UK Vogue December 2015 : Karlie Kloss by Patrick Demarchelier

I would have much preferred if they had based the cover on her editorial. The goldish tones with a metallic masthead would have made a much more elegant festive cover.

I am a bit disturbed (well surprised) the cover and the edit are so different ! The latter is better I think, even if usually I am not a fan of golden satin gowns, it looks good.

I'd hoped the Karlie edit would have been more glamourous than it turned out to be. I like the gown and the MUA on the cover, but Karlie looks sloppily made up in the finished product. It's too bad she wore some gorgeous gowns, but I can't look at the photos without wanting to run a comb through that messy hair! :furious:

I've got my issue, had a quick browse, but really couldnt be bothered. God, why is the fashion content so lifeless??? The cover belies the content, tbqh. Something glossy, with a hint of fantasy wouldnt hurt. Are their readers not interested in that? Karlie's edit is ruined by her bad hair, but even with that remedied, the rest still looks so stiff. There's no chemistry between her and those guys. Then we get to Lexi and Grace, looking bored. We see this type of messy styling every month, certainly could do without it for December. I dunno why, but Jackson's b&w shots looks a lot like Luchford to me. Then it's a bunch of Saint Laurent-esque waifs lounging around in a country home, and an edit which washed out the glam holiday looks with it's clarity. Not one of the girls could be bothered to crack a smile.

are the articles interesting at all? honestly that's the only tiny thing this magazine has that saves it these days

I bought this the other day, and haven't looked at it yet... lifting it from pile of other papers... yes, it doesn't seem to have the appearance of a bad issue, as it's fairly big, at 326 pgs, plus that supplement.

Speed-flicking through the pages, it feels like most of the features amount to product shots for present-buying inspiration, until you get to the editorial section, which starts with the Karlie article, which seems dull to me, then another editorial, and then a long feature where people reminisce about getting ready for parties, and "the nights they can't remember". It strikes me that, if there's one theme that Kate Moss is perfect for, it's probably that one, and there's little sign of her in the magazine.

Then a look at Derek Blasberg, and interviews with four female authors who recount their experience of having a successful novel, which - for me seems the most fascinating article. Then some shots of jewellery, a posh person's garden, and something about perfumes. The subsequent beauty section is no different than normal.

Like many others, what I'll say about the issue - if you like the articles, in no way does that really compensate for the lack of fashion photography. There just aren't enough interesting images in the issue. It's more like a big catalogue featuring stocking fillers that cost a year's wage, than it is a fashion magazine that celebrates the party season, where people do want to get dressed up and go to town with everything they wear. The issue feels like a missed opportunity. The fun starts and stops with the front cover.

Ah well, roll on January.
