What do you do with your fashion mags?

^^ Going through all of my magazines would take...ummm...the rest of my life!!!

I just got rid of a bunch of magazines since Im moving. But once I settle into my house, I want to get those magazine holders (Carrie has them on SATC in here walkway on the shelves) and start a magazine library.

Keep them in the holders and protected.............and on a shelve.

Some I trash, but there are a few I save. After a year of back issues, I try and empty them out, though.

I keep most of Vogue Paris and Numéro (Vogue Paris from the start of Carine R. entrance as I've lost the rest in a move-in...which means a huge collection of Vogue Paris/Italia/US from 1993 to 2000 and The Face)
actually I keep them because sometimes i like to compare old edits to recent edits. if you do it, you'll have big surprises!

I keep all my mags in a pile, but I have to admit, it's not the best solution:lol:

I couldn't find a pic of her apt. that showed the magazines.

But these are what the containers are like:

Container Store has a BUNCH of these...different colors and materials.

I plan on using somthing like that.............and putting them all onto a shelve with my books etc. and forming a "library" of sorts.

That is so nice! I'm sure you've already inspired some readers! :flower:

Aw thanks, but then I also worry that instead of designers or artists my old magazines might create self-obsessed model wannabees with eating disorders! :innocent:

But I do know that a bunch of kids cut some of them up for dream collages and I thought was was really cute.

Yeah I've got those, they're great:D

Actually, if you want to store mags properly you shouldn't have them standing, ever, but lying. Obviously, this depends on how long they're gonna be that way and so on.

^^ Why is that? I always see pics of publisher's offices and such with mags standing like books on shelves; seems like a less stressful way to store pages than stacked flat...?

Having the magazines stand for elongated periods of time can cause the magazines to become more fragile (Because it wants to bend but can't) and the bottom edges to get worn out, unless you actually have a bookshelf full of them so they can really support each other. :flower:

There was a phase where I went through where I kept all my magazines in perfect order and condition but I outgrew it after I started focusing on models and ads. So I started separating the ads that I liked from the magazines and putting them into binders of clear pocket protector pages. Those are now organized in my room according to ad/model/season and placed in those cardboard holders that is pictured above by Ianastar. Yes, we are all freaks here. Lol.

Exactly. And I think the reason you don't see them lying down in the publisher's office is because for them it's more important that the magazines are easily accessible. They will have pdfs of the magazines as well as professionally bound quarterly volumes, no doubt.

Having the mags standing up straight is just fine if you're not into storing them for a year or more that way, or if you're simply not interested in keeping it in great shape.

There are a bunch of other things you should do as well, store the mags in acid free plastic slips. But somewhere it starts getting ridiculous too. I mean, you want to be able to get to them.

TGA - I have been thinking of doing that to the younger mags I have. So many of them are just pure sh*t anyway - but some are pieces of art as units IMO (yeah, this is a real mag asylum). And somehow I doubt you really understand which mags are truly great until a few years after the fact. I try to scan all my mags instead of having to separate them (which I wouldn't ever do under any circumstances to about 30% of them anyway). But someday soon space will be an issue. But I am lagging terribly with the scanning....I just have so little TIME these days

Maybe I can cut up mags less if I scan more; my machine is kaput; any suggestions on DPIs and all for a new one? I was never too happy with the quality of my old scans- alright I guess but not great enough for a an OCD type..!!:woot: I think I had a 600x600 machine...

Thanks for the mags-standing up thing :P:blush: My magazine collection is ever growing and I'm glad I know that its a good thing to stack them!:D

^
Yup, mine are stacked too.
They were standing though until recently, but they take up so much room..
