Vogue Australia May 2020 : Carey Mulligan by Josh Olins

Yeah they did her dirty. She was so great in Porter last month!

Where to start with this irredeemable cover? Perhaps "solidarity" should’ve been capitalized at least, ummmm I would rather they take notes from Vogue Italia and US Vogue just leaving it blank grey with a hashtag or whatever than that face struggling to smile.

I was a excited when I saw Carey Mulligan in the title... Vogue Australia, good job of turning people off.

For once Christine's styling doesn't look obnoxious, I especially like what Carey is wearing paired with the choker and black fonts. But everything else looks dull. They've tried the 'carefree' vibe and failed. At best many people find Carey Mulligan boring, and a cover like this just reinforced that notion.

Oh gosh ahahah it looks HIDEOUS my goddddd the photo is a disaster: the pose, the hair, the whole vibe and the layout is atrocious COME ON who is getting paid to do coverlines placement like this??? This is VOGUEEEEEE. How, Howwwww in the world could they send this to press??? Is it a school project made by interns on their lunchbreak????? I'm shocked!!!

Yes, Carey has a very delicate look in print - everything in the editorial has to be subtle and balanced, to give her personality the space to come through. When it works, it works.

But she's not a model, where you can throw ugly clothes at them, and they'll get working to convince you that whatever they're wearing will make your life immeasurably better.

Looking at this, you just want her to go and change into something that makes her feel more comfortable, and before she does that, you want to snip off that hanging thread at her waist, or whatever the hell it is.

I LOVE Carey, so I will always be excited to see her on a cover. While this is definitely not her most exciting cover, I still prefer this over like 90% of todays working models covers. At least you know Carey will say some interesting stuff in her interview.

Terrible font.

Also lose that ugly choker and picture itself wouldn’t be so bad.

The font has GOT TO GO. It really does cheapen the cover. I think at the very least the letters need to have more spacing. Simple fonts are nice/chic for logos but for cover text it doesn't come across as mature/luxe/elegant.

I don't mind the more relaxed expression and composition given that they are relating it to COVID-19 so it can't be high glitz/glamour. But I refuse to believe there wasn't a better select.
