Tie-dye Is Everywhere!

I   Japanese Shibori dying- you may have seen very old kimonos made through this techniques- such a time consuming process- that can be ruined very easily if an mistake is made. It was even outlawed at one point because it was considered "too luxurious" As if that's even possible!

I love how the tied-up fabric looks llike some sort of jelly fish before it is dyed--

And then it turns out like this - they look like jelly fish, too- amazing. But there are millions are variations- Shibori gallery
That is SO COOL! :woot:  I especially love the picture of the tied-up fabric.

I can't wait to see the picture of your work!

Yeah- It worked- the yarn is Xtra fine unspun silk^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I would give you more but my camera will not turn on

I have some pics from photo-shoots that I'll put in the lookbook eventually-

Here is a batik print that I found on my computer from one of my dresses --it is made from small pieces whip-stiched together---

I was wondering if the C&C Kaleidoscope tie dyed short sleeve tee comes in Navy (or like a royal blue & white)?

Ive seen them (online... they dont sell C&C here in boring IN) in fushia/white, yellow/white, turquoise/white & black/white. Im just wondering if maybe the black/white is just showing up on the computer as navy bluish/white?

Also does anyone know of a store that might have the short sleeve black/white or navy/white (if it exists) that I could call to get one from since I cant find one online anywhere?

Thanks for your help. :flower:
Tiffany

The black/white combo actually is more like a dark blue...its not just your computer. I saw them at Nordstroms and Bloomingdale's!

So according to my friends' sister, who works with fabrics, tie-dye fabrics have been very popular with designers and should be seen more frequently next season?

I was not inclined to believe her until I started seeing Tie-dye stuff from C&C and Michael Stars...

Examples:

Michael Stars

C&C

I'm hoping this doesn't get big, but apparently some big fashion house bought a bunch of tie-dye fabric from whatever company my friends' sister works for...

I've never been a fan of tie-dye and I really hope this doesn't become "huge"...

What do you all think about the likelihood of this becoming a trend...and if it did...would you wear it?

Ehhhh tie dye is alright as long as we don't get into crazy rainbow colors. Two complimentary colors can be nice. I really can't say though if I think it'll be a trend.

Ok, so this was merged, but the original thread wasn't QUITE what I was referring to - they're talking about Ombre...and I was speaking about err..the more traditional form of tie-die...with all the proper ring or striped patterns, but that's ok. :)

this is our general topic on tie-dye and we are discussing all possible tie-dye techniques. It's so much better to keep all our topics together, keeps FS tidy

I'm consulting a big fabric print/manufacturing company and i will agree with your sister, tie dye is already huge in Europe and will only get bigger -including for winter 04.05-, thanks mainly to Miucia Prada and her obvious love for traditional 'craftmanship' techniques

I see ombre definately getting big, and then perhaps the more "hippy" tie dye following as a cheaper more identifiable alternative

big up!! Gotta love my girl Miuccia. GREAT collection from her for s/s '03. The dip dye is the only way i would wear any sort of 'tie-dye'

I think tie dye can be really cool when done properly.

I have a navy and white tie dyed skirt that is knee length and a-line and it's really cute with silver sandals and a couple of white camisoles layered.

White by Development also made a tie dyed dress with smocking at the top that I thought was really neat.

I do not like the longer tie dyed skirts or tie dyed ponchos or anything like that, but when the color is kept to a minimum and the pattern isn't too wild, I think it lends a really interesting look.

I know...I was just afraid it might get lost! LOL. I don't mind at all.

It wasn't my sister, it's my friend's sister, but she predicted it, and I was hoping it wouldn't come true, but it seems she was right! I've never been a fan of (traditional, vaguely hippieish) tie-dye, which is sort of why I'm cringing at the idea of this becoming a trend...to me, it's sort of like the LV Murakami...if this gets big and I see it everywhere, I'll get so sick of it. LOL.

C&C already has a shirt out that I hate...the colours are ghastly. :P

I loved the Ombre trend, though...but that's a much more subtle form and it's beautiful...not quite so jarring, especially with the colours used with the ombre trend...

i saw lots of hippy tie dye while on vacatation and i got two absolutely amazing t-shirts with a strange 'unique' tie-dye technique made in India, i may try to make some pictures of them, since i havent seen this technique around

this C&C t-shirt is really  the colours are so flat together , boring

First rasta, now tie dye....
Are designers just really getting into weed?

Anything based off this has got to be bad

 you bet they are, mr Galliano seems to be leading the way.

this is certainly NOT the kind of tie-dye the hippies were wearing over here,
this is only for boring office clerks on a wild day

neo-hippies are very radical and tribal , they really have great taste

ah...so tie-dye's not so dead afterall :P

i loved the more muted shades of tie-dye from Prada and Sophia

but i also kind of like the one that guys wearing... the green/purple one :P
