The MAC Makeup Thread

I wonder if that rule applies outside the States ??

Hmmm ... well, it's a Canadian company, but I can see how it might not be practical (might use more energy than it saves) to ship the containers back from overseas for recycling ... the SAs mention the program nearly every time I go (I buy MAC at a wide variety of stores, whichever one is closest when I need it). Maybe you can ask and let us know :flower:

I went to the MAC counter and asked distinctly for bronzer. I got sent home with Iridescent/loose powder in Golden Bronze. Is this the same thing? Also, how do you open it??? i know there is a sticker which peels of but do u open it up or just sweep your brush over the surface of the container??? I am also confused as to all the different textures of eyeshadows and lipsticks. How do you try lipsticks on??? I bought a shade which looked like a nice neutral for day (naked lunch) .... but I think i bought the wrong texture, Frost texture, because it came out shimmery and metallic beige. IT was lovely for evening tho.

It was my first time shoping at MAC .... before i just sent my boyfriend to buy me strobe cream becasue i was too chicken.

Just thought u might be interested ... I live in South Africa and the MAC recycling programme applies here too.

Yes it does, but not in every country... for example Spain has B2M, Germany and Austria don't. Australia has B2M, Taiwan has B2M, Japan has B2M, but in Japan you need 10 empties to get a free Lipglass. Someone said it's because countries that don't do B2M don't recycle, but thats not true since Austria has recycling (I live here), so you can't logically find out which countries have...
BTW I sent an e-mail to MAC if there was a list with countries that participate, but there wasn't, she didn't know about other countries..

Hi Tushka_BeLLa, I did a search on Mac's site.. and there are two products that match your describtion..I take it you got the first one..(I have the second) I'd go back and ask the SA what she does (she probably uses the stuff everyday so she should know) .

As for how you try lipsticks on..usually I try them on my hand first..If I like what I see..I ask the SA to disinfect the lipstick..so I can try it on..

http://www.maccosmetics.com/ does list the different textures of lipstick they do..so you can search in the different categories..(mind you I often find that their describtions are a little bit off..but it could help you get an idea of what to ask to try when you go by MAC again)

Hi Tushka_BeLLa,

I'm sure there are lots that would love to share what they think would suit you..I know the feeling myself..sometimes I get stuck in a rut with regards to what colours I put on my face..I usually book an appointment with a makeup artist (it's free if you buy a few products usually)..and have them apply something that they think would suit me..and I usually end up using the products I buy after such a session. :flower:

Thanx! :flower:

@ Tushka_Bella: You could make a new thread, where members seeking advice can post their pics, this will work better than descriptions I guess. Maybe tell us which foundation shade suits you, since photo's can wash out colors. If you know you're MAC shade (like NC30, or NW25) it's best, since many people refer to skin tones in MAC ^^

I went to the MAC counter today and was so disappointed. I bought glitter cream from there a month ago and hadn't used it since i had bought it because it was so crap! neway i went to to return it and they were so un helpful! Im not buying any MAC profucts again! Im from Melbourne.. where have all the old friendly MAC staff gone? MECCA is so much better then the MAC counter.

I think I'm going to get my make-up done professionally, that's a good idea. How many products would you need to buy???

I also want to try an everyday, natural look and then an evening look. Can the makeup artist do both at the same time?

Thank you for all your help and advice...just another reason why I love TFS!
Do you think I should start a thread where people could psot pictures and others recommend makeup?

I think you should post your question in the The Make Up Help and Tips thread : http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21256

In Denmark you'd have to buy products worth about 150-175 Dkr thats about 25 US dollars or £15.

It's good to be specific about the looks you want..try having a look in magazines and take pictures of the looks you want to achieve with you..ask the SA to explain and show you what she is doing step by step.

My friend and I are scheduled to get our make up done at mac next saturday for our homecoming. We are all wearing black & white. Any advice for what I should do?? I'm thinking of a smoky look? I have no idea, I don't wear make up normally, mostly only mascara (diorshow!) Also, when we get our make up done we're required to purchase a minimum of $40 worth of make up. Any ideas what I should buy since I don't wear make up often? My friend told me to get some blush & eyeliner. Thanks for the help =)

smokey eyes sound good for a black & white outfit. I'd suggest some bronzer on the cheeks, black or darkbrown eyeshadow and nude lips.

as for the eyeliner: their liquid e/l runs off immediately if any water (tear)touches it, and their powerpoint eyeliner in engraved (black) is more of a dark grey and doesn't last longer than normla e/ls... but maybe their khols are good, didn't try them yet.

their blush has good reviews or maybe you wanna get a bronzer instead

my MAC Faves are the e/s and lipglasses. You could pick up a neutral e/s color for everyday or something bright/glam for special events.
The lipglasses are quite sticky though, if they didn't have colors like Oyster Girl and Elle and a good vanilla scent, I wouldn't use them...

Lustreglasses and Lipgelees are less sticky and also quite popular. Lustreglasses have more sparkle whereas Lipgelees almost have no shimmer in them, just a creamy lipgloss with sheer color. You might like the Lipgelees for they are the most natural looking l/gs.

You could also get a Lip conditioner, lipstick... the list is endless since I like MAC so much ^^

thanks ambidextrous!
maybe ill try the khols eyeliner and get the bronzer, and maybe lipgelees?

smolder eye kohl is their best black eye liner. they also have fluidliners which are gel based liners and have good staying power. they're iffy on the lower inner rims though.

i would recommend lustreglasses more than lipglasses since the lipglasses are sticky. be careful with the lip gelees. people have had them bust open at the seam.

i'm always an advocate for shroom eye shadow. i think it looks nice on anyone.

if you want an eye shadow brush, the #217 is my favorite. you can use it with cream products, a blending brush, and it gives a nice wash of color like with shroom.

I love their blush. It's the best one I've ever used.
Also, I totally agree that their lipglasses are very sticky and they don't last too long. I have tons of them because I love their colours but I don't really use them.
I also love their eye-shadows and especially a product that is called colour pigment or something like that. It's amazing when applied and it lasts for many hours.
And I really hate their mascara!!

thanks everyone =) yall are alot of help!

should i get blush or bronzer? whats the difference?

i will definetely try the kohls eyeliner and the lustreglasses or lipgelees

and thanks for your opinion on their mascara, i was planning on purchasing some since thats what i mainly use, but i think i'll stick w/ my diorshow mascara
