yes exactly. They've just had some clothes in XL and I don't fit their XL as well :argg:
I have very big hips, and is very very hard to find something that fits beutifully on large hips, especially for everyday clothing. Expensive brands usually fits better but you can't waer top names everyday I guess

My hips and stomach aren't the same size - I have so many problems finding pants that fit properly both places. I'm usually not brave enough to look at the more expensive brands but maybe I should try

I rarely shop at the expensive stores, I am still a student and work part time. But let's say I buy one pair of trousers in winter and one pair in summer at a better shop, usually max mara. for the rest, I usually buy sweaters/top/skirt in different shops, since i find things that fit for that area, trousers are a different thing for me and usually I have to go in 'plus sizez' shops, which makes me feel a little mad actually. I guess why there must be 'plus sizes' shop, can't they do in XL what they do in XS ? i just don't understand this

It is very odd since more and more people are plus sizes

I usually end up with jeans or pants that fit at the hips and is too large for my stomach

i wonder if that girl "Whitney" from ANTM cycle 10 have got ANY modeling contracts?

This may be odd, but I could see Whit doing Marina Rinaldi. Marina's sizing is somewhat unusual: they correspond roughly from 10 to 24 (19 to 33). Carre Otis did Marina work, and I suspect she was a 10/12.

Speaking of Marina Rinaldi, have you tried it, Iphygenia? I would think it's probably readily available in Rome??

It's simply a case of aesthetic prejudice and a sense that larger women will eventually become smaller, so that argument goes that larger women don't want to invest in nice things. That couldn't be more wrong.

And to the youth issue, plus, particularly in department stores, has to be all things to all people, and I think because of that, youthful styles get short shrift.

Since I'm more of a ladies who lunch/classic dresser/sartorially conservative, I do OK in stores. I don't base my wardrobe with traditional plus retailers because their quality isn't what it should be. On the other hand, if I can get something at a trad plus joint for $20 or less, I'll spend the money.

is a size 10 already considered plus size??? that would actually scare me. I would guess that celebs like liv tyler and scarlett johansson would wear a size 10, and they are one of the very few women in hollywood, who don't look sick to me.

There are defintely some lines where 10 would be considered plus. Not long ago I picked up a top at Neiman Marcus (I wish I remembered the label) that was tagged 'size 6/large'.

My guess is that the theory is that if women cared how they looked they wouldn't be large, and therefore there is no need for "fashion" in large sizes. That, of course, is completely wrong ...

I wear a size 10, I've shopped for it in many many stores, and I can tell you categorically & definitively that it is NOT considered plus size by anyone, including Neimans--they don't have a separate set of sizing rules from the rest of the industry.

However, there are many stores that carry contemporary lines in size 8 and below only. Even some single-line boutiques don't carry size 10, it's special-order only. There is some variation by city--I believe in LA it can be difficult to find even a size 8.

Not sure about Liv, but Scarlett is curvy/petite. I'm certain she's nowhere close to a 10.

The reason you may see it discussed here is that we have both a 'curvy' and a 'plus' thread, but this one gets more traffic, so this is where people tend to chat more.

Your point is on point, even though we see some glimpses in the offerings of Salon Z as of late. I think, however, that Amanda Uprichard, Lewis Cho, Maiya, etc. would not do plus stuff if they didn't have a quality, upscale vendor such as Saks Fifth Avenue to sell it in.

I also think that Nordstrom's image and power helped Paige Adams-Geller to do Paige Premium Denim. This is one reason why I get frustrated at Neiman Marcus. They have plus on their Web site, but they need to return it to stores. They did NM Woman's Studio in the 1990s and pulled it out.

^ I didn't realize NM used to have a women's dept. Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall for that discussion ...

I agree, not saying it's a universal attitude, and I imagine Salon Z is doing rather well ... but it seems to be the majority attitude, and I've seen it expressed here as well.

It probably is true that many plus size women have gotten into the habit of spending more on accessories and less on clothes (not that plenty of size 0s don't do that as well). So that could be a challenge going forward ... just means the clothes need to be exciting I guess ;)

I could believe that Liv was a 10 because she is so tall. Scarlett may be "large" compared to other actresses, but she is very thin and curvy.

this is my exact problem. When I find a pair of pants that fit my waist, they don't fit my thighs. :/

Liv did seem bigger in the past. I wonder how her sister Mia looks now. I haven't seen Mia in some time.

I think Scarlett Johansson is gorgeous at 5'4", 36-23-35 (approx). And as Sir Mix alot would say:

"36-24-36? only if she's 5'3""

I have receipts from the Woman's Studio to prove it. It had nice stuff, particularly bridge sportswear. Admittedly, it was geared more towards a boomer/older customer than Gen-X. I've always dressed older than my age. :D

I'm a shoe/accessory person, but I don't know if I spend more because I get my designer gear at secondhand stores. For instance, I'm wearing some Manolo mules and carrying a Michael Kors bag that I bought at a consigment store.

^^^^ Yup. My hips and thighs are much much larger than my waist. Shopping for pants can be so frustrating. This is why I mainly wear skirts and dresses

I can't figure out skirts and dresses :ninja: I always end up looking pregnant so obviously I'm wearing the wrong sort. I've figured out I need to go for pencilskirts but what sort of dress suits a plussize who's larger on top and who wants to avoid the muffin top?
