The Interior Decor Thread! #1

If I were you I would either paint the room or paint a feature wall. Other than that, I actually like the layout. As for a bedside table, anything but the middle one which makes me think of those horrible faux wood desks you have in highschool
I don't do colour :ninja: It must be a Danish thing. I can't stand colours on walls, walls must be white, otherwise I can't function properly  Boyfriend thinks we should put a TV on the wall  Silly boy. I think TV's are frightening, he thinks Dali is frigthening :D

All the colours look good in real life. We bought a cheap table in Ikea for like $10, it looks really nice! Still undecided about white or oak. I think our floors are oak. Too much oak then? God damn. The dark brown drawer is maybe too much if everything else is white and oak? Like the colour very much though.

heyy! i'm new to this thread but i'm loving it so far! have you been to dominomag.com? if you click on galleries, there are lots of pics for decorating inspiration. also, i love apartmenttherapy.com- i'm addicted to it!

isn't Dali color on the walls though? I'm confused.

the_ida i love what the panda is sitting on .. is it bedsheets? i like those ribbings

i think white goes very well with a "natural" look
wood, cobblestone, marble...
so i thought your second choice for drawers was nice --the light brown wood drawers

here's some ideas if it would help you

see, it's just a mixing of different textures in the white, so it doesn't look so bland ^_^

Thanks! :flower: It's a bed cover from Ikea, $10 of course...everything is from Ikea, actually. I think I'm going with white... It's a small room, no reason to make it seem any smaller.

Our entire appartment is white, beige, brown and black. I'd say it looks okay for something that's less than 50 m2  Sometimes it feels claustrophobic, but that was mostly because of the bedroom - too much stuff in 10 m2.

Sounds very minimalist and serene. Resist the urge to clutter it up, I say! Remember: less is more....

So this is where me and BF live... The living room and kitchen is in the same room... At least it's brand new, no one have lived here before us, and the bathroom is pretty nice. I love the table and the mirror the most. I got them when my great grandmother died. We actually still have the reciept, the furniture is from 1925  It's hand made. And BF's monstrous TV takes up a lot of space  ^_^ Oh yes, and there was room for a tiny desk for me and my labtop. But everything is black, brown, beige and white. Kinda boring. Because this place is so tiny, we've managed to sneak in drawers and bookcases in the hallway. It ain't pretty, but it's working

EDIT: That arm sticking out in the first pic is BF throwing his underwear on the sofa

Some more of the table...and a view to the ghetto, extremely depressing.

empaulio i love those lights behind your headstand
are they low watt ?
a bunch of little lights add up you know on the bill :ninja:

The lights are part of the heard board, there are 3 tube lights one along the top and one either side. I guess the same thing could be done to another headboard if you wanted to experiment but i am not so good at DIY

very cool! I don't think you need to get a brand name (like pratesi or any of the designer home collections) to get great high quality sheets. Anything above 800 thread count will be really luxurious.

As an apparel design and textile major, i wanted to mention that there is a certain point where super high count fabrics are actually stiffer and less soft than lower count. It occurs when too many threads are packed together making the fabric tighter and with less give. I found that really surprising when I first learned, because countless companies push the whole "more thread, more comfort, more expensive" angle.

i've been reading about that too .. the high thread count..
i think maybe it's rather in the finishing that makes the fabric comfortable? like some cottons are napped (ie. flannels) and it feels great on the skin

I'm moving and will be redecorating (slightly)

All of my furniture was just purchased last year, so Im not going crazy. I want to do my bedroom very Versailles (opulence, blues etc)

One of the thing I am looking for is a big BLACK chandelier. Ive seen them, but I cant find any online to purchase.

HELP?!!

I have read that anything above 600 thread count in bed linen is bollocks anyway and they are calculating the threads in a different way to make it seem like it is higher than anyone else's.

The_Ida your apartment is fabulous! So minimalist.

yes I really love your apartment too The Ida. Looks great. Esp. the table!

As for a black chandelier....um depends where you live. Anthropologie and Restoration Hardware might have some. In the UK there is this one place with loads of reclaimed wood, appliances, etc (basically anything you can get from a house) but I can't remember what it's called. I would just head round to a local antique shop and find one you like and get it spraypainted

I would recommend anything in the 400-600 TC range. At least that is what I have been told, and I have the comfiest linens on the block, if I may say so. They are 500 TC I believe. :flower:

melt977, I agree with rochasfille, 300-500 are the softest, and also with gius, finishes are important. Napped flannels, or pressed cottons that have a slight sheen are really soft after being washed. Hope this helps a bit!
