I used to like vintage, and it makes sense to recycle and all that, but sometimes I feel that it is done for the sake of fitting in. I have seen some dreadful ensembles passing as vintage, absolutely terrifying frocks, shoes and accessories. I also don't understand why something from the 1980's ought to cost so much either, especially some polyester secretary dress that even my grandmother wouldn't have worn the first time around. Vintage stores must be having a field day ripping the less experienced folks off. I feel bad saying this, and I do have a lot of friends who love vintage, but the trend itself is starting to feel contrived. And this is a shame, because in theory it ought to be great. I guess it's like everything else: when a subculture or fad takes off to mainstream levels it always causes this weird kickback. It makes us uncomfortable, I guess, and I can't work out why.
