W September 2010 : Hollywood's New It Girls by Inez & Vinoodh

I love the new logo. The old logo was too 90s. This has a classic 70s/80s feel that I'm really digging.

Very good point. I think I dislike the new logo and loved the previous one for that very same reason.

Why are people asking who they are? Did you not read the title? They are NEW to the industry. Were you expecting Angelina Jolie on the cover?

As for the tagline, oh dear.

All the redesign aside, I'm looking very much forward to Tim Walker's first W story

i like the new logo, but i think they are going in a "try-hard" direction, especially by picking these girls (which i don't have a clue where they came from) and by the slogans and stuff like that. but the photography is really nice, i love i&v!

Why the *uck is that Yaya girl on the cover?! The old W would never feature her on the cover!

If you clearly read the posts before she is
in a couple new movies and is going to be on Ugly Betty:innocent:
she is not a model appearing on it but an actresss:rolleyes:

The only one of these girls whose name I didn't recognize was Yaya DaCosta and now I feel stupid because I just saw The Kids Are All Right last week and thought she was terrific. All of the other girls seem genuinely poised for stardom or at least decent carears. Emma Roberts, for example, would have to work hard to NOT become an a-lister.

Side Note: I've seen four of these women on film in the last week. Yaya is The Kids Are All Right, Emma and Zoe in Twelve, and Greta in Greenberg. And this weekend I'll be seeing Mary Elizabeth in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. So yeah, I respectfully disagree with the people who don't think these are good choices for the cover.

The cover stars they chose seem interesting, it's just jarring to see the way they are shot--as was the Hamm & Hall cover. It's much more plain than the past, not the same glossy, high glamour.

I wanna see the whole changes in W for the next few months, maybe they will feature models on the cover someday now? Very excited about the M&M stories, but I loathe the new logo. The old one was much better! This looks like something out of Paint.

Yaya? Seriously? I like her, but come on.

love Mary Elizabeth's shot, but what happened to Zoe's hair? i don't like it

I'm not really keen how it's three separate covers personally. I'd rather it have been more of a flowing image that just folded out.. But then I'm also not really all that fond of it for a September issue. Just doesn't really feel right for this season for me.

Not a fan of the new font, but the cover is lovely.

I kinda like the new tag line (let's see if they live up to it) and logo, although I wonder if the size of the new logo will be obstructive. Also, I did not have anything against the old logo.

I like the covers, I have nitpicks like I don't like the goofy smile of the top girl in the top picture, and second picture with the girl on girl looks a tad contrived as does shaggy hipsterism in the third photo, but I think that Jennifer Lawrence (center of the first picture) and Zoe Kravitz (I think that is her in the center of the third picture) look astonishingly lovely and Yaya's fro is freshly cool as opposed to the been-there-done-that-and-therefore-not-really-cool hipster element.

I wonder if the cornerstone of their strategy is demographic, because it is risky to put relatively unknowns on any cover and especially your September cover and I wonder if they want to be able to sell the profile of their buyers as opposed to the number of buyers. Tonchi seems to be playing a pretty high stakes game, in a year or two he is either going to be the hero of lifestyle and fashion publishing or out on his keister.

maybe I'm reading too much into this, but this type of comment is so ignorant and disrespectful to me. do you mean the old W would never feature a new age of actresses that happen to also be black?

she isn't on the cover because of her modeling, she is represented here because of her talent as an actress. but I'm sure you would probably prefer one of those all-white Vanity Fair covers with the "actresses" from like....Twilight...

I do however agree that I'm not really feeling the new W logo or tagline. and as tanii pointed out this feels very Vanity Fair to me (except for the type of actresses represented)

I do like the cover photographs though

I think W is trying to be Vanity Fair: The Next Generation.
