Aha! Saw the finger-in-mouth advert for real (in UK HB April 2008 pgs 19-21) and it works quite well in the context of flicking the pages, because of the impact of the close-up on the face, and the meatiness of the hand. It's on a different scale to every other ad, it's more up-close and in-your-face, and you can see the light shining off the hairs on the back of his hand.
In magazine context, for me, it works much better than in these scans.
