The Interior Decor Thread! #2

yes, exactly Meg.. that's what I meant :P

I've talked alot about going on a rural roadtrip to the less fashionable parts of Denmark to visit out of the way 'antique' stores etc.. but so far I've been all talk and no action..

Visited http://www.greensquare.com/Default.aspx today a huge danish antiques store/warehouse..and saw a couple of things I like.. I just wish they didn't have so many Chinese antiques.. not my thing at all.. ..they definately know what to charge for their stuff.

Hey guys.. I happen to be an interior design student...
here's some amazing bar interior from a book I own ...

OMIDO BAR NYC, USA 2006

Omido in Japanese means "shrine" and "small house".
10 cm wide strips of Plyboo are used to clad the walls and ceiling, with gaps designed to enclose "votive candles". Old fashioned "Edison" lightbulbs are hung in glass globes above an Iroko wood sushi bar. A more specific reference to temples is made in the restaurant's private dining alcove, where the ceiling is lined with thousand of omikuji, written prayers in folded paper tied to ropes familiar to visitors of Japan. According to the architects, these simulate the effect of a cloud of feathers.

^^Oh, that's stunning. :o  Always love wood and exposed brick and warm lighting, such a cozy environment.

They haven't mentioned the costs... but I'm guessing they're about 1 million dollars... interior designers charge a lot of money abroad, unlike my stupid country where you only get 500 euro per month ...finishings are very expensive too, especially if it's a lot of natural wood and not terrible HDF boards ...not to mention custom made furniture and lighting objects...
but the outcome is so worth it ..and customers will start pouring in very soon ....
Here's another boutique hotel I'm in love with right now... from London
it's called 40 winks and it's eclectic and marvelous
It's in a Queen Anne period townhouse ....here's some photos from their website

^The last two shots are great
I checked the 40 winks gallery page and I really love it, I only wished the pics were in HQs

40 Winks is pretty close to where I used to live - I thought about setting my mum up there if and when she came to stay. However, the area really isn't that pedestrian friendly and so it kind of a waste to have such a beautiful townhouse but be a bit 'trapped' there....

I think these sort of rooms look visually stunning but the issues I have with them is they are not really liveable... or I dont think so anyway... I'd not feel relaxed and comfortable trying to replicate anything like that in my home... and then to me if im not comfy... It's not home!

I love the first in #65.
Being a student I can only dream of having enough space and money to make my bedroom look like that. And I agree it must be difficult to keep it look so stunning all the time.

Wow great pics!

this thread needs a bit more spark!

What did you think of Carrie and big's apartment in the new SATC movie? did you like the deeper blues and darker colours, wallpapers, carpets........

all photos are from shine.yahoo.com

I loved it - a great mix of some midcentury pieces and more modern things. In the last pic - those curtains :woot: I know it's ridiculous to get excited over curtains, but in the film they look so sumptuous and gorgeous

The apartment is gorgeous! I wouldn't have done the blues though.

ay yes throughout the film i kept getting distracted by their beautiful apartment!

To be honest... I much prefered there old places... not so much bigs... but carries place how it was at the tail end of the first film and then in the second film and you just cant beat the penthouse appartment in the first film... that walk in wardrobe was truely amazing!

As for the one pictured... dont get me wrong its nice... but not sure about elements... The cluttered coffee table for instance... just dont like it!

Ok guys, I need your help.

My parents are going to build a new house at the end of the year and I have taken it upon myself to design everything from the floor plan to the interiors! they are just going along with it all:lol:

Now we are comfortable but not insanely loaded so for example a Hermes throw rug and a picasso isn't really within the budget but nice furnishings are. The house is going to be along the lines of a 'hamptons beach house'.

Basically the house is going to consist of
- 4 big double bedrooms (none with ensuites) all with built in robes.
- there is going to be a big open plan area that has the dining, living and kitchen that then leads on to the outdoor living areas.
- a large lounge room that is seperate
- study
- storage room
- 2 bathrooms
- the other necessary rooms like laundry, garage etc.

If it makes it any easier I can draw you a floor plan of what we are going to get the architect to make up:flower:.

I have all of these great plans for the rooms and decor. It isn't going to be a minimalist or ultra modern house but rather contemporary, timeless and comfortable.

The house is going to be built on a farm so its going to have all the lovely manicured lawns, post and rail fences and liquid amber type trees along the front fence (the type that go orange in autums)

so guys I need all of your ideas, photos and everything and then once it all gets under way I can show you the progress until it is completely finished. Sort of like a 'TFS house project':woot::lol:

What's the age of each person who has a room in this house? Do they have specific tastes?

That kind of thing gets me so excited

love those colors, but overall it looks so unlivable to me! I really am crazy about the color pallatte though.

Very cool that you get to do this Sea Of Love ! Normally I'd JUMP at the prospect of givng my two cents.. but my own interior projects are leaving me guilty due to my indecisiveness.. so I should stick to getting something done at home..
Regardless I'd love to see the floor plan..

Anyways.. since you mention 'hamptons beach house'. I think you should check out the old move w. Diane Keaton and Jack Nichols - Somethings Gotta Give where there is a perfect Hampton beach house - the interior designer James Radin is mentioned here:

http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2008/07/james-radin-something-gotta-give.html

Don't know if he has made any interior books (seems like all interior designers do..) but it would probably be worth checking out :flower:
