Vogue India October 2007 ( Premier Issue ) by Patrick Demarchelier

Thanks a lot for the very comprehensive review, MMTF. :flower:

I'm impressed that the fashion eds are all original content, even if it is the big premiere issue. Let's hope they can keep that up (for the most part, at least).

I found 4 preview pics of Sasha's ed!

Gemma's Pic is gorgeous, and sasha's ed is better than the UK Vogue September issue.

Vogue's Indian street children

Fashion bible Vogue arrived this week in India amid a blaze of publicity. But its latest recruits in India are not waif-like models or label-hungry shopoholics but the army of teenage hawkers who line New Delhi's busy intersections.

A child selling Vogue in New Delhi
Standing opposite the 18th century Mughal marble mausoleum beneath a red light, Rakesh Gupta is extolling the virtues of Vogue magazine. You see, he tells me, I am making three times my normal salary with this new magazine.
Rakesh, dressed in what might be described as Dickensian-chic, earns 25 rupees - about thirty pence - for every copy he manages to flog to those caught in the endless traffic jams. His takings on saturday topped 800 rupees (£10).
"This is much more than any other magazine," he says. Illiterate but street-smart the teenager admits he cannot read about why pearls are "off-beat cool" this season or why a British model who draped herself across a grimy river front. "It is mostly pictures for rich madams. I know that," he adds with a grin.
Here beside exhaust fumes at the end of a broad avenue lies an Indian puzzle: the country is economically confident, yet sunk in dreadful poverty. Vogue sells an image of an Indian gilded age: an ancient country luxuriating in unprecedented wealth.
Rakesh came to Delhi with his brother from India's poorest state Bihar in search of streets paved with gold. What he found was one room and the anonymity of India's capital. He works by weaving through the traffic, carrying in his hands the stories of a lucky few who are part of the shining new, expensively-dressed Indian future. source guardian UK.com

First and foremost I'm extremely proud of India getting a Vogue edition, since I have a very special place for India in my . Considering that these are the development stages of construction and balance, the cover and the editorials especially are amazing. I'm very happy that the context hasn't gone towards the American Vogue route. Solely the quality of the editorials are confirming that. Everyone should get a copy solely for the support and celebration!^_^

For the most part I can agree with people who wanted to see Ujjwala. She's the biggest fashion model to come out of India, and she deserved to be on that premiere issue cover, if anyone. I'm kind of disappointed though seeing Gemma and Sasha in the same issue and the actual price is rather to high for the "normal" people to get hold of it. 800 rupies is actually a monthly rent cost for some people!

Knowing the value of the price, it will definitely affect the sells and obviously people's perception of the magazine itself. I know this may be the secure alternative, since the magazine is new and a stable economic chart is rather the only option. Further down the timeline, I wish that the focus was set on the wider demographic range. This way fashion will have a greater chance to establish itself among the households.

*edit*
Purple lipstick and the green lace, it can't get better than that!

That pic from Gemmas ed is stunning:woot:, cant wait to see the entire spread, and Sashas is beautiful as well:heart:, shes never looked more lovely especially in the last pic, I wish I could get a copy of this, it looks much more intriquing then US Vogue:D

I know a lot of people wanted Ujjwala on the cover, but sadly most Indians I know don't find her attractive at all.

Sasha looks so lovely! I'm glad the editorials seem to be much better than the cover.

Love the pictures from Gemmas and Sashas edits, cant wait to see it in full.

the cover looks like L'oreal Ad
content looks like UK Vogue
nice but not Original anyway i want this issue :P

and oh - i forgot to mention there's a 5 page "Welcome"/ "Congrats Vogue India" article in which leading indian and intl. designers have written a paragraph or created an illustration.

the actual price is rather to high for the "normal" people to get hold of it. 800 rupies is actually a monthly rent cost for some people!
The price is Rs. 100. Not 800. that was the boy's earnings for the entire day. Though i agree its still priced higher than elle and cosmo. :flower:
