Versace F/W 11.12 : Saskia de Brauw, Candice Swanepoel & Sean O'Pry by Mert & Marcus

I love this. Something about the pose reminds me of Avedon's Versace campaigns, but with that background which, as someone else mentioned, brings to mind that amazing Meisel campaign from 1998.

Regarding the complaints that this isn't sexy I just have to say that I can't even remember the last time Versace did a campaign that actually was sexy. Boring, yes, sexy...notsomuch.

A wonderful juxtaposition of vibrant colour, texture and glamour. Plus Saskia looks gorgeous and sexy, I'm so happy to see her in the campaign!

Saskia is turning it out here. Was not a fan of hers after the VP cover but she has turned my perception of her with each new booking. I have become a reluctant fan. Kudos to Saskia and to DNA for finding this diamond in the rough and giving her that major girl push. She is def in the mode of early McMenamy and Stella.

I've long been a fan of Saskia, and was surprised to see the negative response when it was announced she was the campaign girl. Although the concept is average at best, the casting is something Versace has been crying out for; a mature woman to front the brand who isn't already one of the established supers. I can't wait to see this in print.

Have much problems this campaing look so fake all

This is soo Cavalli... doomsday kinda look.. loving it! Very unexpected from Versace.

^ WWD article mentions only Saskia.

When Donatella Versace brought her fashion shows back to Via Gesù starting with men’s last year, it was a homecoming for the designer in more ways than one.

It’s where her brother Gianni used to present his collections, and the women’s show last February picked up on many of the baroque themes that he made iconic to the house. With so many symbolic statements, it was only a natural that she also wanted to shift gears with the campaign to accompany these collections, and the new visuals, slated to break in August issues of major lifestyle and fashion books, represent a major shift from previous campaigns.

In a Versace first, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were tapped to shoot the campaign, and rather than the of-the-moment celebrity or platinum blonde so synonymous with the house, Versace worked with brunette model Saskia de Brauw and Sean O’pry as her male counterpart. Versace explained that the casting harkens back to various moments in Versace’s heritage.

“For me, it is expected to have the blonde girl, the sexy girl, and this is what Versace meant recently,” Donatella Versace told WWD on Thursday, during a fitting for the spring 2012 men’s show, scheduled for Monday. “But I thought about how in the past, when Gianni used girls like Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant, everyone was always saying, ‘Wow, this is not a Versace girl, she is not blonde.’ Sometimes you need to renew yourself to work better and to make a little bit of a push.”

The campaign, which Alas and Piggott photographed in London last April, was art directed by Giovanni Bianco, who has worked extensively with Steven Klein for Italian Vogue as well as with Madonna. Joe McKenna served as the stylist. “It’s a glamorous woman and it’s a little pop, which I love,” Versace said of the resulting images. “Mert and Marcus are very talented and full of ideas.

“This season is just the beginning,” she added. “I want to push something different and new.”

Mario Testino, who had shot the fashion campaigns from 2004 through last season, will continue to photograph the brand’s fragrance campaigns.

The new ad direction is also emblematic of a new era at the house, led on the business end by chief executive officer Gian Giacomo Ferraris. Versace explained that the new campaign was another facet of this. “It’s a very good moment right now,” she said.

Ohhh, so that explains why Candice, Daphne and Natasha were cancelled.

I guess I'll just have to imagine Natasha in these.

Mert & Marcus for coming custom to re-using Meisel's ideas, right? First Isabeli's Vogue Paris editorial and now this, referencing back to his Versace ads. Not that I'm complaining, because I do have high hopes for this. It's certainly the strongest I've seen Saskia, M&M have done her justice, and the Versace brand.

^Meisel´s always re-using others photographers´ideas...
I´m glad they´ve changed photographers :)

Never thought Sakia would be Versace type but wow :woot:
so gorgeous, way better than last season's horrible campaign

I think Saskia is OG for Versace Mainline
Candice did Fragrance and Daphne got Pre Fall
but we'll see the whole campaign

I think you're right about this and i've agree: Saskia looks great. Never thought she would looking so good in this. But I'm really impressed. I don't care about the background, better then a boring background like Prada.

well it looks good though i agree about the Cavalli similarity. The man's leg does also look odd

Loving Sean in this. Nice addition.
I feel it could've been way more dynamic with the other girls though. Saskia generally does nothing for me...

It's quite nice... If they'd put Saskia in front of a solid black background rather than the landscape it might look edgy and a bit better. It's just that those mountains in the background are a bit off putting. Otherwise, Saskia has surprised me. Never pictured her as a Versace girl and she looks really beautiful.
Sean's shot is really intense, gorgeous. I just wished they'd used a few other male models... Would have loved to see Victor Nylander or some of the other models from the show.

The background looks a lot like Cavalli Fall 2010, but Saskia looks great but I'm very dissapointed that Natasha Poly was cancelled :(

Saskia is doing absolutely nothing for me, I wish they stuck to Candice.

And their F/W 10 Cavalli campaign popped into my mind as well, this is looking a bit overused a year after.
