Not every family can afford one at a price tag of up to $200,000 but actor Tom Cruise says he bought a sonogram machine for his pregnant fiance Katie Holmes so that they can monitor the development of their child.
In an interview with ABC's Barbara Walters to be aired on a November 29 television special about the "most fascinating people of 2005," Cruise said: "I'm going to donate it to a hospital when we are done."
A sonogram machine, which uses ultra-sound to look at a fetus's development, can cost between $150,000 and $200,000, according to People Magazine which published excerpts from the interview on Wednesday.
Cruise said he did not know the gender of the child but said if he did, he would not reveal it. Walters then asked him, "So what do you see?" and he answered "a little baby." The couple revealed last month that Holmes, 26, was pregnant and in the Walters interview, Cruise said, "We are going to get married in summer or early fall. We don't have a date set yet."

I'm scared..... I mean it's nice and all to want to moniter your child, but to go out and buy a $200,000 machine?? That's what doctor appointments are for. When the child is born, is he going to have a chip implanted in the baby and as it gets older watch it's every move like one of those maps with the red dot indicating where the person is? :o Ok a little far fetched here, but um..yeah.

I definetly wouldn't doubt it, after all; he did put a gps system in katie's phone

He is just a plain wacko...

I think you hit the nail on the head, unfortunately....

But I thought echographies (same things as sonogram thingies, right?) were dangerous? If I recall correctly, if you do it too often it can be a threat to the baby's health and cause tumors.

:o Tom will stop at nothing

Now that Michael Jackson is exiled on a island somewhere in the Middle-East, Tom bravely put his dignity aside to take on the title of the new official Hollywood nutcase.
So sweet of you Tommy.

That kid does stand as much chances in life as the Spears' boy.

I know the following sounds harsh but.... this is going to be one screwed up child. :ninja:

Doesn't echographs or echograms deal with water and sound waves???

^ I thought it was like taking a "radiography" of the child or something, no?

^ I think we're both as confused as we can be . I think... radiography deals with radiation and sonograms/sonographs use energy waves or pulses- both use for medical purposes. Echography deals with water (distance/depth and echos).

i don't think it's that wierd. many couples go to the hospital to see the development of their child in that way, it's really common. he just happens to be able to afford to buy the machine. at least it is a very wanted baby.

Wow. Just when I thought I heard everything. I mean, really, that just sounds so icky and occult-like,it's not even funny. Have they even got their own private doctor from the Scientologists Centre to come round?
