US Vogue Winter 2023 : Florence Pugh by Colin Dodgson

The Beckham editorial just proved to me that a combination of a good photographer with a good stylist and the right models is vital to selling the clothes because I hate the way they photographed that Olivier Theyskens dress, they made it look so banal.

But they are not models, they're more celebrities/socialites. And for better or worse Anna's Vogue has featured these types of people since forever.

At least the celebs and socialites she featured in the 90s and 2000s were fashionable in their own right like those Park Avenue princesses and the like and were photographed and styled to look more stylish and never took over the entire issue all year. The celebrities were always shot in a more generic but always elegant and pleasant style b seasoned photographers who knew what they were doing. Unlike nowadays when its more importan to have insta appeal and appear to be inclusive than actually being inclusive. The Beckahm shoot looks like cosplay for Bonnnie and Clyde.

Ah, but Vogue would be so quick to remind you it's now at the forefront of a new world of voices and faces and things like that.

If we were to believe them, we could only puzzle about the sight of a person who has no discernible talents/looks who is taking space away from others without famous surnames.

which editorial is this? who are these people? I really like it rs

Basically what most people including myself like about Florence, Phoebe WB, Jodie C (where's her cover!), Micaela C, Ruth N, Emma S. English actresses are almost always more personable and authentic than their peers. It's just a cultural thing. ^_^
But on here people often dismiss them as 'ugh, another British actress'.

I would love to add Elizabeth Debicki, she's not British of course, but in terms of quality and beauty belongs to that group.

The only Emma S. I can think of straightaway is Emma Stone, who comes across as personable and authentic, but she's American. Ruth Negga is Irish-Ethiopian, I believe, not English.

It never occurred to me that people thought of English actresses (specifically/uniquely) as personable and authentic, I kind of always thought it was the Americans. But I struggle to think of examples to definitively back that up. Anne Hathaway? Jennifer Lawrence? Zendaya? Blake Lively? Drew Barrymore? SJP? Australians are probably going "no no, it's Cate Blanchett, Margot Robbie, Toni Collette, Naomi Watts...." Perhaps actresses from our own countries reflect our values or culture in some way that just reads as more authentic to us and they come across as more personable for similar reasons.
