US Vogue September 2025 : Emma Stone by Jamie Hawkesworth

This is the cover of the recently published Vogue America September issue with Emma Stone. The actress is Louis Vuitton brand ambassadress. In terms of adv space, the whole issue has been bought by LV so if you buy it, you will spend your money for a Louis Vuitton catalogue. So probably nobody will but it.

Bigger is not better. Especially today. That is an image fiasco. Louis Vuitton's megalomaniac approach has become tiresome even before it has had any effect on the brand. It's too vulgar, but no one there understands it anymore. LV is like a Formula 1 car gone haywire. Someone is going to get seriously hurt. And this someone will be certainly the brand and its business.

i can't stand that woman (Nicoletti) and her "savior" "know it all" vibe...even if sometimes i agree with her...but her attitude is ruining it all...
 
I don't get why everyone act surprised when US Vogue does a blatant advertorial.. at least they still have more effort by commissioning Nicolas to create exclusive looks for the editorial. Unfortunately traditional magazines has to find a way to keep their advertisers happy. In this era they need to give more than they usually did years ago, or else the advertisers can just spend their money elsewhere (and probably get better ROI with digital advertisements...).

And tbh I don't get the hate with the cover! I've been reading the comments in various social media posts about this cover and people were like "I miss Grace Coddington...", "This magazine is dead without Grace" etc etc I was like.. girl.. this cover and ed is styled by Grace!!!

But I am under no illusion that anyone from Conde Nast gives one shiny sh*t about what I think. I may be someone who still believes in the importance of print, but I am also NOBODY in terms of any metric that now matters to any media company.

If you want to hold people accountable for the state of what we see on those pages, you need to be talking to teenagers and the owners of bot farms.

Your justification for mediocrity is why people get away with this bland crap at Vogue

US Vogue has been mediocre for years, and they even got worse when they started the global sharing strategy thing ( I was totally against that, and calling it a bad decision). I've been an avid US Vogue reader for almost 20 years, and if you compare the magazine now to the magazine even 10 years ago, you can totally see the steep decline in the imagery, writing and the overall quality of the magazine. It's clear that their heart (and budget) is no longer in print product. Anna probably already have too much on her plate and doesn't have enough time to put 100% of her energy to her print magazine, and I've come to accept that.

If I want a better fashion magazine I can just look to european magazines where it seems that the people involved still at least put their heart in the product. Tbh I no longer have faith in profit oriented, corporate owned American magazines. Hoping (and complaining) them to finally snap back and give us quality content is just like hoping that the September issue of US Vogue goes back to having 800 pages again.. It's almost impossible...

Let's just be real.. - as much as I am a print lover - magazines is an outdated product. From business stand point, if i'm a brand owner, I would rather spend my advertising budget on digital ads. It might sound pessimistic, but unfortunately it's the truth for today's world. I wonder if in 2030s we'll still have mainstream printed American fashion magazines...

Yes, I read the comments from people missing Coddington's work in US Vogue as well but the individuals have no clue that she actually styled the cover story.

I agree with you on a few points. I sometimes think that at this point in this difficult state of print (low sales etc.), we should just be happy that a magazine like US Vogue or Harper's Bazaar are still being printed.

This obviously isn't true (in terms of the entire issue being LV), but I also don't get the framing of this as a new or particularly noteworthy thing. Do they think this is a first? That prior to this, brand ambassadors didn't appear on covers overtly repping the brand? Rosalia, Dior brand ambassador, is on the cover of Elle's September issue wearing - you guessed it! - Dior. Dua Lipa, Chanel spokesperson, is on the Harper's Bazaar September issue wearing Chanel. What a concept!

Is it tiresome? Sure. Is it fair to single out Vogue/LV? No.

the note was on vogue being on a list of what happened in fashion in that week not about a full article on fashion magazines or solely vogue.

i think she is aware its not 100%LV but its written in a way to prove a point about LV recent moves as a brand than is lacking more than what vogue lacks or did wrong or not.

its about LV decline /recent brand missteps i agree with her the first time NG did some sort of LV couture it makes no point of what LV stands for in womens fashion.

The rot has been with us for some time.

Remember when the big idea was to 'add value' to print products by changing their size, because having a more unwieldy magazine in their hands was going to convince readers they were getting a luxury experience?

All they did with that decision was create inconvenience for newsstands and distress to collectors of magazines whose organised piles would never look the same again.

Yeah, it was so wild how many people were like, "Grace Coddington would NEVER..." lol. People are so f'ing dumb sometimes it makes me want to explode. (Not justifying the cover, just pointing out how people don't read or care to know the truth anymore, it seems).
 
If this is truly the September cover, it's 100% better than last years crumble of a cover.
it's a low, LOW bar to clear but compared to last year ..... at least the cover star is actually and legitimately an A-list celebrity this time. Also Emma Stone doesn't tend to make her photographs look like they came from a mid-range "classy! 50% off" promotion for a mall jewellery store campaign.

And no need to inform/break the news to us via bad puff piece that she's a movie star, because we know she is.
 
So I went through the issue and tbh, it’s not as bad as I expected. I mean, it’s US Vogue so I don’t really look for those super high-fashion, avant garde, dreamy spreads they used to serve us way back. The vibe is more safe and polished which is fine but I kinda miss the whimsy. What really bugged me though is the cropping like why chop off the magic? It ruins the flow of the story the photos are trying to tell. And don’t even get me started on “The Places They’ll Go”… they used CGI instead of a real location. Like, imagine how stunning it would’ve been if they actually went somewhere? It just feels a little off especially for a mag like Vogue that’s supposed to transport you. Still, it’s not a total flop there are some nice moments, but yeah, I miss when it all felt more fantastical.
