Vanity Fair November 2017 : Kate McKinnon by Annie Leibovitz

Look like a Tim Walker pic. I like it, especially the green, but I'd have cropped it closer.

Wow, this is really good. I like her pale skin against the potent green. It reminds me of the years when Annie and VF at least tried to present something quirky and fresh. Will Smith on horseback, a white painted Jim Carrey, Tina, Amy and Sarah Silverman as Grecian beauties.

Wonder when Graydon's last issue will be! :(

Fresh, fresh, fresh! Can't wait for this to arrive in my mailbox.

Yes, VF is definitely missing some of that old school quirkiness which produce some iconic pictures. Whoopi in a bathtub of Milk comes to mind. At some point they transition into competing with Vogue for glamour, which was a mistake imo.

It was roundabout the same time that they started hiring the likes of Edward Enninful, Sarajane Hoare, Norman Jean Roy and Testino and to style and shoot covers. For most part many of Annie and Mark Seliger's single shots inside of the magazine actually reflected that quirkiness.

it has a touch of Christmas feeling but I like it :)

And a lot of the classic Vanity Fair covers people call to mind are probably from Tina Brown's era - and as an aside, I believe she's publishing a new book soon about her tenure, The Vanity Fair Diaries: 1983 -1992, out this November.

Really?? I'll be getting that then. I've only heard of her supposed rivaly with Anna and that it was almost turned into a tv series or something. Typical of the media to waste no time pitting women against one another.

There were some anecdotes behind many of her covers. The Ronnie and Nancy one (who I find despicable), Angelica Houston, and some other iconic ones. It'd be interesting to read her memoirs!

I don't like this. Too washed out and pale. She looks like a corpse

I love this woman, but I hate this cover. Annie is meant to be good at capturing the essence of someone, but this is a total misfire

I don't like anything about this at all. The cropping. The pose. It's such a non-cover.

Honest question, is this supposed to have a Chrismas/Santa's elf vibe to it?

I feel like there is absolutely an image this is referenced from but I can't for the life of me work out what it is?

I love this, but it makes more sense as a December cover, no?

Is this the last issue under the present eic?

No way, he only leaves in December. And VF works about two months in advance despite it not being a fashion magazine.
