Versace Menswear S/S 2023 by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

The black and white closeups are completely unnecessary and passé. I would have preferred a full length body shot instead. I don’t care for the younger guys that were chosen. They don’t have the presence required for a solo shot, let alone two. It’s an improvement overall. I hope the women’s campaign uses a strong cast without any of the instagirls.

Love the full campaign mostly due to the old shcool supermodels.

Quite agree. The body shots reminds me of to the Meisel Prada ads from the early 2000s, but I can see a mix of Avedon and Weber here. Many photographers are taking Richard's aesthetic this year.

Vanderloo Jr is quite handsome, his shots are the best from the youngsters. I guess it's inescapable to have guys like him in the industry, those premium genes do all the work.

Highlight is unsurprisingly Ivan, though. Still the most captivating models ever.

With all the dreams and speculations, imagine Marcus Schenkenberg for Versace. Although he doesn't look quite as naturally aged as Mark for example :innocent:

^^^ Neither have aged well, frankly. I thought Mark was pushing his late-60s. He looks like Matthew Modine.

Tyson Beckford, David Boals and Tony Ward would have been been stronger castings. At least there would be some semblance of sex appeal. This all looks as neutered as a 90s Sears weekly flyer.

Tyson has and will always be Ralph Lauren, not saying it'd be fun to see him do something else.

This conversation is getting so off-topic yet so interesting, I hope the mods won't mind.

At least there's no singers for this campaign. It's 100% model cast! Celebrating this choice of Donatella like a holiday gift. Still, I can't wait for the female part. Rooting for Amber.

EmRata is already confirmed by Donatella.

A dream come true in hell. Why?!!! You can't put her with Iván and Mark. No way. I prefer by far last year with Gigi and Bella. They can model, Emily is so dry. Robin Thicke, I hate you for making her famous.

Quite like the mixture of colour and black and white images, and loving the fact the casting is Versace favourites from both past and present. Mark Vanderloo looks great, could've handled this whole entire campaign on his lonesome. He's got such a presence!

After this, I'm extremely eager to see the unveiling of the womenswear counterpart.

Besides maturing into age so gorgeously, Tyson still possesses that spark, vitality, energy he had over 30 years ago. Same with Tony Ward, and I'll add Vladimir McCrady to the group. And although the latter two were never associated with Gianni’s clan, their red-blooded energy is what’s needed more than ever for this stale brand, rather than coasting on dusty nostalgia.

Always been in lust for David Goals. And his brand of gentle smoulder and quiet masculinity is still intact even after all these years-- god, he's beautiful. Some models haven’t aged well and no longer radiate that spark; Hard to say if Marcus still has it— since he’s gone and done that to his face… With skilled lighting, angles amnd clever cropping, I’d definitely cast him alongside the other mentioned. But this sort of catalogue flat-lighting as displayed here isn’t going to flatter him-- just look at Mark and Ivan.
