The Official Harry Potter Thread

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK :p

I saw it yesterday and it was great. Not OMG amazing but I didn’t RAGE walking out after like I did with PoA, GoF and OotP. I’m happy with it. I’m a hardcore book fan who can’t separate the two so shoot me.

They covered mostly everything perfectly. The ministry break in, the camping loneliness, the fighting, the clothes and the way they explained the Deathly Hallows was really interesting.

I still want to punch Steve Kloves in the face. His pushing of Harry & Hermione is just beyond annoying (they were NEVER going to be together. GET OVER IT already). I personally didn’t need the little dance scene. I would rather have had more Harry & Ginny scenes like them dancing at the wedding instead. A longer kitchen scene of her saying she knows he has to go but that she loves him etc then kiss would have been perfect and it wouldn’t have hurt to add him looking at her dot on the map. God I hate Kloves.

Acting wise Dan and Emma were better in this than in HBP. Rupert was solid like always but the other two are just as good now. Jason Issacs was so good in his fallen grace. Helena was HBIC. I missed McGonagall but I was glad to see Matt Lewis considering we don’t see Neville till the last quarter in the book. Notice Krum wasn’t in it. The actor filmed scenes at the wedding (Ron gets jealous when he dances with Hermione). The wedding was too short.

Two things that I couldn’t understand were why did they give all of Graybacks lines to Scabior? I mean yeah he’s looks more badass but why. And they forgot to explain the taboo of saying Voldemort’s name. It made no sense whatsoever when Xenophilius said it. Major plot hole there

No one will probably agree with me but sometimes I really thought it lacked emotion. Everything just went so fast. I know there is a lot to cover but they did split the book in two. Like when Harry’s wand broke he’s suppose to get extremely emotional and upset not just say “Ok Hermione I’ll take watch now”. His wand is a very important plot point. And when they were burying Dobby I was just about to tear up but it went straight to the final scene and then end. I was like “Is that it? Give me a chance to cry why don’t you”.

Anyway I’m excited for Part 2. I can’t wait for the Gringgots scene. And of course finally THE KISS we have been waiting 10 years for.

Ron and Hermione forever

Also I forgot to mention why did they not let Tonks say that she was pregnant. Seriously if they leave out Teddy I will RAGE.

something i noticed about reviews by people who haven't read the books is that they complain about the book being split into two movies, but after seeing this movie i can't agree with this at all.
i wouldn't want it any other way, it already feels a little rushed at times, but i can't even begin to imagine how messy it would've been had they crammed the whole book into one movie.
they probably could've shortened the camping scenes, but you need to feel the hopelessness, i feel like this movie just proves how necessary it was to turn it into two movies. and i even feel like it's a stand-alone film. the whole movie had this underlying plot of voldemort trying to find the perfect wand and in the end the elder wand and him getting into his possession was the final scene which made perfect sense. sure it's just a prelude to the final movie, but there was enough action and plot to not make it just a filler

I agree with everything..especially the burying Dobby part was very quick and real disappointment..but I went to see this movie with low expectation so I was surprised in a good way and I really liked it. Only thing I didn't like was that chasing scene with Hagrid on the highway (very cheap for me) and I also didn't like how they made a bad guy from Grindelwald (I mean he is or was a bad guy but he didn't tell Voldemort that Dumbledore has the wand). And yes Steve Kloves definitely sucks, no wonder he didn't do Ootp because I actually liked that one..

the two parts is very justifiable, i'd rather have them split it into two than mutilate the whole plotline again; imagine how hideous it would've been to squeeze all 36 chapters into one movie, it would've been terribly distorted and wouldn't make no sense (and alot of people would really complain lol seeing as it's the last movie). the camping scenes are indeed quite dragging but it's a logical preparation since the last half is undoubtedly full of action, the whole pacing was just right. i'm just glad they're sticking to the book on this one, i've never really been a fan of HP movies cause i always end up being disappointed with the butchered storyline, but this one was very agreeable.

spoiler: still cant get over how torrid Harry and Hermione's kissing scene was lol. and yeah Dobby's funeral should've been given more focus, you could just barely feel the grief at the ending.

Hermione's, Hermione's closet is wee! Wearable, comfy and even preppy chic. The only one thing I don't really like is her track pants.
And her bag, her wonderful bag! I even wanted to buy it, but The Noble Collection doesn't ship to Russia.

I have to say, I agree fully! :D:D It was kind of funny to think how much she actually put into that bag! Even at such a time she made sure to stay well dressed B)

 this was so me at the screening. i always get chills when i hear hedwigs theme or just see the WB logo:lol:

I just got back from the cinema and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was awesome and I really enjoyed it:)

I saw the movie today! And I was  It was brilliant. Even though I pretty much cried from the beginning all the way to the end. :D Spoilers ahead:
I loved the scene at Hermione's home, where she basically erases herself from the family. It was great.
I laughed so hard at the pollyjuice potion scene in the beginning, with 7 Harrys :D it's even more hilarious than in the book!
Also the Malfoy mansion scene in the beginning was great, Lucius Malfoy was so scared and just so broken. Really well made, and the actors were more than amazing.
Bathilda Bagshot scene with the snake and all was pure horror! I felt that every 400 people in the threater were holding their breaths.
The part where Harry leads Hermione to dance was pretty endearing, he looked so ridicilous but the music on the backgroud and everything, ah perfect!
And of course I am such a wimp and cried my eyes out at poor Dobby
All in all I loved this more than I've loved any other movie at first time I've seen it. I loved that they had time to go through important events as in the book. Also it was fun to have so much humour there (mainly by Ron) with all the scary bits. All the actors excelled!, really perfect performances.
Cant wait to have it as a DVD :woot:

Ahh I loooved it!! So great. I loved the Harry/Hermione dance, because for me it showed that despite everything they were doing, and had to do, they are still just teenagers. It was so endearing and heartbreaking..

Alright so for all the HP experts here (and I can see quite a few ;) ) I've got a couple of naive questions:

Why did they have to WEAR the locket all the time? Why not put it into some box and leave it on the shelf?

And how can you tell whether a person is half or pure blood?

Just being picky and curious :P

harry insisted that they wore it because it was easier to lose if they didn't. they took turns so that they didn't have to deal with all the negative stuff. i think after godrics hollow, Hermione put it in the beaded bag until harry wore it the night it was destroyed. idk for sure.

@aqua: i'll just quote harrypotter.wikia.com
The Muggle-Born Registration Commission was set up by the Ministry of Magic following Lord Voldemort's takeover on 1 August, 1997. The public goal of the Commission was to force all Muggle-born wizards and witches to register with the Ministry, then undergo interrogation as to how they "stole" their magical power from "real" wizards and witches. The true purpose of the Muggle-Born Registration Commission was to imprison and degrade Muggle-borns. Dolores Umbridge was the head of the commission. The Commission had Muggle-borns who registered fill out questionnaires about their family history, and then wait for their trial behind bars in the Ministry of Magic. While awaiting trial, they were guarded by Dementors, and threatened with the Dementor's Kiss if they resisted. Trials were held by Commission head Dolores Umbridge, who was assisted by Death Eater and head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement Yaxley at times. Travers, another Death Eater, may also have been involved, as Umbridge once mentioned him sending someone to record-keep for her. Those who could not prove that they had magical heritage — in other words, any Muggle-born and potentially some half-bloods — were sentenced to Azkaban for having "stolen" magic. Some, however, were apparently released after being stripped of their wands and their jobs, and ended up homeless. This led some Muggle-borns to fake their family trees, such as Dirk Cresswell, and others to refuse to register and go on the run, such as Ted Tonks. These individuals were pursued by Snatchers, sometimes fatally. Their deaths were not reported by news outlets such as the Daily Prophet, only by the rebellious radio program Potterwatch.

basically it's not an obvious thing, wizards had to prove they're pure bloods

^ I can't recall a movie where I teared up right from the beginning..

OMG that gave me chills in the theater... and imagine, I read somewhere that she screamed like that for 2 minutes whilst they were shooting...

I heard that as well, 4-5 mins I think.. They just basically asked her and Helena to run with it.. The first time I saw it, I thought it would have been better if they had shown the whole torture scene.. But the second time, I was thinking it works with just a glimpse of the torture scene and then the screams in the background.. And this audio just proves that the sound works just as well on its own..
