E. but it seems soo oily.. so im afraid it will just inflame my acne and cause more damage.

Skin Care

Regardless of your age or the season, here are some steps to keep your skin as healthy as possible:
  • Healthy beautiful skin requires water. Good hydration maintains firm, smooth skin. Try to drink a minimum of 64-ounces of water each day.
  • Eliminate tobacco, which is known to age skin prematurely.
  • Nourish your skin from the inside by eating a balanced whole foods diet.
  • Recent research suggests processed foods and refined sugars promote changes that can lead to blemishes.1 Make fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables a key part of your diet for beautiful skin.
  • Foods and nutrients that are exceptionally nourishing for the skin include: essential fatty acids from cold water fish and flax seed oil; beta carotene and vitamin A found in orange vegetables, egg yolks, and liver; berries, in particular blueberries; and green and white tea.
  • Reduce your stress levels. Excessive stress can lead to break outs, according to a recent study.2 Relaxed, calm muscles are also less likely to wrinkle.
  • Reduce your consumption of alcohol, replacing it with pure water.
  • Be consistent with your exercise program, as exercise promotes healthy skin.
  • Wear a sunscreen that contains an SPF of at least 15 or higher on your face and exposed parts of your body and scalp, especially during the hot summer months.

I like that you use natural products. Getting back to nature is the best way to go, I think :D ... I love Jurlique products especially, they work a treat and smell awesome. Also, 100% tea tree oil is good at zapping the zits. By the way, your avatar is GORGEOUS!! Wish I had HER skin!!

^ Yes, I wish I could have used all natural products when I had bad acne... I tried, but it just didn't work. Mine was too stubborn. :(

I like the idea of going back to basics

Thank aquarius_21 I'd much rather use natural products then something made out of who knows what?! I mean I hate all those weird ingredient names on the backs of bottles who knows what they really mean? Yes Gemma has gorgeous skin that's my goal:wink: :P

Apple cider vinegar?! Really?! How cool. I've got to try this. Not to sound dumb, but do you really just use the stuff from the grocery store?
