US Elle December 2010 : Jessica Alba by Carter Smith

the cover is soo irrelevant. The cover looks dead in the middle of summer(clothes-styling-background) her hair looks atrocious and she looks like she's about to cry.

the cover is good for a summer cover or at least August/September (since she is wearing Resort). What is going on in the Elle offices?

I suppose it's one way to set yourself apart on the newsstand - well, unless US Vogue is also going to produce a summer holiday cover, instead of a winter one.

I understand the idea of trying to remind people of sunshine and good times, but the moment to do that is just after Christmas, during the depressive days of bad weather. The time before Christmas is an opportunity for magazines to get dramatic with their covers, why waste that time doing summer fashion, when you'll be doing that for months ahead.

Unless - according to US Elle's calendar - snow is due to start falling around May, so we'll be getting mittens on the June 2011 cover.

The context and colour of this cover is grossly inappropriate for December.

I want something rich, sumptuous and spectacular for winter... this is simply bubblegum 'blah'.

I think the cover is nice and beautiful. They may have forgotten that it's winter, but who cares when you have such a sunshine?

Not a fan of Jessica Alba, but the cover is very nice. Great styling!!!! Wish US magazines would be more in sync with the seasons. This is obviously already promoting spring.

I'm so very perturbed as I read all of your comments... the cover is a Resort cover... they are trying to promote the Resort season. With soo many designers showing resort collections, they had to decide when to put some resort pieces on the cover and while I would have chosen... a solid November cover, or maybe even doing December but instead doing multiple covers with Resort copies being shipped to more tropical locales, they chose December.

I mean I HATED the cover because I got the subscribers cover and it was soo meh. What I hated more though was the gross advertisement wrapping the issue. I was very annoyed and my mother actually almost threw the magazine away thinking it was a catalogue.

Anyway, I am a bit curious about what is going on with Elle in terms of seasons as when I a was looking through the trend reports I was spotting Resort, Fall/Winter, and Spring/Summer. I mean as in Hairspray "I'm all for integration" but really??

Editorially, I'm normally dissapointed by Elle and this time I actually had two faves, so sort of glad about that.

The subscriber's cover is terrific. Jessica's editorial is beautiful and the photography compliments her so well. It's nice to be taken out of winter.
I love the styling in Maximum Overdrive! Lakshmi's editorial looks like something out of Vogue Paris! They've left me curious for Toni Praver's editorial.

Here's another newsstand cover:
