The Mascara Thread

If it´s a navy mascara i would use it more in day time, if it´s more of a light blue or turquoise i would wear it at night.
I think blue mascara looks great on brown eyes.

As for the eyeshadow to go with it i think some dark blue eyeshadow would look great.

yeah it is kinda navy and I do have brown eyes... I'm not used to wearing blue mascara tho, it kind of accidentally has been bought and I don't want it to go to waste. Besides maybe I could discover a new look :P

But now, my HG mascara is English Ideas Mega Mascara. It is the only, ONLY mascara I've ever found that stays put all day, and even all night if I forget to take it off. No smudging, no flaking, not on my skin or even on the pillow. I can even put it on my lower lashes, which I've never, ever been able to do before without major smudging in about five minutes or so.

It goes on fairly easily with minimal clumping, and the brush is easy to control. But it dries quickly and then has the consistency of tar. One coat is enough for me; I suspect it would be difficult to apply multiple coats. It is a bit of a trick to get off; I usually soak my eyelashes with a wet washcloth for a minute or two, then peel the stuff off between my fingernails.

If you're looking for thickening, lengthening, curling, etc. mascara, this isn't the one for you. If you are searching for mascara that doesn't smear no matter WHAT, try this one.

Thanks for the tip! I have this problem and it has really put me off mascara. I just ordered the Mega Mascara from Sephora. Thanks again :flower:

I've tried a lot of mascaras, and my favorites are Dior Show & surprisingly, Prescriptives False Lash... my goal is length, and both of these (especially the prescriptives) works well for that.
stacy

I use Prescriptives False Lash and Shu Uemura's mascara in black. I've tried Maybeline's waterproof (recommended by all my friends and even my mother) but personally I did not like it. My overall fav is Shu Uemuras, but its expensive like $30 or something like that (i got it as a present so dont quote me on the price).

I have serious mascara issues...for some reason I can never get it to look right. I can do cat eye liquid liner in a couple minutes but I always screw up mascara. The main problem is that my lashes stick together and I get it on my eyelid. I've been using Shiseido Lasting Lift on the recommendation of a friend, and while it's better than the other ones I had used (cheapo Revlon/Maybelline stuff), it still doesn't look good. My lashes still stick together, though not as much as the other mascaras. And it has a tendency to be clumpy. I don't want to judge it as a product because I don't know if the fault lies with the mascara or the way I'm applying it.

So, two questions:
1- What's the best way to apply mascara that keeps them separated but still gives a dramatic effect?
2- I want very dramatic lashes. I wear bright/dramatic eyeshadow and thick, retro liquid liner, even during the day, so I want lashes that can complement that. What brand of mascara do you recommend? I've read through this whole freaking thread :smile:blink:smile: and it seems to be that Lancome Hypnose, Diorshow, and MAC Prolash are the best bets - but which is the most dramatic?

EDIT: I have dark brown eyes and never have a problem with smearing. I'm trying to avoid waterproof mascaras.

^ ^ You could probably try combing through your lashes with an eyelash comb (?) not sure if it is called that, but it is a tiny hard little comb at the end of a wand of whatever and the one I have comes with a hard brush on the other side for straightening eyebrows. Anyway, after you apply the mascara you can use one of those to comb through and separate your lashes to avoid clumping.

I personally use Diorshow, and the more you put on the more dramatic it looks for thick long lashes. I usually put on 1 coat or 2 for daytime so it's not too intense but it sounds like you like the dramatic look and 3 coats would probably be enough for that--but obviously it's up to your own discretion. I'm not sure about the other brands because I've loved the Diorshow too much in the last couple years to use anything else. Hope that helps!! Good luck!

:P Hi there!
my look is always cat liquid liner on the top lid.

This is what i use for my mascara look:

- i'm so not a Cover Girl fan or rep, but i LOVE the Cover Girl Fantastic Lash in Very Black. It's amazing but you've got to know how to work it. Now it may sound like a whole lotta work... but it really isn't - and this is just the technique that works well with me.

CG FL separates, thickens and lengthens. It's a drier formula so even with a new tube, i pump the wand several times to get a wetter product and then use it on curled lashes. i know this makes the product life shorter and is a big makeup no-no... but i find it's a must.

2 full coats (where each coat is 6+ sweeps of mascara) is enough. Don't let the first coat fully dry before applying the second, otherwise you'll get flakes. 3 full coats will give you clumps and flakes.

For each sweep, wriggle the brush throughout your lashes.

CG FL does such a great job at not clumping (if you've pumped the wand) that you won't need the eyelash comb. In fact, using the eyelash comb on dried coats will give you flakes.

Each tube lasts me 2months max, but b/c it's so cheap - it almost works out to be the same as an expensive mascara that lasts max 6months. i love the effect - i've tried more expensive brands - and they can be great - but find it's easier to get CG FL and b/c i've got my technique down pat, it's all good.

- if you're not going to use CG FL - then i'd agree - you must use the eyelash comb to rid yourself of clumps. you'll have to figure out when you can use the comb with your mascara - b/c if it's too dry/too wet, you may reduce the effect of the mascara.

- maybe a mascara with silicon will give you the separation you'd like.

- i think any sort of mascara that will give you dramatic lashes, will have its cons to work with - as they tend to have fibres.

- have you tried adding a pre-mascara product? the kind that adds fibres first to build up the mascara you already have?

hope somehow that helps.

ciao!

Pre-mascara product?? What's that? And what does it do? And if it's great, where do you get that? :P

Thanks gruveechik, those were excellent tips...I bought CG FL and it really is a nice mascara, guys...I recommend! Better than stupid $20 Shiseido

I bought Diorshow mascara for the first time about a month ago and I've fallen in love. It's the best mascara I've ever used and the packaging is very classy. So much better than Maybelline or others I've tried.

I use YSL in brown.. not that I see a big difference between the brown and black.. or I don't think I do. :P

My friend has the same, she buys brown cuz she cant see the difference. I once bought navy and the difference wasn't THAT big either

The colours depend on the makings of the mascaras.
Sometimes you see the difference in colours, sometimes you dont!

I need some recommendations! My lashes are almost pointing down, so I have to curl them alot and all the time. is there a mascara that helps? and I need something that is not very expensive. any favourites?

I had the same problem, and I found that using a heated eyelash curler set the curl better. With a normal curler, my lashes would fall within 10 minutes of curling them.

really? I think it sound kind of scary, like they would fall off or something? I don't know if they sell them in Sweden, but i searched the internet and found a danish site where you can order them. Is it really worth it?
