What to wear to prom or homecoming

^ We have shopping by city threads ... you might try there for some local help. You want a dressmaker ... too high up the food chain & they're going to start having copyright issues I would imagine. Well, maybe you can get Marc Jacobs interested in your plight
:lol: I laughed so hard when she showed me this...atleast it wasn't a h&m dress straight off the rack!

I wore this dress a long time ago in 2005 for my prom, but fall back in love with it everytime I take it out of the closet

Hey guys,

My sister has been around me too much, she wants a recreation of this 2008 Spring Versace Couture dress, worn by Eva Longoria Parker at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
That dress could look REALLY tacky if not done right.

it's time for me to start thinking seriously about all of this: how much does it usually cost to get a dress custom-designed? from who?

I like the first one better only because it could be worn again on multiple occasions-it doesn't scream "prom" to me. You could wear it to weddings, to special events, and it's very current because it's got the floral print and it's full-length.

this is the dress i got for prom
its from bloomingdales and by aqua..
i'm worried about looking washed out now though. im pretty pale.
so i should probably go get a fake tan

OMG, I wanted to get that dress but they only have it in a size 10 online! D:

I had my prom two years ago and I was in loovvee with my dress. Vintage from the 1950´s, gold, shimmery, classic 50´s style. I got it from vintageous.com. The quality was aammaaziing as all the clothes were back then and the price wasn't bad too, under $400.00. Best of all was that it was pretty much guarenteed that nobody would have a dress like mine, unlike some of my poor friends who way overpaid for Jessica McClintock dresses that every other girl was wearing, in various colors too at that. Sorry not to offend anybody who likes Jessica McClintock, but I have someothing against the "department store" prom dress look, if you get what I mean - too shiny, gaudy, un-unique in my opinion. Alas, I only wish I still had a excuse to buy gorgeou dresses again (unfortunately, there are few opportunities in college...)

I would go short....cocktail type of dress. That way after prom, you are not left with a long shiny...fake rhinestone....department store dress. You can wear your dress again, if its short. Im all for being different, so when everyone has those tacky long dresses in these horrendous colors, you can wear something short....Accesories are key though...make them extra special.!

^ i totally agree. i really don't like the department store dresses either. it's so typical. everything looks the same. around here we have something called WINDSOR. mostly every girl at my school gets her dress there.

Oh Gaultier_Bandit, you are so right, how can I forget about the fake rhinestones, some dresses I've seen make me feel like someone just took a bedazzler and went nuts with it . I agree that if you want a relatively more "practical" dress, then go with cocktail length as you'll be able to wear it for other occassions. However, if you have the right body (read: gorgeous, slim legs) I also like the idea of a A-line dress that hits mid-calf with vintage style heels (I guess I'm really big on vintage hrmm...). Plus, floor-length gowns seem like they would be just such a pain, because you will be on your feet all night - tripping on your dress while dancing, people stepping on your dress, the bottom of your dress sweeping over all the spilled punch and food crumbs

And if I may add, if you want a really, really practical dress, I think J.Crew has simple yet rather well-designed dresses that are both rather cheap and work for a lot of occasions - they might not be the most unique but I would take simple over fake rhinestone bedazzling anyday. Just my two cents :D

If had had a prom to go to, I would probably done the complete opposite of what seems to be the main consensus here (i.e. tasteful, can wear it again, etc). When else does one have the opportunity to dress up in a giant tulle pouf skirt, in pink? :D

You should have absolutely no trouble doing better than that, then :innocent::ninja:
