^ It's the beach wedding, but I have since found out it is by the beach - on an overlook. So, I won't have to trek through sand.

It seems really black for a beach wedding to me ... I'd look for more color myself ... :flower:

Texastess, I think I can guess a possible spot of the wedding. There is a very popular beach overlook called "lovers point" where a lot of Monterey weddings are held. It's a very beautiful, but casual spot. And it's very windy.

OMG, I think that is it!!! How windy? Because a dress blowing up in the wind just may be my nightmare.

anyone know of any plus brands/brands that have plus sizes that cater to girls who have hips/bum/thighs, but a small waist??

all of my jeans, if they fit me in the thighs, they're baggy/long in the crotch and way too loose in the waist.
old navy is notorious for that, i have a pair i liked, but they just don't work right...
right now, i'm sticking with lane bryant's jeans (which have the long/baggy crotch), but i want something different.

i hate how plus sized clothes are just big all over...like every plus sized woman is completely proportionate!! i can't cuff my jeans, cos the bottom leg part is too wide it looks like gauchos or something, lol....and the thighs fit, but the waist is too big that my belt gathers it and just looks sloppy

..my waist is currently about 14..but i wear a 20 because of my bum/thighs/hips (yeah, i'm VERY disproportionate...) lol, and i wear a large or medium in shirts...it's awful.
i just want to find jeans that work for me...:(

I feel your pain! I have the same problem! My waist/hip ratio is ridiculous. So far, the only ones from LB that work are the low-rise flares, or the stretch boot cut. I have a boot-cut pair that starts out fitting properly, but ends up sagging by the end of the day. By the time I get home, the butt's completely wrinkled and saggy, and it's falling off of my waist LOL

texastess- banana republic has a great faux wrap dress in a light grey for f/w. with the right shoe, i think it would be appropriate for the wedding or dinner. the sleeves hit almost at the elbow, but it's not a cap sleeve or anything slightly revealing. there's a bit of room for cleavage (as with most wrap/faux wrap dresses), but it's very tasteful.

Is this it?

no, but it's very similar. the one i'm talking about doesn't have the wrap thing (which would bother me).

i'll try to find it...

found it!
i don't know how to post pictures, but on the site, it's under knit dressing and is called the shapely houndstooth knit dress. it's so nice irl, and looks less old than some of the other wrap dresses posted. i have no idea how old you are, but this dress seems to be flattering on almost everyone and gives them the appearance of looking more youthful.

i work at br currently and have for over a year, but in october i'm moving to forth and towne. fyi, they're going to carry thru size 20 IN THE STORES, which is going to tap into a huge market. i would describe the clothes as a mix of banana, gap, and anthropologie. the quality is like banana, but the price points are actually just a tad lower (only because banana's prices have gone up SO much lately).

I was just looking at the Alice Roi S/S O7 runway show thread and I thought of you ladies over here and your desire for more plus-size fashion role models. Roi herself is looking very chic in this photo, I think:

texastess- that grey dress- post # 282 looks a lot like the one McQueen did in his hitchcock collection fall 05- I like it a lot

HBoogie- I don't like her look. I think she could probably do better

From what I've seen on the Forth and Towne Web site, the items look interesting. I have heard there are stores planned for Los Angeles and San Diego (I'm in OC), so more options are nice. I'm liking what I've seen on the F&T site.

yes, the stuff is pretty cute, even if you aren't in that demographic (it's aimed at 35+). the little jackets/capelets are darling.

i'll let you guys know more about the quality as i leave banana and start over there. they actually postponed our opening two weeks because of construction or something, but as soon as i see the goods, i'll let you guys know.

texastess- yes, that's the dress. i would try it on, but if you're busty it seems to be reeeeally flattering and doesn't need a cami under like most wrap dresses (for those who are busty, of course).

I know this is probably more classic than our younger posters want to look, but here's some examples of thicker socialites:

From the New York Social Diary:

Thanks for the pictures classic 1908. I wonder what designers Arnot and Gubelman wear? I'm shorter, but built rather like Marjorie Gubelman Raein.

I don't know what Ms. Arnot wears, but I've seen where Mrs. Raein wears Akris (which goes up to 18), Oscar de la Renta (I've seen some 20s when they trickle down to Off Fifth), maybe Bill Blass and Carolina Herrera (have seen 18s few and far between). She's also a "friend of the house" of some designers whose store offerings may stop at 14 (Michael Kors comes to mind).

There are also pics of MGR at Style.com.

Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that (probably on this thread) that Oscar goes up to size 20 but didn't know about Akris, whom I love. Does "friend of the house" mean that she would be able to get her clothing made in special sizes just for her? That would be wonderful. I guess I just have to buy a plane ticket and head for New York for some good shopping!

I think "friend of the house" does mean demi-couture. MGR was the Vogue Shape Issue's "curvy" profile a couple of years ago, and seems to have a good attitude...she's got a ton of cash (heiress of the man who invented National Cash Register) and she said, "if you're going to get bigger, buy the right clothes and have fun!" or something to that effect.

I like her attitude! I know that since I have put on weight (mostly due to medication that I will need for the rest of my life) I put a lot more thought into my daily dressing. Heels or chic flats always. A handbag that makes me feel great. The best cuts and fabrics that I can find. And most important of all, a no apologies attitude. I am the size that I am, I love to look good and I'm not going to feel intimidated because I'm not slim anymore!
