Gorgeous photo! Looks quite dated but its alright.

Enough with their terrible art direction! Can’t believe people are paid for this. And “restarting issue”? Didn’t they just promote the #NewVogue months ago? They’re clearly running out of ideas.

A simple font and one word ala Franca VI would gave been enough

Back to 2006 with this cover, even the contrived internet references...

While I get the idea VI is going for with the 'restarting' (new year new approach and all that) the inclusion of the mac computer elements are unnecessary and distracting from what is a good photo.

I agree with you on everything, I also have to say that because some Vogue editions have upped their game then now when I see a Vogue Italia cover or issue I am soooooo underwhelmed and expecting so so so much but I am always disappointed with what they do, it´s like they have lost their magic and their powerful aura about being that super edgy super fierce Vogue edition: no more Franca, no more Meisel and yeah the new team tries hard but there isn´t a clear direction anymore and everything looks contrived now. This image (if you take out the layout) could be a normal Elle Italia cover but nothing more.

I don't get why you guys are so annoyed by the internet reference. It is just a little thing in this cover, and the main editorial isn't to do with the internet reference.

I agree the new Vogue Italia is in lack of direction. However, at least they're trying. After 2000 Franca and her Vogue Italia Team only gave opportunities to very little photographers and Stylists, like Steven Meisel, Peter Lindlbergh, Paolo Roversi, Bruce Weber, Greg Kadel, Miles Aldridge, Karl Templer, Jacob K, Patti Wilson... etc, especially after 2010 they produce similar unintriguing works again and again (except Meisel). Whether successful or not, new Vouge Italia is giving opportunities various new photographers and stylists.

edit) I love the cover. Fran looks fierce, Max Pearmain did really good styling.

What styling? It's a full look from Louis Vuitton. If anything he just put some hobo gloves on her.

I like the cover. The girl reminds me of Alison Nix.

Anyway, I think the editorial pictures will be lackluster though.

I like the cover! Fran was my favourite newcomer of SS18 and I'm very happy to see her and McDean for the cover.
Ad much as I was in love with Meisel's work with Vogue Italia, I think it's good that the new direction embraces many photographers, because the work created by Meisel and Franca was unique and cannot be repeated.

The fact that the internet has nothing to do with the cover and the editorial speaks a lot about this team. The disconnect is exactly what’s wrong with the cover. Come on, the fact that they felt the need to use a gimmick already says a lot about them.

Let the cover image speak for itself. This sort of gimmick is unnecessey.

I thought it was Abbey Lee at first.

Lovely picture, she looks great and i'm happy for McDean. The art direction didn't bother me at first but now I think it's unnecessary.

Those hobo gloves do add something I think. Pearmain fan here.

Do we know if the McDean computer graphic was added by him or by the magazine's team? Or perhaps together as they all tripped through a time tunnel... Happy New Year! 2010 again!

Not my cup of tea. Looks artsy and made by someone whose IQ and taste is rather low.

So if I like it does that mean my IQ and taste are rather low as well?

The video is pretty cool! It looks like the issue will feature all the hot new faces - Fran, Gisele Fox, Lulu, Shanelle.. And more I can't recognise

Because it's tacky, obtrusive, and like Mon said bears zero relevance to the image.

I like the covershot a lot, particularly fond of the way McDean photographed this look. The idea of a McDean themed special edition is way overdue and I'm looking forward to the content. But once again they had to ruin it with awful art direction. There's this huge disconnect between the art direction and the style of the image time and time with this magazine. But I suppose this overzealous design is just a way to distract from Farneti blatantly copying Franca and Meisel's VI. You'll note he's staying away from social or political commentary because that will be even harder to replicate with the likes of M&M who doesn't have the wit nor expertise to cover that.

Me too, and it got so excited... until I saw that she isn´t, and saw the art direction
I know to expect nothing of my liking when I click on a new VI thread nowadays... hopefully the main ed and content are better.

With today’s political climate, imagine how Franca & Meisel would’ve had a field day with that alone. I can imagine Meisel replicating a women’s march editorial. But that’s under the classic VI and not under this tragic one.

The main editorial is okay. Its classic VI

Wouldn’t be surprised if this were sponsored by Apple. That user interface is so apparent.
