this thread is great! and i feel so identified with it...it's a relief, really, i tought that for some reason there was just a few of women with my problem, i tought of you guys on tfs all skinny and really fashionable. Shoping makes me so depressed....specially because i use to shop with my sister and my sister is very petite... she doesn't even try on clothes when buying and it usually fits her so well...for me it's juts a whole different story... i have to try on clothes and it usually doesn't fit, i have big breast, wich i hate, a non-flat midriff section, and i don't consider to be so big on the bottom, but shopping jeans it's so depressing, i don't ever find jeans. Zara jeans are so small and just trying them on makes me wanna cry... there's a store here called naf naf that recently have started to make "pluz size" jeans and that was so good, but i've gained a little weight recently so i'm scared to return there...anyways sorry for the speach but it was a BIG RELIEF to have found the thread and to read all those comments.. thanks you guys :)

I got this blouse in a different print, non-plus-size, but this is the one they have on the website, so thought I'd post it here. I thought the cut was very flattering ... it's also a bit minimizing.

One of my biggest pet-peeves is the manufacturers suddenly change something when it goes from a size 16 to "plus". Fortunately for me, I'm a 12-14 so I can shop in the regular department but am made to feel plus-size for some reason. But! Have you ever noticed that the same label's little black dress in sizes up to a 14/16 is exactly what you're looking for, but as soon as it jumps to the plus department side, the fabric has changed to something that looks like it would catch fire if you walked past a BBQ, and all of a sudden they've destroyed the simple classic shapes that you like and added these bloody awful ruffles on the thing, or stuck lace or ric-rac on it. Even the classic white shirt has some awful twist on it. Like WTF? You're carrying an extra few pounds, you don't live in a barn for cripes' sake! I mean seriously people! Will they ever stop making this horrible flowered crap? Gawd! friggin idiots!

wow. great post. i completely agree with this. I wear a 12-14 too and when i shop places im just like "gimme 2 more inches of fabric and i'll be good" i hate that dramatic jump when you leave the regular dept and go into plus size. i would rather just buy nothing at all!

^ Me too it drives me crazy. they should extend normal sizing to 16 especially for dresses because Plus Size is way to big for me and its usually so ugly.

I have been buying a lot of basics from Spiegel lately (summer dresses and stuff) and while the 14 is tight, the 14W is perfect! I always get my clothes tailored and hemmed etc. but with the "W" sizing, it's very minimal. 80% of their online catalog goes from size 2-18 and 14W to 24W. Oh, and there's no ugly polyester florals! Lots of jersey if you can wear it (you can wear anything with Spanx) and the Ponte knit is structured enough that I have no doubt it looks just as good in a 24W as it does in a 2.

^^
It's probably too "mature" for most posters here (I am nearly 45 and have a rather conservative sartorial bent), but Talbots Woman doesn't go to ugly polyester in its selections. I can find plenty of silk, wool, cotton and linen options there.

Some misses lines do go to 16-18.

I'm a size 0, 5'3 in height...very, very tiny. No boobs, 32 inch hip...I've been told I resemble a 13 year old boy! This isn't a problem when shopping for NEW clothes (except "petite" sizing bugs me and never fits) but I adore and lust after vintage!

Old Dior, Chanel, 20's flapper gowns, 30's tea dresses, 40's suiting, 50's evening wear...none of which could EVER fit me without massive tailoring that would ruin the garment since standards for silhouettes were "apple" or "pear" not "celery". So I suggest you ladies live out my fantasies and go to vintage shops or eBay and buy yourselves some treasures. I mean it, there are AMAZING pieces out there. Craftsmanship and quality mattered and were a given...no mass produced Forever21/Topshop trendy fall aparts.

As for me I'll just keep "window shopping" and buying things like handbags, scarves, and other "one size fits all" items :(

HAHAHAHAHAH
I believe some people are just meant to be heavy, elizabeth taylor gorgeous delta burke gorgeous, Missy elliot I liked her heavier.
I would much rather see a woman with meat then bones.
save the bones for the dogs.
this coming from a county girl

What annoys me is that all tops in "plus" sizes seem to be long and shapeless. It's like they assume that all people of a certain size are the
same shape (ie large all over). I can't wear tops without a defined waist and certainly don't look good in tunic tops that end at my butt.
I am hourglass curvy veering to pear and need very defined, fitted tops that nip in at the waist and aren't too long. Although I have recently
discovered that wearing a good belt to define the waist can help immensely.

I am a plus-size girl and i thought dresses would look so stupid on me..
But after seeing le blog de big beauty i thought the dresses look really good on her.
So i tried one and now i'm in love with dresses:p

Hi everyone,
I'm a fashion student from Germany and I'm currently writing my dissertation on accessories in the plus-size market.
There are no studies yet about this topic so I need to get the information myself.
Would you be able to answer 4 questions for me
That would be absolutely great:

Thank you in advance!!! :flower:

Thank you so much everybody who answered those 4 questions for me already!! :-D

Please keep taking part in my survey!!!! I'm happy and thankful for every single opinion!!

Merry Christmas!

This is so true, across the board in all "special size" offerings, and by special size, I'm talking of plus and petite. I'm so sick of these special sized offerings from designers that are 1/10 the quality of their contemporary lines. Silk pieces are re-interpreted into polyester, and forget finding cashmere...all you'll find is poly-blends. And the prints! Oh the horror!

I am special sized, and often wander the petite and plus size offerings of departments stores and am grossed out by the crunchy fabrics, poor prints, and ugly details. It's such a shame.

With the V issue that featured eds on plus size models, I have seen references to a similar issue of Glamour. I have done a search and scrolled through pages here. Does anyone have links to this issue and eds either here on tFS or another site. Thanks.

KellBellCA is SO right, pretty much all plus sized clothes I see look like they could be worn by my grandmother back in the days of Soviet Union. It's pain.
Why do manufacturers think that a girl who is plus sized will certainly have no sense of style?

I don't know if Glamour is doing a full out issue, but they do have a resident plus-sized columnist who does a little piece each month on a different fashion related topic. I don't regularly read Glamour, but last month it was on finding leather boots to fit calves, and it was a good article because lots of people have boot-calf issues (ie plus sized, regular sized, athletes, etc.)

Are you talking about Glamour UK? Because I'm skimming through the pages and can't find anything similar.
