US Vogue March 2007 : Jennifer Hudson by Annie Leibovitz

I simply don't understand Vogue's reluctance to use actual MODELS on their cover... particularly for the March issue which is intended to introduce the spring/summer collections. I get that celebrities sell, but Vogue is supposed to be for fashion and couture, and no one can really sell that better than the models. I'm especially disappointed since there seemed to be a huge hype for the "return" of the supers.

Cover specific... I just saw the British Vogue March issue with Daria on the cover (and this is following a super cover with Stam), and US Vogue just looks terrible.

Edit: scratch that... I just saw the cover of Vogue Italia, and THAT is a cover.

What it comes down to is that Conde Nast is about capitalism, not about fashion as an art form. Celebrities sell and make money for the Newhouse family. Hence, celebrities on the cover.

its like they decided that she just wasnt beautiful so there was no need for beautiful pictures
as an aspiring fashion photographer i used to someday want to see my pictures in vogue, these days im not so sure
by the way the oprah cover someone posted is wonderful

The cover is terrible and it almost plays out like a joke. It's like they purposely used the worst photo imaginable, just to punish her or something.

Although I dislike Hudson and the whole idea of the cover, a part of me wants to take a decent photo of her and put it on the cover of some high-profile magazine, just so I can do justice for her awful Vogue cover. lol.

...

This is so disheartening. I was so set to give this issue a try, but now I'm back to NOT wanting to buy it. I got caught up in the idea that Jennifer is someone completely new and different for Vogue, but then I realized that she is just as overrated and boring as many past cover girls.

It doesn't help that the cover shot is atrocious. I mean, a sterile grey backdrop didn't work for Julianne Moore, so why would it work now? Ugh. Why do Sandra Bullock, Drew Barrymore, and Keira Knightly get the fanciful covers while Jennifer is stuck in Dullsville?

Anna is winch, no doubt. But I can't blame the atrocious cover entirely on her. Annie took the pictures and Jennifer opened her mouth that wide. And if I recall correctly, ALT was the person in charge of the shoot. He dictated the whole thing. He has taken it upon himself to showcase Ms. Hudson and it backfired during the shoot. No matter how you feel about her performance in this ONE movie (which I have to agree with a few of you was an incredibly boring film) you cannot tell me that this newbie was ready for a cover of a fashion magazine. Let her get her feet wet in something like Cosmo or Elle first for heaven's sake!

I don't mind the cover at all, I've certainly seen worse on the cover of Vogue. Plus, it's the spring issue, a huge one at that. They will certainly have my $5.00! :buzz:

beyond our tastes of the cover...how was the last time american vogue featured an studio shoot for the cover....???i think they usually used location....any thoughts??

Hideous cover. American Vogue hasnt been anything fabulous for about six or seven years. This picture of her is pretty bad but the one inside with her saggy breasts is just disgusting and offensive. I'm with whoever typed they were going to use it as a tent.

all i can say is as soon as i saw the cover i got a flashback of ursula the sea witch from my Little Mermaid picture book
didnt see this earlier...probably the funniest post i've ever read on this board!!

i'm not gonna bother reading all of the negative comments on this board. everyone just needs to chill out and be glad it's someone new on the cover.

Okay, but is it too much to ask for a decent cover? I'm not going to support Vogue if this is what they do with new cover stars...or any cover star for that matter. The March issue is supposed to be bright, lively, and, well..."springy". Even something as simple as a white backdrop can go a long way (ie Linda Evangelista March 1994). I'm pretty sick of having to settle for Vogue's mediocre choices. And while I really wish I could have supported Vogue this month for choosing someone new, I'm going to spend my money on other magazines, and I will be glad about that! ^_^

I was so excited for this... the pictures are nothing stunning, but I'll be looking forward to the article and the other eds.

I still say the cover's OK. Not astounding, not very seasonal, but unexpected and a step outside of the comfort zone of the typical US Vogue cover. Vulgarity won't kill me, nor will the sight of natural breasts that comply with the laws of gravity - and next month, we might even get a model, at this rate.

WTF?!

That is an U-G-L-Y cover! The girl can't model for her life.

That is true, but did you forget- SHE ISN'T A MODEL!
I like Jennifer Hudson, and I always stick by people I like. I have to say the shoot is not her best shoot. Essence shoot is way better than Vogue's even GIANT magazine tops it! It is a bad look for Anna, I like that Jennifer Hudson is getting the last laugh but she could have been laughing harder if the shoot was hot!

Hehe! I agree. ^_^

honestly I prefer the Vogue cover where the girl looks happy (honestly this is just a big f*** from Anna to the anorexic contreverse) to this cheap and "bas de gamme" Essence cover.

that cover weakens my innards. why not iman for a power issue? her quest to raise morale for young black females is quite inspiring. anyone else miss amanda moore?

ok can we seriously get over this cover business, ive searched thorugh all the pages of this thread and not a mention of the content.:yuk: can someone please tell us what the editorials are like?

and just for the record i dont think its a big deal if hudson is the 5th r 6th r whatever black woman on the cover of vogue , does it really matter what colour she is? i thought that we are supossed 2 be discussing the clothes and photography?
so can someone tell me what the editorials are like?thanks a mill:heart:
