W September 2010 : Hollywood's New It Girls by Inez & Vinoodh

I'm cackling. Cackling. CACKLING.

I have to say that in spite of the fact that I find Kat Dennings to be almost completely unappealing on every possibly level. I think the Inez and Vinoodh shot is appealing. Not so sure about the cover text and the logo change just yet, but wasn't it inevitable? New editor has to make their mark somehow.

I'll reserve final judgment for when I see the full contents.

First of all, WHAT? Yaya in/on the W magazine? That's crazy, huge, shocking, unexpected, etc. She is in the upcoming Tron movie (not sure how big/small her role is) so that's probably why.

Second of all, I try to stay on top of pop/movie culture and yet I only know like half of those names. Strikes me as trying too hard on the part of W. "Oh look we found some actresses nobody knows about"....

Third of all, as been said here before, the weak design of W makes the cover look very forgettable and not-special. I hadn't even noticed the W at first, which is not a good sign.

it looks like W want to be Monocle. from hollywood glamour to fashion elite? kinda interesting actually.
but that logo is too big for the whole page, it's not working. apart from that, i really like how clean the cover becomes!

Very interesting redesign - they're definitely abandoning a lot of old elements...even the I&V feel is different here.

Yaya DaCosta

So an America's Next Top Model contestant made it into W, after all!

Well, I must say I'm not impressed or interested at all so far. I first saw one cover posted by someone on facebook this morning and thought that was a fake or something then had a little shock when I came here and realised it wasn't a fake. Then, covers have stopped interesting me for a while already (except Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris sometimes and a few more confidential ones) so I didn't have high expectations anyway. But the logo change doesn't make feel very good about what might come next with W. I hope they'll prove me wrong, though, as I still enjoy that huge magazines and smell its bad quality paper.

I like the new logo. However when combine with that typography and layout everything falls flat. Losing Edward Leida was an extremely hard hit.

Yaya's cover is better than Kat's, i hope Mary Elizabeth's cover is the best among all.

can't wait to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead's cover...I'm so glad she's on the cover too!

It's refreshing to see W completely changed but actually I'm not so fond of the new design yet.

I don't like this new font! And, is W turning into Vanity Fair?

I think W might just be turning into Vanity Fair...

Hollywood's New It-Girls? Oh please.

i cannot believe they chose the most insipid looking girls to mark Tonchi's debut for the new W.
he's stated that he wanted the magazine to be less of a fashion obsessed publication but if that's
the case then they're pretty much off the mark here when it comes to featuring new hollywood
faces. if they want to do a VF then they better improve their research cause i have no idea who
the hell these people are.

anyhow i hope the content is good. the new logo isn't that bad but i really liked the old one better.
that one made a statement, this one just looks rather weak.

^Yeah it is Yaya from ANTM, she's now an actress and is in the final series of Ugly Betty as Wilhelmina Slater's Daughter, so i guess that grants her 'reason' for being on the cover as an up and coming actress .

She is also in the movie The Kids are Alright with Julianne Moore:flower:

Why the *uck is that Yaya girl on the cover?! The old W would never feature her on the cover!

^The old W was spiraling downward in terms of circulation and profits. Not saying I agree with the new changes and cover stars, but if one is dying, one does what one must to survive.

I love the new logo. The old logo was too 90s. This has a classic 70s/80s feel that I'm really digging.

So far excited. Especially by the fact that I&V shot the cover.

The three cover without text:
