What to wear to prom or homecoming

^ I do not ;) Is it called anything else? Pardon me, we are a bit culture impaired here as you know

Hmm... It's a dance  An old British one, oddly enough (The Lancers Quadrilles). Weird tradition in Denmark - we do the lanciers in our senior year in something equal to college. I found some of it on youtube :D

So much fun! I once broke a finger doing les lanciers  So, I need a floor length dress... Or just some inspiration. My mom once bought me a load of silk from Thailand that I haven't put to use yet, I might get a dress made once I figure out what it will look like. I just need some inspiration...

^ Thank you ... you just helped me learn something new every day ;) It's like Jane Austen dancing :woot: Unfortunately we don't do those dances here. There are people who square dance & polka though.

So a long dress ... did you see the Maria Pinto ones I posted in Michelle Obama's thread?

Here are some simpler ones ... a long Donna Karan halter dress on neimanmarcus.com: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/c...3810008&cmCat=search&searchType=MAIN&parentId=

Maybe with a slit it would be good for dancing? This page also has links to a bunch of similar dresses ...

Help - prom tux...for a girl!

I'm not if this is the correct place to post this, but I just need some direction!
My situation is a little difficult considering that I don't know anything about suits or tailored clothing. My girlfriend asked me to go to prom with her, and I'm not really the type to wear a dress. So, I've decided to take on the challenge of finding and wearing a tux that looks good on me.
(I hope none of you find my treatment of the prom tradition sacriligeous.)

In true gay fashion, I decided to see if The L Word could offer any help. I found these two pictures of Shane (some of you have to know her character):

(In the second picture, she's all the way in the back on the left.)

I don't know what she's wearing or if it's a men's suit, but if anyone could offer some advice as to here to start with my suit quest - I'd be really grateful.

Thank you in advance...

Are you wanting to rent, or buy? There are tons of tuxedo looks made for women--if it were me, that's where I'd be looking. Buy hey, it's not me ;)

I believe men's tuxedos can be had pretty cheaply at discount places. My brother bought one the first time he had to go to a formal event, and then wore it to all of them.

If you can't find a womens look that you like in your price range, maybe you could get one of the discount tuxes ta-ta mentioned and get it tailoredto fit you and look more feminine, not so girl-in-mans-clothes.

This prom dress: Yay or Nay?

What do you think?
We arnt too sure about what color it is but went with gold for the moment, It may end up a burgandy color or even a cream. She wants the fabric to have a light shimmer to it and for it to be a bit above knee length but not quite a mini dress. It will be backless and trimmed with lace. There will be a flesh tone color under the lace so that there is no skin showing underneath.

Yay! :woot:
I think Burgundy would look incredible too.

I thought prom was ballgown (or at least floor lenght gown) type of affair?
Anyhow, the nicole miller dress is a pretty cute cocktail dress. The gold body hugging dress migh end up looking a bit costumey.

it used to be much more formal, it has been more of the norm to wear short. everyone wears something different these days! for me, short is more comfortable, i can wear amazing shoes, and it looks better on me because i'm tiny.

both dresses are fab... mine was short too, just stick to the one you feel most comfortable in, remember - it ought to be a wonderful night and you should have a good time :flower:

Couture.Retouch, fashionfille, please credit your images otherwise they will have to be removed. it's tFS policy.

My sisters prom dress..need help?!

Hey guys,

My sister has been around me too much, she wants a recreation of this 2008 Spring Versace Couture dress, worn by Eva Longoria Parker at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

We live in Philadelphia, HOWEVER she would need an NYC designer in my opinion....any tips for us????

^ We have shopping by city threads ... you might try there for some local help. You want a dressmaker ... too high up the food chain & they're going to start having copyright issues I would imagine. Well, maybe you can get Marc Jacobs interested in your plight
