The Interior Decor Thread! #2

The London home of designer Marc Newson and stylist Charlotte Stockdale:

My scans from Vogue Living Australia May/June 2010

I agree that they aren't very liveable, I would need sunglasses to walk through the house. However, its a bit like fashion its not always wearable but its about pushing the limits and designing something that is different from the rest. the way I see it is that we have these over the top unliveable interiors but then we can take bits and pieces from the room and incorporate it into our life. For example the house above could be highlighting the addition of pink in a room.
Its a bit like hgh fashion, not everyone is going to be able to wear the Balmain jacket from last season but then it trickles down to everyone else and we see a lot of jackets with a strong shoulder infiltrating the high street shops.

Here are some interiors i loooooove. Following on from the Hamptons style I'm after.

I'd much rather see interesting, colourful things in magazines, and indeed, in my own spaces, than just bland, safe, beige interiors. I'm quite often surprised by the rather conservative architectural and interior tastes of fashion lovers. They love forward, extravagant, daring haute couture and future-thinking, innovative fashion design, yet their tastes at home are rather boring and outdated. As an architecture student myself, this is quite a disappointment to me. The design world outside of fashion is so underrated and under appreciated.

I love the green walled room in post #65. A house in a dream of mine last night had a similar wall actually but multi-colored.

Horses for courses. I can see both sides as I had previously stated, to say one is better than the other is nothing but a matter of taste. Not every fashion lover is avant garde in the dressing and outfits. It is quite funny but I have seen outfits of WSG and we both have similar tastes in clothes. We aren't looking for ultra modern, minimalist clothing, rather we both like ultra-luxurious,old-world glamour, feminine outfits that are statements without being over the top and still have that ultimate level of comfort. Somewhat reflective of our tastes in homes.
If there is anyone that appreciates the design world outside fashion its me, in fact I would prefer to spend my money on pillow covers than clothes. It may be right to say we are conservative in our tastes but it is also a reflection of our fashion tastes.:flower:

The type of interior design I don't get is one with a lot of white and cream--and several small children. How does it stay white? You can clean things but a lot of stuff doesn't come out!

I'm always surprised at how people can spend big money on fashion and have cheap/minimally decorated homes - no matter what the style. So I do agree somewhat.

The thing about decorating your home in an edgy style is that you need the right bones -- most homes will look ridiculous with more interesting design because the homes that works for tend to be great spaces with great bones if you look over Elle Decor or the like. The other problem being that interesting furniture/fabrics/home elements are incredibly expensive. Modern from Ikea just isn't going to cut it for me personally.

the homes in this thread make me want to do up my room!!

I think the problem is people assuming that for a home to be livable I am saying it should be bland and boring and have split modern styling and be a mix of whites and beiges with a navy sofa! Er NO! Not at all...

I would also say minimally decorated does not neccessarily mean cheap... Less can be so much more!

The first rule with any house however is generally to tailor the general styling to the age of the property... you can mix it up a bit and get away with extreme variations but generally a modern house looks good with modern features and an older house suits a more period decor.

Sea of Love is exactly right about me... what is more important than anything is that my house looks good, its feels and looks luxurious and comfy... but is also practical, liveable and that to get it to look good I dont need to have it ultra tidy and ultra clean... if a magazine is left out... well it should sorta look like its meant to be there! The pics Sea of Love posted suit my style a lot as I feel this house is very liveable!

I think however eveyone is entitled to there own thoughts here... and we should be able to express them freely... so if you like what you like good for you... and I what what I like which is good for me....

What I think we all love though is seeing other ideas... which is the purpose of this thread to me...

here are some more.....

OMG I think I just died. I love those photos. Thank you so much for posting.

i need some suggestions..

i was planning to do a cluttered collection of photo frames above my bed (after being inspired by a million pictures of it from this thread) but i have a little problem, i cant really put nails into my wall because my wall (or the paint?) starts to get little cracks in them. so is there any alternate way to hang up pictures?

also, i'm doing up the attic with a Moroccan & Indian theme. The walls and ceiling are painted yellow and orange and i plan to do the curtains turquoise and pink/red. The walls are kind of bare so suggestions/pictures are welcome!
