I agree...but JHud and Jill are a hot mess
Also I find that I need to avoid shoes that cut me off at the ankle and most plus size women need to as well...it makes you look larger to me...keeping the foot open in the front helps elongate the leg and your frame. Jill seems to wear a lot of shoes with ankle straps....I don't think it is flattering to her...though she has nice legs and should show off one of her best assets.

I tend to agree in general about ankle straps, however Jill is wearing gladiator sandals and I feel that those sandals that have a strip on top of the foot running up the leg tend to give the impression of elongated leg, as though the leg starts where the strip does - at the toes! But that kaftan thing she is wearing...

I am a UK size 14,US size 10. I fit into the biggest "normal" size usually....I buy stuff from Zara and UK high street stores, but also from Isabel Marant,Rick Owens,Diane von Furstenburg,Day Birger et Mikkelson,Martin Margiela...

It really just means I have to shop around a LOT more.l often find one cute piece that just happens to fit in the strangest of little boutiques.

I can sometimes find stuff in the biggest size ranges (XL or XXL) from net-a-porter.com.I don't wear special "fat lady" clothes and I hate specific plus size lines because the clothes are to our bodies what orthopaedic shoes are to misshapen feet....practical,but not flattering.

Because my body is in proportion (kind of hourglass shape) I wear exactly what thinner people wear, just bigger! I don't do cleavage-baring/midriff revealing/drainpipe jeans etc.I know what suits me and what doesn't.

It is quite irritating that designers don't make bigger clothes.A lot of us wear them really well...I often get "oh that's great, where did you get it?" So it's not as if it would be negative advertising for the designer.

PLUS,there are more people in the world our size tha there are stick insects,so....

It is not only that they don't make bigger sizes;it is that the sizes they DO make are way too small!! I fit into a 14 from Topshop or River Island or Zara, size 10 jeans from GAP,but size 18 UK at net-a-porter????

Good luck in finding cool stuff:)

This is how I feel! I'm 5'8-9 and I wear Australian size 14 jeans and usually 14-16 tops.. but when I shop in Chile the clothes fit so much better, they are in Euro sizes.. So I'm anything between a 42-46.

I just hate how I can get something extremely cute at Target (target now accomodate stylishly for plus sizes here in Australia btw) that may be a size 12 or 14 but if I walk into the other chain-stores like Ally or even Sportsgirl their sizing is ridiculously tiny!!

^^
Right now, I'm sort of in a fallow period. I'm on Synthroid and high blood pressure medication, walking every other day and so my size could change, so I think I may confine my shopping to accessories and shoes for the time being. I do like a lot of the statements that are coming out for F/W 2008 because they are classic and close to my own wardrobe.

I think whatever clothing budget I may have will be a tailoring one.

Gotcha. Meanwhile, I have a Marjorie pic (SOURCE: NYSD.com) in the Hamptons at Simon Doonan's book party:

^ I love that dress  What a great look for Marjorie, thanks for posting. So laidback & flattering ...

And I had a post about tailoring, but tFS crashed on me ... I too will be having some tailoring done this fall ... one issue I've experienced in the past is that the garment is less flattering on me following the tailoring than it was when it previously fit  I've decided I need to be more persistent I guess & keep working with the tailor till it's right. Hopefully you have a good one all lined up ...

So where are you gals shopping lately? Any suggestions?

I've bought a lot lately. I had some very good deals, and bad ones as well. I got 4 beautiful handbags, some fantastic gipsy skirts, but as I said I had some bad things as well.
Did it ever happen to you that you buy something that looks fantastic on you, until you see it on pictures? I've bought two dresses, one is flowery, in a delicate pink i loved from the moment i saw it, and another one is a black dress that I thought would be perfect for easy going summer evenings cause it's cotton, so it's pretty informal,but...when I saw myself in pics with those dresses....I wanted to cry! The flowery one has a neck that makes my boobs seem even bigger than what they already are, and the black one has just two small black strings on the shoulders, and i look like a giant in this mini black dress.....so I believe it takes a long road to make up your mind on what suits you better. how do you decide in the fitting room if it really fits you? I guess I'm still on that stage that I would buy anything that fits, just because it does :/

^ Well, I think it's important to bear in mind that actually the camera does lie ... haven't you seen plenty of pictures of people you know & thought, I've never seen that person look like that  And remember that there are millions of women who've paid very good money for what Mother Nature was kind enough to give you for free ;)

this made me really LOL,thanks fashionista. I guess being at peace with yourself is the most important thing after all, I struggled a lot because i wanted to be one of those 'petite' classy beauties a là grace kelly...still I wish I had smaller arms at least ( I'm a size 48, 14 US I guess ) and what really irks me is that basically all shops ( especially in a little town like where i am ) carry till 46 ( 12 ) and you're lucky if you find anything, so i wonder does the world think that all plus size women are in their 60s? I'm 28 and I wish I could dress as a 28 years old girl

^ It is a real problem ... you might think about taking 'shopping vacations' a couple times a year to a city where you can have access to a better selection. Salon Z at Saks is pretty good ...

that could be good, sometimes I am in rome and look for things there, but basically what i am finding out is that is mostly the small forgotten shops that carry things in different sizes. Also Max Mara carries a wide range if sizes, although expensive their stuff is good

another thing that gets me crazy all the time is Zara. Can any of you girls fit in any zara clothes? Just curios cause I can't fit neither in their trousers nor shirts/sweaters ( i'm a EU size 46/48 ) and I love their stuff, at least aestethically wise that is just *my* style of choice

Zara doesn't work for me either. I'm a 44/46 on the top and 40/42 on the bottom (is that the right word  ) and I've never really found anything in Zara that works for me. The sizes seem very small to me

yes exactly. They've just had some clothes in XL and I don't fit their XL as well :argg:
I have very big hips, and is very very hard to find something that fits beutifully on large hips, especially for everyday clothing. Expensive brands usually fits better but you can't waer top names everyday I guess
