The Vegetarian & Vegan Thread

just wanted to say that the stuffed tofurkey was a hit! It was mainly my mom and I who ate it, but I made my cousin have a bite and she said it was pretty good and my sister thought it was good. Instead of going back to the store my mom bought a dry package of brown gravy and I made it (mix it with water in a pan on the stove top). I ate tofurkey leftovers for the rest of the week it was seriously that good^_^

yay bonchic

I've really got to try this tofurkey stuff...I think i've had the tofurkey rashers before?

I'm so happy you liked it! I ate about 80% of a Tofurkey between Thursday and Saturday. I have another one in the freezer -- I don't know how long I'll be able to restrain myself!

Is that a disease? LOL
Tofurkey Rashers? heh???
Does anyone have recommendations on a way to stay slim while being a vegetarian?
I think I am pudgier than before..but don't want to just eat tomatoes and lettuce...

^ To achieve a healthy weight, all you need to do is exercise and eat right! :flower:

I am slowly becoming a vegan since a horrible event this weekend (related to a puppy's "death"). I have cut out ALL meat from my meals. I still take dairy products and eggs.

It's very hard. What I basically do is still eat the same meals my mom prepares but I don't put meat in my plate. For lunch time I only eat salad.

It's not easy, but meat has become very disgusting to me... Especially red meat....

Seafood is going to be hard to quit, but I'll do all I can!

I don't eat red meat, chicken, pork etc. Just fish a few times a week, and mainly at dinner.
I might go back to the salad at lunch thing. I always wonder if I am missing nutrients.

I found turkey rashers this weekend! I know it's not vegetarian but I still do eat some poultry and seafood. Anyway, I was really excited to find turkey bacon finally here in the UK.

That's like me.. I get the frozen wild salmon filets (they're package individualy) at the grocery store and try to eat that a few times a week. I guess I'm almost to the point of being a vegan. I just need to finish cutting out breads, etc.. But I occasionally have ezekial bread or something like that (I've been eating some corn tortilla chips the past few days, hopefully it's just a monthly thing:p ). I only drink green tea and water too^_^

That sounds good. I definitely make healthy choices in other things I eat. Even soda and ice cream. I try to make sure it is organic etc. Have you tried the vital choice salmon? I heard it was the best, been wondering how it is. I think the web is www.vitalchoice.com
It seems convenient.
I love cupcakes too much to give up. Though, I had a strawberry shortcake at Teany, in NYC ( moby's tea shop)...seems like everything is vegan..except the whole milk for coffee..

i've been wanting to go to teany!! can you share a review?:woot:

I've never been to Teany, but I heard it's pricey. There are much better Veggie places in New York...like Kate's or VP2!

i am looking for recipes with mainly asparagus or yellow beans.... all steamed. :flower: something really tasty, and non sweet...

Re: Teany: The tea, I have to say is the best. I get the regular earl grey. For the organic tea, and experience. I'd say it's worth it. It's 3.50 a pot of tea, and they will give you extra hot water if you ask. If you are hungry, go for the "teany tea for 2" and they give you 3 tiers and 2 pots of tea. The first tier is mini tea sandwhiches, you can choose which you like. I like the branston/cheddar, cucumber/butter, veggie ham/cheese...and pinto bean spread/tomato. The second tier is 2 scones. The top tier is bite size petit four cakes. It is alot of food and a good deal I'd say. It is about 22 bucks.
They have soups, really yummy salads, awesome oatmeal with apples and cinnamon, yummy sandwhiches.
The tea alone is so smooth. The gunpowder green tea is amazing too.
The weekend gets really packed. During the week it is decent and I often see Moby there.
They have a Teany To Go next door now too.
If you have time during the week, in the afternoon, it is really nice.
I also think the fruit salad is soo yummy, they serve it in a teacup with raspberry sauce drizzled over it.
They also have really good ice cappucino's.

Before anyone changes diets drastically or starts taking vitamins it is always best to see a nutritionist. They know what they're doing and can give you good information within one or two meetings.

They can give you vegan recipes for things that your body needs so you wont have to take many vitamins and such.

Are you not into roasting them?
I like steamed asparus, with rosemary crushed over it and lemon.
A little olive oil too. Don't over cook, tastes gross and mushy...
What are yellow beans? Do you mean navy beans? The big whitish yellow one's you see in italian dishes.

Kimkhuu, also crush the rosemary over the asparagus before you steam.

sounds delicious! I. Must. Go!

good advice Celine, I do think it's important for people to consult with a nutritionist before just going off and becoming vegan. Just to understand what nutrients their body may lack.

I am always craving Kate's No-Turkey Club sandwich. I need to plan an eating trip to New York. I miss the good food. Harder to get it here in Michigan.
