US Vogue April 2009 : Beyoncé by Mario Testino

You're not the only one, I'm with you 110%.
As a tall and thin gal myself, I feel like this tagline is favoring the full figured women and degrading the less-than-average-weight women as "unnormal" or "deformed". Yes, women have curves; but does that constitute a real woman. What happened to the notion of being happy in your own body. Just as curvy is a body type, so it being thin. Its ironic how the American public just likes to look down on the thinner types, accusing them as a bad influence on young girls and yet it's taboo to look down upon an overweight woman.
So I'm with you on that, Tinsley.
;)

As for the cover; I love it. It's very classic and simple and clean. I like her hair slicked back and the color of the dress looks wonderful next to her skin.
But I must say as much as I admire her for her talent and persona, she's no Sasha Fierce. That title is reserved for Sasha Pivovarova

I love your post and I was thinking the same. It's like you can't have thin and thick next to each other, one needs to be discriminated..
I used to know this girl who was pretty big and she always fell the need to call me too thin and unhealthy to feel good about herself..

Bout the cover, I don't like Beyonce, period. So yes the Sasha Fierce title, I agree it belong to Miss Pivovarova

Oh well...won't gonna chit chat about Miss B...

it's a decent cover but the background surely similar with Blake's cover

I like Beyonce, she looks nice here but US Vogue covers are mostly boring and it's tiresome seeing the same type of celebrities on every cover. They don't take any risks like the other Vogue's. At this point I think Elle does a better job but hopefully Anna Wintour will be gone soon.

i think its a decent cover.
The make up's good, her dress is questionable but works.
And Babyjane vogue isn't a magazine that take risks anymore you have to read Pop or Love which recently hit the self, let's not forget Dazed and Confused and iD.

am glad that most people think that this was long overdue...and a brilliant cover at that!! Heres to hoping that the ed is more risque...more on the fierce side!!!YAAAAAY!!!!

babyjane, there are other factors to take into consideration, especially for American Vogue.

for one - the country's market. each country has a different audience - we're not going to see boobs flaunted on AV's cover a la French Vogue, simply because it's AMERICAN Vogue, not French Vogue.

it's quite a shallow view to simply dismiss what Anna Wintour does just on the basis that it's "safe" and doesn't take risks. American Vogue is a gigantic, commercial machine, and she runs it smoothly and efficiently.

Anna understands her market, and she knows the business best. not everyone can be avant-garde or risk taking, and even if they want to be, the management aka Conde Nast will probably not allow it.

yes we can mock Anna's choice of cover stars, but the fact is that she's managed to run this huge machine very efficiently for the past 20 years and that is something not to be taken lightly.

The only complain I have about the cover is the darkness of it. I don't see nothing Spring/Summer about the colours.
Beyonce looks good, and it's a lot better than I expected.

same here, the colours are so dull, like it's the the end of the summer instead of the beginning

and about the cover choice, there have been a lot less "deserving" people getting the cover so compared to them it's about time she got one

US vogue is just not what it used to be, anyone can get the cover now so we just have to accept it for what it's come to be and not see it as the "honor" it used to be

I really like the cover, she looks gorgeous as always..

and I dont think people mind who's on the cover tbh...

well I am just waiting for what's inside.. I hope there's a good casting...:)

First of all I do respect your opinion and because I find it thought provoking I decided to quote it, but since when is the cover of Vogue or that of any magazine for that matter on equal footing with winning something of substance??? I love fashion magazines as much as anyone, and I too would love to see models on the covers, and I too find Beyonce incredibly boring and unoriginal but lets all get off our high horses and realize IT'S JUST THE COVER OF A MAGAZINE!! you don't need to find the cure for cancer to be worthy of it. I for one breathe a sigh a relief whenever it's not Gwyneth, Renee, or Nicole.
Thank you A.D.C. finally someone with a voice of reason, was shaking my head in disbelief reading some comments. My god tallk about taking this to freaking seriously. I love how mostly members that never have anything remotely nice to say about US Vogue as it is, and usually post comments about how awful.etc it is, are losing their crap because here is a woman that does not meet their standards of who should be on the cover. So like Luxx, i dont like this idea of constant "is she worthy to be on the cover" discussion either, we should move away from that.

If Anna knows her audience then she should know that no one is going to run away from a little variety, a little chance-taking. She seems afraid of to change it up even a little even on, let's say, one magazine a year. Even the inside editorials are mostly boring and safe. How about a couple of semi-controversial articles like Vanity Fair? The formula with Vogue changes as much as her hair style as in never! She seems more concerned with status than fashion. If it's working and selling great but for a regular reader, or shall I say former regular reader it's get boring and annoying. Thankfully there are a few other American mags picking up the slack. I particularly like W which regularly has a celebrity on the cover but still manages to occasionally be interesting and creative.

For a long time everyone complained that the same people kept appearing on Vogue cover. So far this year Vogue has put several new faces on its covers. I don't even like Beyonce but I think she is more deserving than the likes of Blake Lively or Kate Bosworth who really have not accomplished anything in comparison.

Hopefully, Kiera Knightly or Nicole Kidman don't have any movies coming out this year so we don't have to see them on the cover yet again.

When I open Vogue I want to see beautiful clothes and read entertaining articles. I don't need to see Lara Stone's breasts or whatever else constitutes "risk-taking" or "edge" in some people's opinions. W magazine has so little to offer in the way of substance I let my first and only subscription expire. I don't think Vogue needs to take any direction from W.

i agree with you. A cover with Sasha P wont sell as well as one with Lyndsay lOHAN...sometimes you have to face the reality and do whatever you can to survive. This explains why US vogue is still one of the most influential and successful magazines int he world. Many of the magazines that try to be different and stay high fashion fold after 5yrs. I ll admit it that I also get bored by the monotony of the eds at times..but at the same time the magazine is targeted towards both fashion fans and everyday people. The successful formula can be seen on its advertising revenue. We should remembe that the print media is being taken over by the web editors need to think

although i find beyonce the most boring artist ever....im glad that drew/keira or awful gwyneth isnt on that cover.

WHY Beyonce again?  Seriously...I do NOT have a problem with this woman as an artist or even as a model in various campaigns. But now she just annoys me. Way too over-used. Way too hard-trying to be (I dare to say this word relating to her) fierce :ninja: No, thanks.
Moreover, as said before, it is too dark for a Spring cover IMO. And the background looks exactly the same like in some issue before .. can't remember exactly which one (maybe with Gwyneth?) Anyways: not a big fan -_- But I'm waiting for the contents, as Vogue US is surprising me again and again in the last time with nice eds and an even nicer cast :)

Oh no. I hate all this hater talk. 9 Pages of nearly all negative comments. It is the thing I hate most about US Vogue threads :ninja:
I'm glad someone said this. I wonder how many people are just bashing Vogue US because it's 'cool' to do so? Honestly, Vogue US has really got it together this year.

Putting 4 new cover stars on this year? That's their way of taking risks.

Indeed! not to mention they're putting models on the cover next month. There has been some really good eds so far this year too, a lot of new models... can't wait to hear about the contents.

Blahh, exactly what I expected form Beyonce...So its the fourth US Vogue in a row that I wont be buying..
