The End Of Sex?

I think the old definition of sexy is out. I don't think the top two pictures are sexy at all--they're creative, but not sexy. There have been plenty of outfits that I've seen recently that look very sexy. I would have to admit though, that looking sexy is LESS popular, but it's certainly not out of style. I think right now there is a lot more experimentation going on--we're probably going to see the styles originated from street fashion that we originally laughed at from Japan coming out--where people basically try to look like characters in graphic novels. It's going to influence a whole new way of approaching what is sexy.

I sure wouldn't call the bottom picture "sexy" though. There are a lot better outfits that show people's shapes than that. That outfit looks uncomfortable with all its tight wrinkles, makes the person look cold (not thermally) and quite frankly a little bit stuck up, hair pulled back in a way that looks like she's ready to go to a business dinner, the only thing that looked good about it was the shoes, and the makeup was really awful--lipstick that is almost the lightness of the skin, dark eyeliner that is missing from the inner corners with a hint of white eyeshadow above, yuck. Then the handbag that looks like it should be worn with a jeans outfit.

I love sexy clothing! You can be sexy without showing a lot of skin, that's the magic of it... THAT'S sexy. Trying too hard to be sexy ends up, most of the time, being a turn-off.

I absolutely agree with that! Karma For you

Well of course things like that Lil Kim ensemble are not sexy, I actually like the Paris Hilton pic though and think it's sexy. But I think when wearing sexy clothing, you have to actually feel sexy to make others think that you are.<----I hope that makes sense. But it's all in the way you wear it, you can wear a sexy dress and make it look trashy or make it look sexy or just cute. It just depends on you. Although I do wish that the 90's over-the-top Versace and Tom Ford kinda sexy would come back into style as far as showing skin and sorts.

Kizzume- Perhaps that was not the best example- I will try to find better looks to represent the kind of sexy which I am talking about.

I think part of it is that I want to look "Womanly"/"Strong" rather than "girlish"/"Cutesy"

I really feel that we're in a romantic period at the moment. Putting yourself out there in such an explicit way no longer seems attractive. Of course sexiness is still around but I think it's evolved into something more exuberant. There's alot more humour now! Before sexiness was too serious now it seems there's a bit more cheek.

^ Totally agree!

Sexiness is always in, it just takes different expressions.

I love this thread..StilettoGirl i know what you mean.

The problem i find is that sexy is 50% clothes...50% you being comfortable in your body and i find that the trend of looking like a child (wear a sack so you look as small and sticklike as possible) makes me doubt myself. I dont think I can be sexy when alot of the trends out there teach us to conceal every bump we have. Its a catch 22 situation...i want to be a woman and enhance the curves I have but like a sheep I find myself wearing the 'in' clothes that do everything but enhance them.

Absoulutely! it seems like so many of the designs out there are made to only look good on women with no t*ts or *ss!

While Sometimes this can be a very chic look- A la audry hepburn, all straight lines ect- I don't think it looks very womanly, or sexy- and this sort of look only works on people with delicate bone structures,

and honestly I don't fit into this category.

at all:ninja:

I'm not fat- but I am shaped like a girl

Actually, I think that the "Tom Ford" brand of sexy is slowly coming back in, hard, aggressive and a bit dark. The biggest thing going on in the f/w 06 collections was a newfound severity, and subversive sense of something erotic. Many people on the spot bash that brand of sexiness and I've noticed that the word sl*tty has often times been used to replace sexy.

I've hated the soft, pretty femininity that up until recently has dominated fashion and I couldn't be happier to see a return to something hard, aggressive and sexy....it just seems so modern.

Well I wholeheartedly follow that line of thinking.

i've just not been able to get very into the "sweet delicate girly" sorts of things that have been coming down the runway.

I want to be powerfully sexy if you understand me

I think in fact that "sexy" is coming back ... or tried to come back this spring ... see the return to the 80s, the Versace influence, the return to sexy at Gucci ... that's one thread in fashion right now, but I don't think it's the dominant one.

The nice thing is, there's not much that's not sexy to someone  When you listen to guys talk frankly, they find "sexy" in things I would never think of--seatbelts, for goodness' sake! I remember an ex telling me I was hot when I was wearing a long subtle plaid jumper that buttoned down the sides. When I looked at it, it said more "career," not "hot" :D

So it's all in the eye of the beholder and what's probably most important is that you wear what's "sexy" for you, as long as it doesn't create issues for you. The man or men (or whoever :innocent:) in your life will undoubtedly find something sexy about it too

I suppose to most men, a plastic garbage bag would look sexy on a woman, so long as she was built right!

Viva la sexy is all i say, tomorrow when i hurl my *** out of my sick bed i will show off my body and not do a mary-kate olsen garbage sacklike thing...i am woman and goddamn it i may be sneezing my *** off but i will show that i am woman. Now all i need is an outfit to die for and a scarf and beenie hat to keep warm ...shugar, its already sounding very garbage. Maybe i shouldnt leave the safety of the bed till im fully better and can commit 100% to the look!

Luckily, sexy means different things to different people. Fashion generally draws from street movements and those movements generally challenge, or oppose, what is popular in the "mainstream". Unfortunately, much of the mainstream seems to be consumed with oversexed styles (ie. Paris Hilton) to the point of p*rn-star style, and have been for the last few years. I personally have noticed a graduation to more a understated sexyness in most collections, coupled with designers challenging common silhuettes.

However, I definitely don't think that simply showing a lot of skin is automatically sexy or trashy, that comes more with how you hold yourself and pull it off. Total respect to women that like dressing sexy, embracing their femininity by not being ashamed to rock a hot look for fear of being judged.

^ Yes, but what is sexy or sl*tty is in the eye of the beholder...

A former colleague in a previous line of work was saying something like he really liked how his wife wasn't afraid of dressing like a "real" woman, to fix her hair and wear make-up in a classy way. You know, sexy.

I was expecting an elegant creature when I met her, but she basically looked like a prostitute with a serious weight problem... :ninja:

I think you've really hit it on the head- Fashion types seem to gravitate towards and "antiestablishmentary" style- whatever the masses are not wearing. so in that sense it makes um- sense.
