The Official Harry Potter Thread

I think Deathly Hallows has a pretty good chance. I personally wasn't impressed with the effects in Inception, but I have a feeling the Academy may give it to Nolan because they snubbed The Dark Knight (which was 10 times better than Inception IMO) two years ago.

Alice in Wonderland bored me to tears, but the Art Direction was creative. Classic Tim Burton. However, considering the work the HP team has done the past 11 years...It's going to be severely disappointing if the series doesn't win at least one Oscar by the time it ends. Stuart Craig and his team designed and built all those sets from the ground up! The Ministry of Magic, Bathilda's House, the Lovegood house, the Burrow, Dumbledore's Office, Umbridge's Office in OOTP, the Great Hall, Hagrid's Hut, the Shrieking Shack, Snape's house, Malfoy Manor, Gryffindor Common Room, Hogsmeade, Privet Drive, the Yule Ball, the Astronomy Tower, the Cave in HBP, Snape's office, etc was ALL built and designed by the Art Direction team in Harry Potter. Not to mention the Theme Park that Stuart Craig also designed and helped build.

And don't even get me started on what the Special Effects team have done over the years and in Deathly Hallows.
The HP team deserves and SHOULD win. We'll see if they do this time.

Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema BAFTA Award for Potter Film Series

Harry Potter franchise to get outstanding Bafta award

The Harry Potter films will receive an outstanding British contribution to cinema prize at this year's Bafta awards, organisers have announced.

Potter author JK Rowling and producer David Heyman will receive the award on behalf of the franchise.

The films have "highlighted the expertise within the British craft and technical industries", Bafta said.

The 2011 Bafta Film Awards will be held at London's Royal Opera House on 13 February.

Starting in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the seven films released so far have made more than $5.4 billion worldwide.

An eighth and final instalment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, will be released in July.

Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, 21, said he had "loved every minute of making these films".

"To me the real heroes are the crew and the huge team of craftsmen that have made all eight of them possible," he went on.

"This award is a testament to their incredible work."

Radcliffe's sentiments were echoed by co-star Emma Watson, who said it was "a huge honour".

"Thank you so much BAFTA for this amazing award," added Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley opposite Radcliffe's Harry and Watson's Hermione Granger.

To date, the Potter movies have received seven Oscar nominations and 28 Bafta nominations.

Jonathan Ross will host this year's Bafta Film Awards, to be broadcast on BBC One.

i love how Dan talks about the crew, they're such great kids and know whom they have to thank and don't let the fame get to their heads. one more reason to love them:heart:

Awesome! I wonder if the Oscars will do the same thing at some point?
The Potter films have done a lot for cinema worldwide, but obviously the biggest impact
was on the British economy. You don't see many Massive British films like Potter, so those films have kept a lot of people employed the past 10 years.

And on a more sentimental note, a whole generation has grown up with these films, me included.
I was 12 when I saw the first movie. I'm 23 now. I can't believe they're ending.

^you're same age with me! :)
i hope one day, someone re-makes this again but for tv-shows! i guess this would be more awesome?

^I don't want them to re-make it. It would be SO weird to see someone else playing those characters. The HP films were kind of coming out synonymously with the books, so a lot of people automatically visualized the actors as the characters in the books. I know I did. Whenever I read the books, I picture Dan, Rupert, and Emma.

So, I can't imagine anyone else in those roles. Plus, it's going to be really hard to re-create this experience.
They would have to find actors willing to donate 11 years of their life to making these films or even longer for a TV show, especially since they know it's such a huge project.
When the trio signed on, Harry Potter hadn't really blown up yet.

Funny you mention that, I just realised that when I read the last couple of books, I never really imagine the characters from the movie.
Hermione in my imagination has fussy hair and generally gives out more harmonious vibe insterad of Emma Watson's nervousness, Rupert is a bit of a funny bloke, smiling much more and Harry is very skinny, pale and quick.
If that makes any sense :-D

I really dont want a remake, not any time soon anyways. Maybe in let's say 20-30 years, if the kids of that time are still interested in the series, then maybe the remake would be in order. But I cant imagine the series for TV, would be interesting though...

Lol. Hermione is always nervous/anxious in the books too. That's why I love her. :D

I think the Harry I picture looks like Dan, but with green eyes and taller. And my Ron always starts out looking like Rupert when I read one of the books, but then transforms into a completely different looking one. I think everyone imagined the characters differently when they read the books. I know this one guy who always thought Hermione was black until the movies came out. :p

Here's an old school HP picture circa Chamber of Secrets.
I love the looks on their faces. So awesome!

Isn't this the magic of the books though? We can imagine what the characters look like and each of us will have a different version of Ron, Hermione, Harry and everyone else. Personally, I love that everyone see's them differently and that the actors don't necessarily fit our ideas of these beloved characters, because obviously they fit someones idea (just not ours). So if we don't like the movies all we have to do is read the books and we will instantly be transported back to our Harry, Hermione and Ron.

This is what I love too! So many times when me and one of my fellow Potter nerd friends and I were talking about HP once and one of us mentions something about a character, there is always one person who disagrees :p

Same thing happens to me. Some people perceive Hermione to be incredibly annoying and bossy.
While others see an intelligent girl who loves her friends and wants to protect them.

The same thing goes for Harry. Some see him as stupid and angsty.
Others see him as a hero who's been through too much in his short lifetime.

And Ron some people think he's brave and serious.
Others see a hot-tempered, immature, jealous boy.

Some people love Draco and see a boy mistreated boy who deserves pity.
Others loathe him and see a spoiled, selfish, arrogant jerk. :D

All depends on who you are and where you are in life.
I get something completely different out of the stories now that I'm older than I did when I was younger.

Love it. :D

Yes! Same here. I think that by growing up with the books my perceptions and feelings also changed with time. I always feel like every time I read one of the books I see it slightly different then before because I have changed since the last time I read the books. I guess its all about personal growth then! ^_^

Video of Harry Potter before receiving the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema at BAFTA..

Emma and JK look teary.. I would be too..
