Looks way to dark to be Alice in Wonderland. But it's Tim Burton.
And since when is the Mad Hatter a main character..
I thought it was called ALICE in wonderland.
Not JOHNNY DEPP STARTS AS THE MAD HATTER in Alice In wonderland..

but you forget the actual book had a lot of dark elements and undertones. listen,it's a very bizarre story with strange sequences...and evil,a la the red queen. it's not all walt disney flowery. as far as johnny depp..well he's the bigger actor in this film and his presence will most likely generate more interest. nothing wrong with that. but there are no stars ultimately because this is more an ensemble seeing as all of these characters are main characters. granted the story surrounds alice herself but i feel it's her interactions with all of the characters that render it more ensemble.

i agree with you hebden that it seems a hodgepodge....but interpretation, imo, doesn't necessarily mean literal takes on a story and such. he's obviously taken bits from the books and created a new storyboard. which is kind of interesting, really. i mean if i wanted just a film adaptation(which i never heard or read this was being called)i would just read the books and allow the images to conjure in my own mind. this to me is much more refreshing.

I love Alice in Wonderland! Can't wait to see the new version.
PS.cuiviénen, that Cheshire cat smiley.
PSS. I love the Queen of Hearts from animated version, the new one is weird.

I thought Stephen Fry was supposed to be the Cheshire Cat...does this mean his face won't appear? :( Boo...

Looking forward to it all the same.
Alice is one of my favorite books and eternal inspiration. The reason I studied philosophy!

OT, but has anyone seen the Jan Svankmajer interpretation of Alice?
It's pretty amazing.

Tim even commented on the fact that there are numerous Alice stories and each one different to the rest.It has a dark tone however its not just Alice,he wants it to be more of a story rather than a series of events....stories that haven't been in the Walt Disney productions ones that haven't been told, after all....there are so many to tell.:)

Eek, I can't wait to see this! I mean Depp, Helena Bonham, Hathaway, directed by Tim Burton?? Can't get any better! The costumes and previews look amazing :woot:

I believe he just voiced the cheshire cat, I don't think he will appear personally. It's going to be strange hearing a different voice!

For some reason I had always assumed Stephen Fry's disembodied face would be grinning atop a tree :p.

Lovely clip Belowen, brings back memories. I much prefer old Disney.

I wish Helena Bonham Carter looked more like herself, cause I just love her looks..I think she's perfect.
I'm so excited about this movie. Hope it's better than Charlie and the chocolate factory

I'm a bit confused now, is the movie based on both the Alice books or just the wonderland one?

^aparentely the movie is based on both: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass

Sorry for the rant but I'm fed up with beloved books from my childhood being ripped apart by Hollywood...

I totally get what you're saying, I feel the same way. Not about this movie in particular, but with movies in general! One thing about this movie though, I was really hoping for a dark-haired Alice! Hehe, oh well...
