Truly astonishing, Isner could barely walk and both were still firing aces! He seems like he's gonna go insane so probably best they've stopped, but wow - high quality play and Mahut restoring some pride to French sport Hope they both get the respect they deserve, I've never liked Isner but I love it when guys leave everything out on court and they've both been beyond spectacular.

Unbelievable match. I'm not sure any of us will ever see anything like this again.

Utter respect to both players. Isner looked in a state of delirium but somehow he was staying ahead and hammering his serve in. And Mahut's fitness is incredible. He looked so fresh at the end, and when he dived for that hopeless ball - what commitment!

Can any other major sport claim to require the levels of fitness needed to be a successful pro tennis player?

Was getting worried for the umpire at the end too! Imagine being sat there for seven hours!

^ditto miu_miu. i've never been much of a fan of isner or really the whole serving match stuff,but respect is due.

Here's one I took of Cilic on the practice court right at the start of the day. I was stood next to him when he was waiting to go on. To say he's tall is an understatement.

True EPIC match. I have admit at first and in the 20s-30s I really was thinking how ridiculously stupid this match was and I was zapping most of it but from the 40s-50s my interest came stronger and I really started rooting for even more records to fall.

I just can't believe I almost wiped that match away for FIFA WC. This guys at 40+ still were playing some incredible tennis and Mahut kept moving, jumping, diving all around the place.

I must admit as a great tennis fan I'm fully gratefull to have experienced such an EPIC match. In 2008 I experienced my first EPIC final with Rafa/Fed and that Mahut/Isner is the match of the century. I've just never seen crazy numbers like 200+ winners, 90+ aces or 300+ points in my life. Even the scoreboared blew off. What's even more shocking is the entire 5 set lasted more than the preceding 6h33min match in RG. Just insane !

^ when I saw the score at 54-54 for the fifth set I thought my eyes were failing me I then tried looking at the score board on the court and there was nothing. I just hope that bother players will take something invaluable from this match and that the winner doesn't do a bad performance in their next match.

Well no one can question their fitness, I'm sure even they couldn't believe what they were doing we'll have to see them today to see what impact last night had on mind and body...and they're both due to play doubles today as well!

Crazy, but exciting and great for tennis!

I guess in future a player can't blame retiring from match due to tired legs or something along those lines

a 7hr match and it was only 1 set-that they didnt even finish
the match will be 3days long today thats just outrageously great tennis

the Queen is going to be in for a show!!
