Edwina McCann's final issue at Harper's Bazaar will be the August Issue. ACP has begun the search for McCann's successor and it will be announced in due course. The transition period will be managed by ACP Magazines Asia Chief Executive Officer, Julie Sherborn, who has extensive experience editing and managing fashion and lifestyle publications in the region's booming economies.

Not sure if it's for this thread, but I got to thinking are the celebrities being payed for doing the magazine covers?
I know models do, but do celebs (like singers, actresses & those kind of people) charge for the covers/interviews/eds or it is 'voluntary'?

well, I guess you're right but then, why is Vanity Fair so often emphasising how they never pay for the interviews? I was wondering about this thing too, because as much as publicity thing work, magazines sell because of celebrities too.

Exactly, it's a win-win situation. Magazines get to sell more copies by putting the moment's hottest star on the cover, and celebs get to chit-chat about their latest movie/album/fashion line etc.

There is a lot of behind the scene politics when it comes to that. No celeb is ever directly paid, however that is far from meaning the magazine does not have any expenses from their dealings with the talent, the opposite.

Unlike models, with a celebrity an entourage of handlers, and demands comes along. The magazines have to pay everything from the transport ( chauffeur driven luxury car) to catering, and in some crazy situations even the fees of celebs PA's are paid for that day. (mostly huge stars have that kind of leverage, for instance Uma Thurman wont walk a block away, and demands a car to bring her directly to the set of the shoot)

And then some have their own list of make-up, and hair people that they will only work with, and in those cases, the budget is visibly higher, because their fees are bigger than the ones magazine usually works with. Jennifer Aniston, and Cameron Diaz bring that list with them to every shot.

So in the end really it can cost a lot of money for one day shooting with a star, not to mention annoying because if they get granted photo approval, which is rare, but happens (Someone like Victoria Beckham almost always gets it), it can be a nightmare. And of course once you sent your journalist to interview them, you sometimes have to pay for a hotel room, dinner.etc

Which of course in the end one might ask, why bother, just use the models! Its all down to money, even if you spend a certain amount on the day, and deal with all their demands, the celebs that get that kind of treatment almost always guarantee success, which is insane sales, and endless publicity for the magazine.

It really does of course depend on the star also, we ask why Alexa Chung gets herself on so many covers, but for the most part (from my understanding) she arrives at a shoot pretty much on her own, she makes her own way there and doesn't great any massive demands. I imagine when it comes to working out who will give them a huge pay-off in terms of monthly sales, that's factored in. Probably doesn't cost them too much!

Kirstie Clements (former EIC of Vogue Aus) is a possible frontrunner for being the new EIC of Harper's Bazaar Aus (total swap)! And that the entire fashion team of Aus HB has left! So Jill Davison and Christine Centenera are apparently on their way to Vogue Oz!!!!

Thanks for that AL92, that article is so interesting.

I think of all the contenders that have been mentioned, Clements is IMO the most capable of looking after the magazine. It'd be incredible if she did end up landing the top Job. Because i can't shake the feeling that Vogue is going to go down hill. But We'll see anyway.

Allure Magazine to launch in Russia

Allure magazine will be launched in Russia in September 2012, it was announced yesterday by Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman of Condé Nast International.

Allure has become the leading beauty media brand in the world since it was launched in the United States in 1991, says Condé Nast International. Russia will become the third market for Allure, joining the US title, which has a circulation of just over 1.1 million, and Korea, where Allure was launched in 2003. In addition to the printed title, Ksenia Solomatinathere will be an Allure website and digital products.

The editor will be Ksenia Solomatina, who most recently served as Beauty Director of Russian Tatler.

Jonathan Newhouse commented, “The Russian market continues to expand, and Condé Nast has established itself as the leading upmarket media company. The launch of Allure will build on that success.”

The President of Condé Nast Russia, Karina Dobrotvorskaya, said, “Russian women have a strong interest in beauty news and beauty products. Allure will meet their needs and provide an important media vehicle for marketers who want to communicate with them.”

Allure will become the eighth magazine title published by Condé Nast Russia, a wholly owned division of Condé Nast International, which began in 1998 with the launch of Russian Vogue. Other magazine titles include Glamour, Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ), GQ Style, AD, Tatler, and Condé Nast Traveller. There is also a digital division producing several websites and tablet editions including Glamour and GQ.

This is interesting, and if true it means more good things for US Vogue, to me at least:

Today some of my most creditable sources tipped me off to the fact that Alex White may be headed to Vogue. My birdies say that Ms. White is shooting 3 stories for US Vogue this season, and it could lead to a position at the magazine. Ms. White has been absent from the fashion industry since she stepped down from W Magazine last year. At one point there were mumblings and rumblings of Alex creating her own online magazine, but that project never seemed to appear. It seems as though US Vogue and W are now regularly trading stylists as if in a game of poker. First Edward Enninful, then Marie Amelie to W, and Camilla Nickerson back to Vogue and now Alex White too. FASHION TRUFFLE SHUFFLES! We cannot wait to see what Ms. White’s stories for Vogue give us.

I had a funny feeling this would happen but hearing it IRL makes everything so much better! Alex's presence has been sorely missed from the editorial world; hopefully this brings back a bit of excitement to fashion imagery, which is going down the drain rapidly.

Thanking the Gods of fashion for this news rn! I was thinking about Alex a few days ago but my feeling was that she'll go to VI, but Vogue US is just as great! So excited right now for her eds with M&M and McDean. Hopefully, she will have in ed in the September issue if she's already shot three stories.
