UK Vogue December 2017 : Adwoa Aboah by Steven Meisel

Had to say that this is a nice cover! Not really care about the model but I can say I like it!

This reminds me so much of Vogue Italia 1971 cover with Carol LaBrie.

It does look like retro early 70s Vogue Italia, but Meisel has recycled everyone's work for decades so no real surprise.
I like Adwoa. She can evoke the same sophistication of the best models from the 70s if styled and photographed in the right way.
Even though the layout is not much and the image is deliberately harking on past decades, it still looks fresh.
What's that old saying? Never throw anything out, it will be back in fashion in ten years anyway. Or something like that.

We need something to make us dream. Period.

Yes, this is very retro and everyone here can list 20 vintage covers this emulates, but I applaud the glamour. It's the cover that reminds me of why I stick with magazines. I have never been Edward's biggest fan, but this gets me excited for what is in store for Vogue UK.

It is rather interesting that the center silhouette in Shulman's piece in October for BoF (where she allegedly took a swipe at Enninful) is reminiscent of this Vogue cover.

Meisel makes magic! Nobody can do wrong in front of him. This is probably one of the best shots I've been of her. Thank you Edward!

It seems that I’m the only one here don’t like the cover.

I like that there's no gimmick, just a plain o' beautiful picture that keeps you staring at it.

Totally agree!

@ellastica I don't think Benn98 meant that they had used a specific cover and copied, but this could easily be a carbon copy of a "How to make a Vogue cover" recipe from the 60s-70s. The not-quite-white background, the position of the text, the model standing off-centre while posing sideways in colorful makeup & statement head-wear... It has all been done many many times before. When I first saw it on their website, I actually thought it was a vintage cover.

I'm dying!!! Please Edward, give him every single cover

It's strange to see the names of Kate and Cara on a Meisel cover  He refuses to work with both of them

Ah thanks for the clarification eizhowa :flower:

I suppose I'm quite fond of those carbon copied magazines :P I remember many years ago spending hours on fashionicongraphy admiring those tiny 60s, 70s covers of VOGUE bursting with so much color, optimism, energy and most of all Fashion!

Granted I don't devour fashion magazines the way I used to but I don't recall seeing any recent covers using this aforementioned VOGUE formula from that era? And what about today's formula?

^ with that said I'm SO not feeling the above editorial images

I was so not expecting straight up vintage glam. And it works! Adwoa, looks incredible and what a refreshing choice for Edwards new era of British Vogue.

The edit preview is classic Meisel, no surprise there. Everything considered, solid start!

Some people are bitching about the glamour, vintage 60s-esque vibes but seriously look at what Vogue Italia tries to bring the new "aesthetic", "innovative" things and I'm tired already. Let's praise and celebrate the new era of British Vogue without seeing trying-too-hard poses and pretentious photographs.

This is gorgeous. Can't wait to see more of what's inside.

Giving me vintage yet shock of the new vibes similar to when Liz Tilberis and Fabien Baron remade Bazaar. Brilliant calling card for the new Edward era and brings a sorely missed power and glamour front and center at a time that we could all use some fantasy and fashion magic to lift us up. And Meisel @ Vogue UK ?! MAJOR ALL AROUND. Bravo :important
