What must a model be willing to do?

But is nudity bad per se? Isn't banning nudity a bad thing in itself? I agree it's a complicated matter, but banning nudity isn't an option in my opinion.
I'm not advocating that at all. I merely think that nudity is overused, unimaginative, and has been severely cheapened.

I completely agree, it's used merely to sell and not for an artsy addition that really adds something. But it's hard to draw a line: this is good nude, this is bad.

Exactly. I am all for nudity but it is being used more and more as nothing more than a gimmick; contributing very little to the actual content.

And really, fashion is about the CLOTHING!!

Fashion is about clothing, clothing is next to the body. So I'm disagreeing with you there, the body is important. It's the base of the clothes.
Often though, people tend to pretend that they use nudity to put emphasis on this base, whereas it is obviously to shock and get more attention. Nudity doesn't go down too well in most parts of the world.

Sometimes nudity is used in a bad way, I agree.

You just look at a picture and think "Why is that boob sticking out"
However then it was probably a bad stylist who made a wrong decision.

Btw kate moss was naked in most of her early pictures,.

Yes, and she hated it. She cried during the shoots.

Yeah I remember an interview where she said Corinne (Day) would practically force her. After that she joked she now got her 't*ts out whenever she can'.

What with all the trends for sheer everything, if a girls not prepared to get her chest out on the runway... she's not gonna book many jobs.

Totally agree with you. Its so tough now a days.. but if you do it wrong, you wont be taken serious and could lose your reputation. Its a tricky situation!

Wow, didn't know that. Poor girl,..
Well I guess it was worth it,..

Here is an example were I'm like "WHYY? I don't wanna see your boobs!!"

I never could stand the way American Apparel advertises their clothes. When you do something that is supposed to be considered shocking for the sake of being shocking, it just comes across as contrived and like it's trying too hard.

In regards to how far a model must go...ideally she wouldn't have to do anything that made her feel too uncomfortable or violated. Obviously models do sometimes have to step outside their comfort zones and that's not always a bad thing. However I do think it's important for a model to know her own boundaries and expectations while still understanding that there might be some repercussions that may effect her career for having those boundaries. But obviously it can be hard to have too many boundaries (especially in regards to nudity) and still have a career at the end of the day.

To be honest I think a model definitely needs to be willing to go nude in front of the camera by the time she's 16/18. It's just part of the job that a model feels comfortable about showing off her body and exuding a certain confidence about her nudity and her body.

But something else I've been wondering: How important do you people think it is for a model to give up her privacy to make it big? That question came up because I think these days it's so normal for a model to be present in social media platforms (Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, tFS) and I was wondering if it's benefiting for a model to connect with her fans. IMO Tanya D for example wouldn't have such a cult following if she hadn't posted in her tFS thread all the time. Ale Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana are models who tweet pictures from shootings pretty much in real time.
Personally I enjoy getting to know models through their Tumblr and Twitter accounts and it helps me become and to stay interested in a model. Besides I'm much more aware of the jobs a model has done by getting constant updates. But must a model be willing to put her personal life out there for everyone to read?

^I dont think so, look at Raquel, Daria, Guinevere, Lara, Sasha, Iris, Freja etc etc etc they dont really share any private information/photos on any social network and still, look where they are

I think that carine woman (or whatever her is) who was at VP took nudity to a whole new level. Personally, I like seeing models good nude now and then. But when u keep showing ur privates in every photo shoot, i see u in a different light. I'd think ur trashy and stuff like that. Whether it's playboy or vogue, they end up getting naked. Beats me when ppl say nude girls in vogue are classy.

Do models have to be willing to pose with a cigarette/smoke at all?
Lots of girls who are supposedly non-smokers are seen with a cigarette in their hand in editorials.
I'm just wondering whose idea it is. Sometimes it fits the mood of the editorial really well but other times it just looks forced and out of place.
