The Vegetarian & Vegan Thread

I can't say that I'm surprised either. It's cheaper, so I know that's why they do it. Still, there are a lot of vegetarians out there, and once people find out about this, I bet it'll make them stop eating their products. So in the long run, I wonder if taking the cheaper way out is going to hurt them?

probably not. far too many people don't care. i doubt there will be a gigantic uproar. if you do your best to get the word out and there's public protest, maybe, but i doubt it. spread the word, don't buy the products, that's the most you can do.

What an idiot. A less strict vegetarian is okay with eating rennet? No way! II mean, I don't really eat those products any more but I did like the dark chocolate bounty and it really upsets me that they'd disregard the millions of vegetarians out there. Do they even realise that there are millions of people who don't consume slaughtered animals for religious reasons? I'm just so so so disappointed.

^ I am too! It really upsets me. I am a big fan of Peanut M&M's as well as Mars bars. Guess I can't eat them anymore!!!

wow, i'm shocked! I also enjoyed M&M's and Bounty bars every once in a while and I had no idea that they are made by the use of rennet. I'm so annoyed that nobody seems to care except for us vegetarians. i mean the choice of food is already limited because lots of foods contain animal products like gelatin etc. i'll definitely avoid their chocolate in the future!

They weren't made with rennet but they are now. If you're interested there's a petition online if you just search for masterfoods rennet on google.

This is the reason as to why I stay away from snacks other than raw nuts and pretzels, you never know what is in these candies.

Wow. I really had no clue. This will help me to lay off the candy at least!

lots of religions would care. jews, hindus and muslims come to mind.

Yeah, I mostly eat snacks like that too. Though I eat the occasional candy bar when I get a big chocolate craving. I'm going to have to switch over entirely to a different brand now.

A sufficient source of protein? It's hard to not get enough protein. Most people get too much.

http://www.vegsoc.org/info/protein.html

For example, this is what I eat in a typical day.
Morning: Muesli with soy milk
Lunch: Baked beans on toast
Evening: Pinto bean nachos with guacamole

Well she hates beans, cheese, milk, nuts, and pretty much everything that has a good source of protein. I'm not really sure about the details, but the protein near her heart (or something) started to decay which led to her heart stop functioning possibly, so her doctor is making her drink a lot of smoothies with protein mix in them.

Wow, that sounds like a good sign. Just wondering how long it would take for them to reverse the receipe. Not that I have any plans to eat a masterfood candy bar any time soon but just in case....

Question for the vegans ... Right now I eat an organic oat cereal w/ organic milk & fruit for breakfast, but I would like to cut back on dairy. Somehow all of my favorite breakfasts involve dairy  What are your favorite non-dairy breakfasts?

TIA :flower::heart:

Couldn't you just replace the organic milk through soy milk? The taste would only be a little different but you could still eat the cereal.

You know what scares me? Human beings and excess. And by excess, I mean things done without necessity. The fact of the matter is that there is absolutely no need for rennet in anything. But we live in a world obsessed by profit and profiteering.

I went vegan for a little while and it wasnt that hard, you can get anything soy. My only problem was going out to eat (cheese is in everything!) and ben and jerrys.

Forgot to mention ... I am a supertaster & picky about the way things taste. :innocent:I find that it's better for me to eat something else altogether rather than try to substitute. Also, I don't want to add soy to my diet because of the estrogen effect.

^ Are you looking for alternatives to milk or replacements?

I just found out today that I am allergic to dairy! I guess that was the shove I needed to go totally vegan, but I don't like soy milk or rice milk.
