^lol ooh well they would cut to other matches but they were covering it pretty well considering all the other matches going on

Aaand it's in the 60s! I was just thinking how devastating it will be for the guy who loses.

This is deadlocked...Isner seems way too tired and heavy to move and have any impact on Mahuts serve, but because he can still bomb aces seemingly at will, Mahut can't make much of a dent either. Still can't believe this.

Oh Mahut! He's devastated...
But awesome from both, just astonishing...

Wow, it's finally over at 70-68!

Both players are absolute warriors. :muscles: I must admit I wanted Mahut to win. I'm not particularly fond of Isner's brand of tennis. Poor Nicolas looked devastated but he still had to stick around for the presentation of mementos (and an interview with John Inverdale :yuk: ). Nice to see they gave something to the umpire too. :)

A couple more pics I took at the practice courts.

Rafa looks so unassuming when you first see him. May it's because he's wearing a cap instead of his bandana. The Radwanska sisters were watching him practice and so were about 200 other people. I was just marvelling at his forehand technique. His practice partner gets a good workout.

Henin was on the next court over which you can just about see from the end of the gangway but you can't get near without a press pass.

Alizé looked a lot happier here than I'm sure she did the next day when she lost her first round match to Olaru. She's really struggling right now.

what a great story this is for tennis and especially for wimbledon. to have something so historical like this occur at the most prestigious major...perfect,imo. and it's so nice to see two players genuinely battling it out without antics or egos....just playing and fighting.

i agree though. i was rooting for mahut and to tell you the truth john was very lucky nico hit a ***** there with his serve because john was barely hanging in there physically. today nico was actually playing a bit better on the returns than john was. yeah i'm not much of a fan of john's style of tennis either...never have been. even though he's got a tad more dimension to his game than karlovic,he's still no cilic or del potro.

great shots, chaky! yeah i would imagine the bigger names one would have a much more difficult time going near.

btw,sad to see zheng jie go out to kvitova. rezai and hantuchova also lost. the latter a bit surprising considering her past performances at wimbeldon. however for rezai she played a very tough zakopalova.

Don't know how to describe it really, but this Wimbledon has been so engaging from the start - seems like every match has been tough, can't predict the outcomes at all, can't underestimate any opponent.

Rafa had a tough match just now but he played well throughout so I wasn't too worried :D I love that pic Chaky, it's always amazing to see him in person

And Scott, I think what I loved most about the Isner Mahut match was what you said, no antics - a couple of tough line calls but really no fuss, just guts. I really, really hope Mahut can do more during the rest of the season - I can't imagine how upset he is but with the fullness of time I hope he can look past the loss and see what an epic achievement it was. Maybe Amelie can work with him :woot:

Trying to catch as much of Wimbledon as I can. Managed to see quite a lot of the match that there was quite a lot of. Well done to both Isner and Mahutt. Phew feel tired just thinking about it.
I really enjoyed Djokovic and Olivier Rochus on monday......Rochus is like a little terrier who won't give up.
I'm pleased that both Roger and Rafa have been tested early on...Wimbledon always throws up some great matches in the opening rounds.
Thanks to everyone who posts info here:flower: and great pics chaky.:D

Rafa was pushed but not as much as Roger was. But I'm so tired of people doubting Federer again; apparently, now begins the end of his era.

^i agree. i've never seen so many dramatic early round matches amongst top players as it has been here.

does anybody know what happened between sveta and rodionova? there was an awkward moment there at the end where sveta refused to shake her hand? did anybody see the match? that's not like her.

but yet again, another disappointing performance from sveta.

Rodionova's attitude caused that attitude from Kuzzie. Rodionova faked a medical time out and also was constantly arguing the calls anway she fully deserved her victory because in the 3rd set she really brought it to the Russian.

Great performance from my 2 favs Vika and Maria. Such a shame Maria finally playing well in a GS in 9-10 months will have to play Serena in the 4th round. :(

I totally missed Sveta's loss but they did show match point and I noticed she refused to shake hands, shame about the result & how it ended.

And Anna Chakvetadze, brutal

Regarding Roger, I don't think his era is over, you can never count him out but I don't think that we will go back to a time where he is completely dominant again. Doesn't mean that he won't win more slams, or be number one again...but since the end of last year his results have not been consistent or spectacular, barring AO. I also don't think that players are afraid of him anymore, I bet all the guys on his side of the drawer saw the Falla match and thought they would take their chances against him.

Anna! :(:cry::doh:

That was just devastating from Serena. Anna is just starting to show that she might be on the long climb back up the rankings. I hope this doesn't dent her rather shaky confidence.

I was pleased to see the crowd getting behind Anna so she avoided the double bagel. Probably why she was able to leave the court with a smile and a kind word for Serena rather than in tears.

And with these other amazing early matches, it just seems like there's a lot of talented, lowly-ranked players who are just going out there with no fear and bringing their A-game. It's great to see. I agree with miu miu, it's made this Wimbledon really captivating.

well monday is the big popcorn match....kimmy vs. juju!! their last matches have been highly competitive so i have high hopes for this one. too bad it's a R16 rather than a quarter or semi.

too bad about kleybanova. she made venus work a lot harder than previous but just could not take that extra step when it mattered. i thought when she got up 3/1 in the first set perhaps it would go the distance but she just couldn't get a consistent read on venus' serve and started having trouble with her own.

Another hard practice for Rafa.

All the boys were watching the Kirilenko match on Court 7. Maria and Stefanie Voegele split the first two sets and then both went off for bathroom breaks. After they were led away through the spectators in the public gangway, I overheard a guy next to me say to his mate, "I just touched Kirilenko!" He'll dine out on that story for a while.

Yeah it's too bad they're not seeded higher as both look in good form. Just hope this match gets scheduled at a good time on Monday, i.e. when I'm home from work.

Roger had an easier match today. Perhaps the earlier struggles are setting him up nicely for the rest of the tournament. And Mahut was there supporting his dubs partner - lucky for them their match got cancelled from the schedule.

Not so good for Isner who got thrashed by De Bakker. Incredible John didn't serve a single ace in the match!

^and when i'm awake! i've missed all of kim and justine's matches this week because they were on so early. hopefully they'll have jelena and venus' matches earlier on for a change just so other time zones will get to see this one at a more reasonable hour.

ugh....flavia lost! what a chance she had with her standing....definitely getting easier and easier for serena. li na could be dangerous but honestly i just don't see anybody really threatening her.

wow did rafa get out of trouble or what? not sure how i feel about that medical timeout though

Another 5-setter for Rafa. I wonder if that will have worn him down enough to make him vulnerable next week? And Rafa was not pleased in the slightest to get that warning for coaching. Did you see his face when he pointed at the umpire?
