More Tips

1) HUMIDIFIER/SAUNA
although they are both very different (humidifier hydrate, where as most saunas dehydrate), ill put them under the same title anyway. During the winter, when its already cold out AND you most likely have a heating system going on.. you and your skin get both very dehydrated and dry, which the humidifier is wonderful at counteracting!!! they help to hydrate you and your skin, as well as help you to perform respiratory clarity:smile: the sauna is wonderful for detoxing- especially during the winter when you dont sweat much! saunas definately help w/ the skin, as they open your pores and detox you (like i said). make sure to drink lots of water afterward though! my friends and i take saunas and i swear it helps our skin GLOW.

2)DONT PICK
unless you want damaged skin, clogged pores and a series of following pimples and blackheads...dont pick at your bloalckheads or pimples or whatever! if you want your pimples to go away sooner, use apple cider vinegar toner before you go to sleep, and/or find a nice 'zip zapper' which helps to dry it out. seriously, picking at your skin damages your skin, thus defeating the purpose:P

3) dont ever wash your face w/ an acne cleanser and not apply toner or lotion after.. this destroys your skins natural ph balance. a little oil and/or moisturizer (especially if they are natural), help to balance out your skin. irritated skin promotes acne, so help to replenish your skin.. even if you are afraid of oil or lotion!

4) stress can be a HUGE factor to acne. the mind and the body are SO interrelated.. even thinking about your skin 24/7 will send negfative signals to your body. ofcourse, its really hard to just not stress... but studies have shown that if you dedicate atleast 10 minutes a day to medidating- just by resting and trying to calm your body and mind... stress levels can go drastically down. try to find your anti-stress activity that you can work in a couple of times a week

well i have more tips on how to achieve glowing skin (which i can post if you want)... but i basically stated the basics on how to beat acne! haha god i sound like some dermatologist... EXCEPT that i don't encourage antibiotics:wink:

the best advice that i can give you is either microdermabrasion (there are home microdermabrasions such as epidermx, which most everyone has great results from, even though i didnt), or getting them extracted! certain toners help to alleviate them a bit... but yeah.. those are my best solutions. Also, a steam mask... perhaps the one by dr. hauschka... will help a bit! don't try those pore strips though... they just strip the protection from your skin... making it more vulnerable to bacteria, dirt and such  :flower:

thank you! :flower: I'll try it!
I have this one blackhead that is dirving me nuts

Has anyone tried Differin?

My doctor prescribed it for me and I couldn't commit to using it long term because it was making my skin worse (even though I guess it makes your skin worse before it gets better). I need some encouragement from someone who had good luck with it.

Hey! I've just been put on Defferin as well...and I've actually seen quite a bit of improvement to my skin, so I'd say hang in there. It usually takes quite a while before it takes effect...and everyone reacts differently to it. Wish you best of luck!!! :flower:  :woot:

keep the posts coming amorousluna! sounds like you've got a wealth of knowledge, thanks for sharing

thankies amorousluna! yeah keep them coming. i absolutely agree with the stress thing. once the exams came, i had volcanoes on my forehead, nose and chin.

Exercise really does help clear the skin. Im talking about the real sweaty exercise too, not just a little walk, I mean power walking for hours.

Thanks for the encouragement. Last night before I went to bed, I made a promise to myself to try and stick it out with the Differin. It just gets so depressing when I look in the mirror (especially at work where we have florescent lights) and see red spots. I'm going to make a go of it!

amorousluna I'm a little confused because you say that nuts aggravate the skin

(some) FOODS WHICH AGGRAVATE THE SKIN:
nuts (esp. almonds and peanuts), wheat and gluten, dairy (depends on your body type), sugar and other artificial sweeteners aside from natural ones like stevia, caffeine (mainly coffee), oils (olive oil and flax oils are harmless, unless you have eczema), and ofcourse... various food allergies.

but I've read everywhere that nuts are excellent for your skin but only in moderation. Question: I eat "food for life" bread every once in a while (like ezekial, genesis bread, etc..) are they okay or not?

Also has anyone tried this? >>>

I just started using it this week (it's from Whole Foods)

Amorousluna, I'd love to hear all the things you know about getting clear & glowing skin, so just post away.

Is it enough if I exercise 4 to 5 times a week for an hour or two? That's my usual regime. I also walk to most of the places where I have to go.

Amorousluna - my skin is really dry at the moment (most likely from the cold weather like you say) but I can't afford a humidifier, would a bowl of water next to my bed be as good?

I"m using it now and have been since August. I was also told things may get worse before they get better, but my dermotologist enouraged me to continue. I think the Differin and antibiotics together are a dream come true. Keep on keepin on!!

it depends.. are you keeping a bowl of water next to your bed because of the heater, or just cause its winter??? if you are referring to a heater.. then yes, a bowl of water next to your bed DEFINATELY helps.. i used to do that before i got a humidifier. its not as great, but it helps

yeah! thats plenty!!! good job:flower: if it weren't for school i'd probably be incorporating more exercise into my schedule..

ill def post a few more tip for GLOWING skin.. but its harder for me to just tip away on how to maintain CLEAR skin, when i dont know all your individual situations-_- i can definately assume that most of your situations are caused internally though.. something many people often overlook. i urge you all not to go on antibiotics; my mother ended up w/ so many health problems from those dreadful things. i had two friends, both in their twenties... and both had acne. one girl had moderate acne, and after i suggested she try a couple of weeks of no wheat and sugar- her skin cleared up like 90%! the other girl.. who had pretty severe acne (considering her age)- cut out dairy and wheat.. and her skin improved 70%! ofcourse, cutting out these things is soo hard (i often wonder how i managed.. although im perfectly fine w/o them now).. but every little step might help.. as would incorporating nutritious, pure and detoxifying things into your daily diet.. such as fruits and green vegetables (salad really doesn't do much, btw).

anyway, aside from suggesting a weekly NATURAL/ORGANIC scrub or home microdermabrasion (checkout epidermx at greatnewskin.com, or never a dull moment by origins... AND check out these great websites: HEALTHBOARDS.COM, which has a huge board dedicated to acne, you can find nearly everything there... and MAKEUPALLEY.COM, which has tons of great product reviews).... i need all your specific questions, in order to be of better help:wink:

nuts are really really hard to digest.. and im mean really. true, they have lots of nice vitamins, but those vitamins can be found in other sources. i dont know where you've heard that they are actually GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN... perhaps good for you? i dont know.. but if you do a bit of research... you may find that they aren't great for your skin, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE ECZEMA (nuts are one of the most aggravating foods for people w/ eczema). BUT i used to sort of think the same thing, until i found out a bit more about nuts. They are definatley ok in moderation.. and they are quite nourishing, when in moderation:wink:
i don't know what's in genesis bread... but i do know about ezekial, and i can assure you that it is wonderful! some of them do contain the wheat sprouts, but they are still very healthy and pure.. they're very nourishing, so i'd urge you to continue including them in your daily diet:wink:

thanks for the info^^^_^ :flower:

I'm just using the dermaklear, witch hazel and alpha hydroxy now because I'm trying to make sure I don't over do it on the products. I know plenty of people who've gone crazy using different stuff left and right and their skin isn't in the best shape now:doh: So we'll see I'm gonna try to just not stress about it as much as I can:rolleyes:

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm going to stick with Differin and see what happens. I'll keep you posted!

I was on an oral antibiotic. I think it was Dynacin. I stopped taking it but I think I'm going to start that again as well.
