The Film Lovers Thread!

Has anyone seen La Vie en Rose / La môme?

I have seen it and I must say it is one of my absolute favourite movies. I haven't cried that much over a movie. Ever! Probably the most touching part was when she received the news of her lover's death. It's very difficult for me to believe she was "acting" that tragic reaction !

I am currently obsessed with vintage Faye Dunaway movies...in the past few months I have seen Chinatown, Eyes of Laura Mars, Bonnie & Clyde, Network and last night I watched The Thomas Crown Affair.

She was amazing, a real icon...it's a shame she has faded so much over the years. Honestly though, the 70's was the best period for films, truly.
yes the 70's were excellent ... another great film with Faye Dunaway is Three Days of the Condor

I recently saw "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" starring Maggie Smith. For anyone who loves a fiesty performance, this is a must see.

I just watched "Taking Chance" with Kevin Bacon. It's based on a true story and it's such a lovely movie, Kevin Bacon gives such an understated performance, with any luck he will win the Emmy for this role.

^No, have you, styleocide? for some reason I wasn't drawn to it at all...

I finally got around to seeing Wendy and Lucy last night. it's the first kelly reichardt film i've seen and I was mesmerized... minimalist, I suppose, at least in aesthetic.. but it is loaded with so many thoughts, questions, suggestions, comments on loneliness, solitude, capitalism.. so many things really.. it's one of those films that haunts you.. where for days and weeks you are thinking about it. There were a few moments that were truly heartbreaking.. i thought Michelle Williams was brilliant.. and kelly's own dog played Lucy.. i swear that dog is an old soul..

Yeah I saw it. It was pretty good, I thought.
Yes! I'm recording Almost Famous on my tv right now. I've been wanting to
watch this movie since forever!

I still need to see this! John Krasinski is too adorable for me.

Has anyone seen TransAmerica?
Just re-watched it.. I think I saw it back when it was just realised as well.. I like it, it's a sweet, funny, slowpased ride I think. :D - though the best part of the movie is the acting..

Oh and I really want to see away we go even more now after reading about it here.. :p

And I've really heard so much good being said about 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days I badly want to see it.. Anybody seen it?

I saw it. It's really quite brilliant, but definitely not something to watch if you're looking for a feel-good film. It's very very very dark in every sense of the word... The plot is intense, the scenes are (intentionally) underlit and sombre, the acting incredible. I highly recommend it! Just be prepared to sulk and feel miserable for a few hours afterward :p

I just rewatched this film again:

I'm a huge David Thewlis fan, so perhaps I'm biased... But I find it quite a brilliant film. Seeing the Holocaust from the perspective of an 8 year old naive and innocent German boy is an interesting and fresh take on history. And that end scene! :o:cry:

^Thanks: sounds great.. Going to but it tomorrow, I know a place where it's very cheap :innocent:

Oh I really should stay away from this thread there are temptation everywhere... :ninja: Would love to watch The boy in the striped pyjamas as well.. I for one would like to see David Thewlis in something else than Harry Potter, the big lebowski and 7 years in Tibet.. ^_^

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days are both devastating, but excellent pieces of cinema.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days - loved it and sorta made me sick a little.

question for fellow film lovers: are you sick of Remakes?
I certainly am.whether it's the Americanization of a foreign film(see Brothers and 13 Tzameti) or just remaking great films of decades past,I am really sick of it.

^Yay, rather excited about watching it now, probably must be prepared with candy..
Yeah I don't like remakes either.. And I tend to stay away from them.. Though I have seen a few..
I've seen the original brothers (brødre) and it was all right, but I do believe that the stuff I liked about it will be lost in the translation and thus the remake. And I really can't imagine these actors in the parts...

I think it's generally the 'soul' of the film that gets lost in the remakes, the purpose of making that specific film disappears.. And then it really doesn't matter how good the instructor and actors are...

Go see Mike Leigh's Naked. It's by far the best performance of Thewlis' career! Absolutely brilliant film! :D

YES. I hate when Hollywood tries to remake films in a mainstream fashion! I was particularly pissed when No Reservations came out... I really enjoyed the German original (Bella Martha) and generally refuse to go see remakes!

I'm tired of remakes because of besides the fact that they usually can't compare to the original, there's such an absurd amount of them coming out of Hollywood. I'm not even going to mention which movies I don't want to see remade because I'm sure if I mention them, soon there'll be news of at least one probably with casting I don't care for.
